I've just got a new pc (P3 800mhz) and installed the original ufo: enemy unknown onto it. The damn thing runs way too fast now! If i moved the mouse just slightly i jump to the other side of the map.
This is making the game unplayable, is there any way i can get it to slow down to a more reasonable level?
I'll probably get xcom: apocalypse eventually but is there anything i can do in the meantime? This game is too good to leave! :-/

Well.....make sure you check the in-game options so see if you can slow it down that way.

If not you can get slow down utilities like: Mo'slo @ http://www.hpaa.com/moslo/

That should get you started.

Thanks corn. Tried the evaluation version but I guess it doesnt work on processors above 700mhz as it crashed my system constantly. I've deleted it in a rage now

Now where did I put that old 486...

You might not want to get an early version of Xcom Apocalypse. Its Dos/Win95 and since it doesn't use directX for sound, the range of compatible sound cards is very limited. I found out about this the hard way the other day:mad:
If anyone else knows whether you can get a directX compatible version of Xcom Apocalypse I'd be grateful.

I have the original XCOM, though it may be an updated windows version, which corrects for speed...but when I have problems like this, i find this solution helpful:
Open several windows with QBasic. If you don't have a copy of QBasic, you can probably download it from all over the web. open a few dos windows, run qbasic in each, and then minimize the windows. Right-click the minimized button and change properties to "run in background." Your comp will slow down considerably! If it's not enough, open more qbasics!

Hehe, Well i've got no chance of playing the game now. The game just does not like windows xp :-/

Are there any games similar to this? And I really do mean similar, i've played other games thinking they might offer the same sort of strategy game but they're either too boring to get into or too arcadey to offer any depth.....

BTW, don't bother with x-com interceptor, it's awful, it's just dogfighting and base building. I'm still looking for x-com apocalypse but none of the shops have it...

Don't bother. X-Com Apocalypse sucks. It's too slow paced, and very repeditive. (still, if you can get it cheaply it's OK for a day or two ;) )
