View Full Version : New Fanatikan Football League
Veera Anlai Feb 11, 2003, 07:47 PM Schedule
Southern League: Kyoto Dragons vs. Pensacola Tens
February 22nd, 5 PM EST (Saturday)
Southern League: Huntington Monarchs vs. Penguin Emperors
February 23rd, 5 PM EST (Sunday)
Announcements
The league is *closed.* No more new teams will be accepted! I apologize for the inconvenience.
The league, for convenience, has been divided into two leagues, North and South. You can determine the league your team is in by looking at the team lists below. Each team will play three other teams within their league. At the end of this 'season,' the two winningest teams from each league will move on to the next round. During the next period, two more teams will be eliminated. The remaining two teams will compete against each other for the grandprize and the title of NFFL Champions.
To all team owners, note that winning a game in the first round of the season will net you 300 gold. This amount will increase during the second round of the season, and will heavily increase during the championships. More information on this will be available later!
The Hakodate Diamonds are an NPC team created to fill out the league. They will play games, but if they win, they will not receive any reward money.
Scoresheets
Valhalla Spirits vs. Bavaria Bakers | 31-29
Dacula Waterfall vs. Strider's Haven Tigers | 21-17
Gunningheim Gunners vs. Naerva Imperials | 20-7
Old News
This is the new Fanatikan Football Association, created
Naervod’s original idea generated large amounts of interest, but due to time constraints, he was unable to continue the league. Naervod will be a co-manager for this new league and will help me run some aspects of it. died before it left the ground. This new Football league will be similar to the original idea, but will have many added benefits, including the following:
Live Broadcast Games
Rewards for Winning Teams
Expanded Team Creation System
Legal Sports Gambling (Sponsored by Gold Bluff Casino)
That’s right, these games will be broadcast live at #goldbluffcasino! This is possible due to a program written in Microsoft Excel that automatically determines whether a team runs, kicks, or passes and determines how many yards are gained and lost. It even takes into account a team’s Offense/Defense/Special scores as well as random factors. These games will be done twice weekly, most likely one on Wednesday and one on Saturday.
In addition, I have spoken with FortyJ, the owner of the reputable Gold Bluff Casino and any citizen of the RPG (besides the announcer, obviously) will be allowed to bet money on the outcomes of these games.
Now here is the important part... Creating a team requires a fee of 500 gold, not counting extras. This fee will mostly go into a general pot for distribution of rewards and to cover league costs. This investiture comes with a money-back guarantee, so if the league folds, all team owners will receive their fee back.
The following is the information needed to create a team
Team Name:
Home City:
Team Colors:
You have 18 points to distribute into the following categories
Offense:
Defense:
Special Teams:
Offense affects passing, rushing, and helps your team to score overall. Defense helps to intercept passes, block passes, and helps to keep the other team from scoring overall. Special Teams increases the likelihood of making Extra Points and Field Goals, as well as increasing your kicking distance.
Your team will not do well if they have no Special Teams Points! With no points placed in Special Teams, it will be impossible for a team to kick a field goal at a distance greater than 30 yards.
In addition, your team gets to choose two special abilities. These are explained below.
Kicking: Provides a +2 Bonus to Special Teams when kicking
Receiving: Increases team's returning distance when receiving a kick
Passing: +2 bonus to Offense when passing
Running: +1 bonus to Offense when running
Intercepting: +2 bonus to Defense when blocking passes, increased chance of interception
Blocking: +1 bonus to Defense at all times (Except when blocking a pass)
Sportsmanship: 50% fewer penalties
If you wish to provide a boost for your team, you can invest extra gold into training. Although buying a couple extra points is pretty cheap, the price increases exponentially... Buying one extra point to put into Offense, Defense, or Special Teams costs only 25 gold, but further points begin to cost more, as per the chart below:1st point - 25 g
2nd point - 50 g
3rd point - 100 g
4th point - 200 g
5th point - 400 g
6th point - 800 g
7th point+ - 1000 g eachYou can buy *one* extra feat for 150 gold.
All these extra points will carry over to the next season, but you can redistribute them anyway you choose. This reflects trading and the appreciation of value in trained players. You may buy these extra points or ability at any time during the season as you deem necessary.
Teams must be signed up by 12 AM this Saturday! Teams that register late will have to pay a 50 gold late fee. That’s it for now, and good luck to all players!

The Huntington Monarchs once played as the Bohemia Monarchs in the failed original Fanatikan Football League. The team owner, Margrave Shaitan Snow, was thrilled to get the chance to revitalize the team under the auspices of a new league. He moved them to Huntington, Rhineland, where the favorable climate allows them the freedom to practice almost year round and the more relaxed and easier lifestyle of the local populace helps to fill the colloseum seats. (Rumors of large kickbacks from the corrupt local officials are completely unfounded.)
The team carries with it a strong tradition of defensive football and is modeled after the adage "Offense wins fans, defense wins championships". Margrave Snow has invested a considerable amount of his own funds into strengthening the team in this mold. The Monarchs are also known as very mature and sporting players. This also came at a cost as councilors and coaches worked hard to remove their previous "bad boy" image and mentality.

Entirely my fault for forgetting to say that. My apologies!

The Kyoto Dragons were once known as the Plexenburg Red Hawks and were on of the original four teams of the failed Fanatikan Football League. Cultural Minister Plexus, was dissapointed when he first heard that the original FFL closed after lack of interest and organization. But he jumped at the chance to get back into the organized sports game. Ancient Kyoto was chosen as the new location of the Dragons do to Plexus' large holdings in the area and that the metropolis was large enough to support a successful football team.
The Dragons follow the ideals of the dragon: fast, strong and a fiery temper. And it's superior offence shows it. The Duke of Zimt put a large amount of his fortune into the new team and expects great things from it.

Veera Anlai Feb 14, 2003, 08:35 PM SaaM, you paid for the extra feat, but didn't specify which one you wanted.
Also, CG, your Imperials have the same hometown as Shaitan's Monarchs. Are you sure you want to have them in the same city? I can imagine the confusion already ;-)
Please have your teams posted by 5 PM EST tomorrow!

Extra Abilities:

Sportsmanship
Blocking (+150g)
Bio:
This is the same team that was a member of the original FFA. Mayor Octavian felt it approitiate to sponser a team for the capital once again.
If this team has one weakness, it has to be it's rather inexplicable obsession with doughnuts...
Logo: We're sorry, but the team can not afford to have a logo made at this time. The team spent too much money supplying players with doughnuts...
BTW: Veera, past the deadline, can I still get pay for more training?
Veera Anlai Feb 14, 2003, 09:07 PM Yes, a team can buy training at any time during the season. Thanks for your application Octavian, and thanks for correcting your team CG :-)

4 to Special Teams
3 to Defense

Plus "Sportsmanship" for 150g
Total Cost (500 + 1575 + 150) = 2225g
Veera Anlai Feb 14, 2003, 11:47 PM NEWS UPDATE: News updates are posted at the very top of this thread!
Padma, you did your math wrong I believe... You can buy only 6 points for 1575, not 8 points. You can either pay 1800 more gold for the extra two points, or choose to subtract two points from what you bought in your post. Sorry :/
McNulty Feb 15, 2003, 01:44 AM So our team plays the Bavaria Bakers for our first match?
We hear that the Bakers have a reputation for fairplay, much like our Spirits, this should be a good match...

Ok, I wish to add to sportsmanship and receiving. and 3 points to boost my defense to 8.
500g, + 50 + 800g +150g = 1500g. I think that's enough for a well rounded team.
Let me think about adding points. ;)
EDIT: Ah, I'll buy 1 extra feat for 150g - Intercepting, and 2 more points.
Final tally:
Offense: 5
Defense: 11
Special Teams: 8
(this is looking like the championship Baltimore Ravens. ;))

Please note that any teams who wish to join now must pay a 50G late fee. Other than that, more teams are welcome! It'd be nice to have more leagues representing our Aztec/Japanese heritage...

McNulty Feb 16, 2003, 04:00 AM What an exciting match! we got in late but soon got into it. Octavian's Bakers played a great match. Despite it being a home game for the Bakers, the crowd really got behind our team. I must say, both teams were evenly matched. The scores stayed quite level throughout. I was sorry for the unfortunate injury sustained by one of the Baker players, I hope he is alright now.
The final quarter was so nerve racking for us. Our team was exhausted, and the Bakers took full advantage of this. But in the end, we held on to our lead and won the day 31-29! A marvellous victory for the Spirits and they'll be celebrating in the streets of Valhalla tonight!

jdd2007 Feb 16, 2003, 10:12 AM The Waterfall is ready to take on the Tigers! The players have been preparing for this day for a long time. Although I cant make the game personally, all of Dacula will be rooting for them.
Veera Anlai Feb 16, 2003, 01:19 PM Perhaps there was supernatural intervention at yesterday’s game, but whatever may have happened, the Valhalla Spirits will be glad to take it. In a last second attempt by the Bakers to turn the game into a win, the Spirits managed to form a brick wall defense, preventing the Bavarian team from making the two-point conversion and securing victory for the Spirits. The final score was 31-29.
The game didn’t begin well for the Spirits who fumbled the ball in the first few minutes of the game, losing possession. Less than two players down, the Bakers totally demolished the Spirits defense to run a 53-yard touchdown. They missed the extra point. But the Bakers lead was short lived. After a pair of thirty-yard runs, the Spirits pulled off a touchdown of their own, bringing the score to 7-6. With one more possession in the quarter, the Bakers attempt a pass that is impressively intercepted by the Spirit defense. Please remember that in Fanatikan Football, each team receives a set number of possessions (In this case, two) per quarter rather than playing by a clock. The interception ended the quarter with a score of 7-6.
At the beginning of the second quarter, the Spirits didn’t waste any time taking advantage of their previous interception. Within two plays, a catch at the very edge of the boundaries leads to a touch down as the receiver shimmies down the foul line and into the endzone. Although the Baker coach and the home team crowd loudly proclaimed that the receiver stepped outside the foul line, the referees ruled in favor of the Spirits and the touchdown was declared good. The Bakers attempt to make an answering touchdown, but only succeed in moving the ball to the 27 yard line before they are forced to settle for a field goal. This moves the score to 14-9, in favor of the Spirits.
Once again, the Spirit’s impressive passing game allows them to break free of the Baker’s defense and make a run for the endzone. 83 yards later, the Spirits earn themselves a touchdown: a penalty was declared on the play against the Bakers, which the Spirits waived. 21-9, Spirits. During the Baker’s possession, they move the ball to the 18-yard line, but another offsides penalty costs the Bakers five yards. At this point, things get nasty. Number 72, a receiver for the Bakers, is taken down with a nasty tackle. One of their best players, #72 is forced out of the game with a kneecap injury, crippling the Baker offense. Despite the injury, the Bakers manage to run the few remaining yards to earn a touchdown. Taking a bold risk, the Bakers attempt and succeed running a 2-point conversion. The score is now 21-17, still in favor of the Spirits at halftime.
In the third quarter, both teams go half the quarter without scoring. A foolish pass on the part of the Bakers leads to another interception a mere 10 yards before a touchdown, and the Spirits turn the interception into a field goal a few minutes later, bringing the score to 24-17. In retaliation, the Bakers perform a long, drawn out series of short passes and short runs that eventually earn them a touchdown. They miss the extra point, tying the game at 24-23.
At the beginning of the fourth and final quarter, the Spirits grabbed a touchdown, bringing the score to 31-23. This left one possession in the game for the Bakers, and if they wanted to bring the game into overtime, they would have to earn 8 points: a touchdown and a 2-point conversion. Valiantly, they managed to earn a touchdown, bringing the score to 31-29. Unfortunately for the Bakers, the Spirits weren’t ready to relinquish their win, and the 2-point conversion failed. In a nail biting finale, the Spirits managed to hold strong and end the Bakers desperate two-point attempt, ensuring a Valhalla victory on the gridiron. Congratulations!

Chieftess, you paid 25 G too much for your points. I'll fix that when I do your total.
CivGeneral Feb 20, 2003, 12:06 AM I wish to add the "Sportsmanship" Abbility and 2 points added to the Offense score.

CG, you already have three abilities, you cannot buy any more. Your 2 offense points have been processed though.

Fionn, Donovan Zoi, I need your updated teams soon. I'll be unable to play your teams until then.
Veera Anlai Feb 22, 2003, 06:42 PM Something went wrong with our chat server, irc.webmaster.com, in the middle of the game. For the record... Chieftess Feb 22, 2003, 07:00 PM There seems to be a netsplit in there. Last time this happened, the netsplit lasted on and off for hours. Luckily, CG and I know the secrets of Netsplit Navigation. CivGeneral Feb 22, 2003, 07:01 PM Netsplit Report
The recent netplit has left Chieftess and I alone in the rooms. We both tried unsucsessfuly to reach to the other side of the split.
With the recent netsplits. I suggest that everyone uses the same server ie glass.webchat.org.
Chieftess Feb 22, 2003, 07:07 PM To get to a server, type /server <server name>. For example:
/server nexus.webchat.org.
All servers have the .webchat.org domain.
Chieftess Feb 22, 2003, 08:02 PM Right now, arena.webchat.org seems to be stable. All others are either down, or slowly connecting.
Veera Anlai Feb 23, 2003, 07:34 PM And the game between the Pensacola Tens and the Kyoto Dragons has finished! The two closely matched teams had a very close game, but in the end, the well-balanced Pensacola Tens managed to eke out a victory against the dragons. The final score of the game was 20-23. Congratulations to Padma and his team!
Plexus Feb 23, 2003, 08:09 PM Hmmm... well, congrats Padma!
FionnMcCumhall Feb 25, 2003, 02:17 AM for now keep my team without the special points
Stuck_as_a_Mac Feb 25, 2003, 04:59 PM for 150g, id like to add interception to the Penguins, as well as raising each skill up to 11. (special as 4, not 11 :P)
Just bill me for however much it is.
Stuck_as_a_Mac Feb 26, 2003, 05:19 PM Bill me!
Veera Anlai Feb 26, 2003, 05:52 PM I apologize guys, but serious family problems have cropped up... I may have the league games back up and running this weekend: if not, I'll either continue them next week or give you an update.
McNulty Feb 26, 2003, 06:11 PM Hey, no need to apologise. Take as long as you need.
Plexus Feb 26, 2003, 08:54 PM Yea, NP, Veera. Just tell us if you're leaving for good. :)
Plexus Mar 11, 2003, 07:44 PM So, can I have my money back if this is over?
Shaitan Mar 12, 2003, 02:50 PM Perhaps a hostile takeover is in order. I'm trying to work up a VB program using the stat and ability setups for the league.
Plexus Mar 12, 2003, 05:29 PM Yes... a take over... of course...

Still..
Veera Anlai Mar 12, 2003, 07:05 PM Eesh... Things have been pretty hectic around RL lately. I'm willing to continue the league, but I would *love* to get someone to aide me in the games...
As for now, I'll try and do 'catch up' this weekend: I'm about eight games behind, so I'll just set my program on fast forward and rush through them without announcing... Hopefully, that can get the league caught up and have some much needed rewards paid out.
gunning1 Mar 12, 2003, 07:16 PM VEERA! ;)
BTW, I'd love to help with the games!! That would be awesome!!
Too bad with RL though...Hope things get worked out! :D
CivGeneral Mar 14, 2003, 06:36 PM Veera,
I would also like to help with the games :).
Chieftess Mar 14, 2003, 06:38 PM I'd like to help too! :D
CivGeneral Mar 14, 2003, 06:47 PM @CT & Gunning - I have just gotten an Idea. How about the three of us work together :). A team of Three would be better and we would make the game run more smoothly
Chieftess Mar 14, 2003, 06:56 PM We could split the games in 3rds. Each of us would take 1/3 of the games.
gunning1 Mar 16, 2003, 12:57 PM That would be a good idea! But first, we would have to find out how do do them. ;)
jdd2007 Apr 07, 2003, 04:06 PM whatever happened to the league?
Plexus Apr 08, 2003, 12:58 AM Well, Veera hasn't posted since March 14th.
