View Full Version : Intro Movie Problems

When I load Civ III about half the time, when the intro movie begins its flickers about as far as the infogrames logo then stalls.

The other half of the time I manage to press return quickly enough for it to skip the movie and the game loads perfectly.

My computer is slow, and old, 4Gb 233 MHz, but plays quite happily once its loaded (minus sound and animations, on standard or less maps)

Is there any way to stop the movie loading and going straight to the menu screen? BTW I have to run Civ III with it installed at 'minimum requirements' due to space.

Please help.
Thanks. :-)

You can just delete the movie.
Saves 32 meg disk space as well. :)

It's at CivIII\Art\Movies\intro.bik

Thanks for the help, but...

The file doesnt appear on my computer, so I assume this is because I have only installed the "minimum requirements" which runs to 500 meg not 700 for the full install.

Is there nothing else I can do then?, cos every time I have tried to install and run the full version (700meg) of the game it never works!

Cheers :)

Umm, :undecide:

There is one thing you can try but it involves editing the Windows registry, which really, really shouldn't be attempted if you're not sure what you're doing.

If you click on the Start button, then Run from the start menu, type in regedit.exe and press OK. What you have to alter is at
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Infogrames Interactive\Civilization III\
and is the entry Min Install. Double click on that and change the (1) to a (0), then exit regedit and try Civ and see if that works. Don't forget to change it back afterwards if it doesn't work. Unfortunatly I haven't been able to test this as Civ3 is a full install on my comp, but it does work the other way round.

Remember, this is rather a long shot and might not work anyway - and changing the registry *can* cause serious problems if you're not careful.

If you'd rather not try that, try defragmenting your hard disk and then try the full install - you might find that helps. Also, if you have a CD cleaning disk using that might help too - unless you've had other intermittent read problems with your CD, in which case it might be time to think about a new CD player. :(

Good luck... :)
