Welcome all to Civilization Fanatics' Center's Civilization 5 War Academy! This subforum is designed as a repository of strategy articles that members and guests can view to assist them in their Civ5 experience. We aim to provide comprehensive coverage of Civ5's gameplay features and mechanics, allowing for accessible strategic information for players of all levels.
Each article in the War Academy is presented as a thread, that you can feel free to comment on or ask questions in. If you're wanting to discuss a particular concept in detail, or ask more questions on Civ5 strategy, feel free to post in the parent forum, Civ5 - Strategy & Tips (http://forums.civfanatics.com/forumdisplay.php?f=391).
The War Academy is in continuing development, and we hope to progressively add more and more content. If you would like to write an article, please feel free to join the 'Civ5 War Academy Contributors Group (http://forums.civfanatics.com/profile.php?do=editusergroups)' (select the appropriate option from the link). Once you are approved, you will be able to access the Civ5 War Academy Discussions subforum (http://forums.civfanatics.com/forumdisplay.php?f=434), which contains a list of the topics available to be written about and a template for writing articles. Once you've posted a draft and it's been edited with the help of the strategic minds of the forum, it'll be moved across to this subforum and become available to the public.
For ease of navigation of this subforum, please see the Article Index (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=438684), which contains a compiled list of all the available articles.
Please feel free to use this thread to ask any general questions you may have about the War Academy. And most of all, we hope you find the content here informative and helpful! :)

Ellye Sep 20, 2011, 12:01 PM My slow afternoon just got a lot better. This is awesome, thank you!
firstconsul Sep 20, 2011, 08:28 PM Im eager to peruse the new database. A great addition to the civ database.
boehj Sep 21, 2011, 12:53 AM Excellent. After about an 8 month break, I'm ready for a bit of Civ V and I know the game has changed a lot since the early days.
Thanks to all involved. I look forward to reading the guides.
vulturesrow Sep 21, 2011, 09:58 AM I just want to thank everyone who worked on this project. As a new player this absolutely invaluable information. I cant praise it highly enough. Id love to see a couple articles on "standard" opener with a detailed explanation of the idea behind it, why you take certain steps, etc. This is touched on in many of the articles but I think an article or two dedicated to that would be fantastic. Again, thank you all for your hard work and giving up your game play time to help us all out. :)
Im not a Civ 5 expert but I am a very good editor and have the "newb" perspective to so I'd be willing to help edit, proofread, etc if that is something you are looking for.
CivCube Sep 21, 2011, 11:55 AM Agreed. Kudos too on the excellent formatting and illustration. That makes these articles really fun to read.
elister Sep 22, 2011, 01:03 PM This is awesome guys!! :goodjob:
Now let's see if I can win a non-Time-Victory for a change! :)
Schalke 04 Sep 23, 2011, 03:34 PM yeah, I have to agree!
Great work and thank you very much for that!
How about feedback/questions/ctiticism/proposals? Is it OK to post it into the threads?
Camikaze Sep 23, 2011, 06:47 PM Thanks. :)
How about feedback/questions/ctiticism/proposals? Is it OK to post it into the threads?
If you have questions about the article or general comments, feel free to post them in the article thread. If you'd like to discuss something in more depth, then it's better to create a thread in the Strategy & Tips forum. If you'd like to make proposals for changes, then you're very welcome to join the 'Contributors' group (linked in the OP here and in my signature). In the contributors forum, we have a thread dedicated to each of the articles where you can suggest a revision; once a consensus is reached, changes are applied.
headcase Oct 14, 2011, 10:53 AM Thanks to MadDjinn, Bibor, Vexing, Veneke and everyone else who has made a thread here. The standard of quality is impressive; lots of text but usually succinct, and lots of pictures to go along with it.
Camikaze Oct 23, 2011, 07:27 PM The Civilization Guide: India (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=436730) article has been added, with the writing led by BjoernLars. :)
Mesix Oct 24, 2011, 07:35 PM It would be nice if there was a sticky topic in the War Academy where us plebs could ask for articles from the masters of CiV. I for one would like to see an article which discusses the benefits/drawbacks of keeping/razing/puppeting a city when conquering.
Camikaze Oct 25, 2011, 06:58 AM A Civ5 Acronyms and Terms (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=442106) article has been added. Feel free to suggest new ones that have been missed. :)
chrin67 Oct 25, 2011, 03:15 PM Bonsoir,
I wrote a general post about the ZOC here:
http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=444266
The forum reactions seem to be positive, so you may add it (after reviewing) to your War Academy, if you're interested in.
MadDjinn Oct 27, 2011, 01:21 PM Bonsoir,

It would be best if you join the war academy contributors group, then repost the article (in War Academy format) in the discussion sub-forum. This will allow for collective editing and suggested changes followed by a proper management of the content.
Camikaze Nov 11, 2011, 06:03 AM An article on Research Agreements (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=445643) has been added. :)
Camikaze Nov 20, 2011, 04:37 AM A new article on understanding and using the Zone of Control (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=444783) has been added.
Carl5872 Dec 13, 2011, 11:03 AM I really like the War Academy!
I wonder if the powers that be could also track their updates. For example lets say that on 12/25/2011 someone celebrates Christmas by adding a Ghengis Khan article, there would be red lettering next to his name on the list of Civ Leaders saying:
Ghengis Khan added 12/25/2011
This way people who have read all of it can easily find the updates since they last read.
The same could be done for each older one.
For example lets say the same person celebrates New Year's Eve by listing his or her entirely new strategy for Darius, it would say:
Darius updated 12/31/2011
Camikaze Dec 27, 2011, 06:11 PM A guide for America (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=440247) has been added. :)
Morpheas Dec 28, 2011, 01:17 AM Love the America guide. I'd like to see some guides on victory types. Such as "Generic Cultural Victory Guide" highlighting a few points you should always do, such as getting certain wonders, or for a cultural-domination victory, leaving yourself open to choose between the two. :P. A diplomatic guide isn't really necessary, but science and domination guides would be nice. The domination guide highlighting different rushes, like the longsword rush/knight rush/etc
Camikaze Dec 28, 2011, 02:21 AM We're hoping to have a cultural victory guide out relatively soon. :)
The_J Jan 17, 2012, 02:48 PM Another article, Unit Movement in Civilization V (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=446879) by chrin67 and vexing, has been added :).
Laoch Mar 25, 2012, 04:45 PM What do all these guides tell you about exactly? I confused!
Bobby Digital Apr 15, 2012, 11:40 AM it might be helpful if each of the individual civilization guides contained a small section with information on that civilizations strategic flaws and how to exploit them.
myb7721 Apr 24, 2012, 11:05 AM I'd really like to see a comprehensive guide to diplomacy. And by that I don't just mean diplomatic victory. I'd like to see info on how to effect diplomatic relationships in both good and bad ways. For example when is a warmongering penalty incurred? That sort of thing...
Dulahey Jul 11, 2012, 01:42 PM Can we get some kind of system in place to mark which articles are G&K compatible? Perhaps simply using the G&K Icon on the posts that are new/updated would work.
Or another sub-thread under G&K forums specifically for G&K info only.
MaDaZi Jul 25, 2012, 01:59 PM I agree with Dulahey, G&K relevant articles would be incredibly helpful.
One on how faith and religion works is an obvious one.
A few on the new leaders.
and updating the old articles would be useful.
Slvynn Jul 26, 2012, 01:21 AM Hello, i am working to complete my detailed Iroquois guide which also includes guide to certain empire development approach which could be used or any builder game (esp egypt)
I've applied to War Academy Contributors Group
Guide can be found here, and its still WIP, i hope i'll finish it in few days:
http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=469985
Please accept me into WA Contributors and explain how to format the article, thank you. :)
Veneke Jul 26, 2012, 06:15 PM @ Bobby digital: That's a really good idea. Hopefully it can be incorporated into the G&K updates for the Civ guides.
@ myb7721: Madjinn did a guide on this way back when. It's outdated now but it'll be added to the list (not sure if it is already or what).
@ Dulahey: None of the articles are G&K ready yet but whatever is decided it should be easy to tell which are G&K and which are not.
@ MaDaZi: Updates are in progress. I believe the plan is to update everything first and then add new ones.
@ Slvynn: Welcome to the War Academy!
Lordleoz Sep 18, 2012, 08:33 AM Hi,
I've applied to War Academy Contributor's Group and I have just posted a civilization guide: Rome in Civ5 - Strategy & Tips Forum. (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=475783)
Please accept my request to join the WA Contributor's Group.
Thanks :)
The_J Sep 18, 2012, 08:41 AM Sorry, forgot to check the join requests for some time .
-> Accepted :).
weregamer Oct 09, 2012, 01:10 PM It's gotten awfully quiet in here. Not even a comment or question. Is everybody off playing XCOM or something?
Carl5872 Oct 09, 2012, 01:37 PM No point until someone updates the War Academy for G&K...
Sadly Im not good enough to contribute, otherwise I'd lend a hand.
JoanK Oct 09, 2012, 03:24 PM What's XCOM?
Also:No point until someone updates the War Academy for G&K...

Bandobras Took Oct 10, 2012, 08:54 AM Sadly Im not good enough to contribute, otherwise I'd lend a hand.
That didn't stop me. :)
Browd Oct 10, 2012, 09:04 AM What's XCOM?
New game from Firaxis/2K, just out this week.
Lordleoz Oct 10, 2012, 06:43 PM No point until someone updates the War Academy for G&K...
There are already some G&K articles drafted by contributors. The strange thing is none of them are allowed to be posted in WA.
JoanK Nov 26, 2012, 05:23 AM I know this has been asked many times, but when will the articles be updated, and why some G&K articles written in the general forum haven't been added?
The_J Nov 26, 2012, 05:59 AM It's planned, and there's work in progress, but we're missing manpower (womanpower sure too ^^). If somebody wants to help, then he/she is very welcome to join the war academy contributor's group and to help us get stuff done :).
The_J Dec 06, 2012, 03:26 PM The civilization guide for Rome (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=481289) has been added.
