View Full Version : Almost finished (not yet playable version) of a Soccer Scenario.
Grey Fox Feb 11, 2003, 08:23 PM Yup, you heard right a Soccer Scenario.
I'm gonna post what I got here right now, if anyone wanna help me with it, feel free to do so.
It basically works with capture the Princess, where the ball is the Flag unit, and it is Immobile in the Centre of the Map.
The field is currently painted with the original Grassland tiles, and around that there is desert tile, which is Impassable in this scenario.
The Goals are a town each, and there are 4 different types of Units. 5 with the ball.
- The Goalkeeper. (These should not be able to be built, very good defenders. There to keep the city/goal from being taken.)
- The Defenders. Good Defense (12 at the moment), poor attack (4 at the moment) and only 3 Hp.
- The Midfielders. Average Defense, (8) Average Attack (8) and 4 HP. And these are the only units that can carry the ball at the moment.
- The Forwards, Good Attack (12), bad Defense (4), 2 movement. Only 3Hp.
(I did 2 unit graphics too, a Ball and a Soccer Player, both without animations)
Well... My problem is that I can't get the Ball to work like a real Princess (flag unit). It should be able to be turned into a Point when you take it to your city if I'm not wrong, and thats where it doesn't work here...
And remember, this scenario won't be fun playing against the AI. They won't understand what to do at all...
Hope you can help.
Sir John Feb 12, 2003, 06:43 AM great idea... (I came up with it for a long time ago ;) )
I think the midfielders should have 2 in movement, not the attackers since they are the ones who are moving around the most.. other then that its good balancing...
I dont get the ball problem...
They must only be able to build one city (no settlers) but what about workers??
And what about names of the teams??
BTW: do you have time to work on this when you are working the halo mod?? hows the work going?? I cant do much more with bix file without some units...
thestonesfan Feb 12, 2003, 06:56 AM Someone needs to make the "rioting fan" unit.

I dont get the ball problem... Well, maybe I havn't tested it enough. But in a Capture the Princess game, which that is, you need to take the "Princess" (the Ball) to your city, and then there should be a button you can press or something to get the point from the Princess I think... gotta try some capture the princess games first to see how it should be.
They must only be able to build one city (no settlers) but what about workers??You mean the ability to build settlers and workers in the city? Yeah... I know, I tried to remove them, but I can't... IN the editor they arn't even buildable by any of the Teams... and the Starting units are a GoalKeeper and a Defender...
I don't get why they can even build those units, according to the editor they shouldn't be able to...
And what about names of the teams?? Well, this Scenario isn't finished yet. I only made it for Fun last night, took me only some hours.
[B]BTW: do you have time to work on this when you are working the halo mod?? hows the work going?? I cant do much more with bix file without some units... I'm not working on this scenario at all. Only did it because I wanted to see if it could be done.
And I havn't really progressed on the Unit front. I've been doing many things lately, like school work. But I have done a Title Screen, which isn't finished yet (Don't know how to move the menu, and if it can't be moved I need to change the title screen I made...)
Sir John Feb 12, 2003, 07:03 AM Yeah, a Hooligan can be the basic barbarian unit, and the judge could be the other barbarian unit =D
Sir John Feb 12, 2003, 07:09 AM All the teams could start with 11 units and and each team used different "formations"...
Another thing: more then 2 teams on the field would look strange... This scenario would be perfect in a direct connect game.. (one against one over the internet)

As the Ai couldn't handle it. And how in the world do you play with more then 2 teams?! :p (and All units that are on the to start with need to placed manually so, if you want different formations you need to place those yourself.)

Yes a barbarian unit. Make 'im an artillery unit as well and restrict their movement to the desert tile surrounding the soccer pitch. That way they can lob stuff onto the pitch like sharpened coins etc. at the player units.
"judge"
they're called referees in soccer (proper football that is).
:D
Sir John Feb 12, 2003, 07:23 AM With formations I meant how many units of each "class" (defender, midfielder etc.) not where they were standing on the map...
BTW: wich terrain types are you going to use??

The JAMIO unit makes a mighty fine Hooligan unit. I've added him into a personal mod, making him require BEER to build
Sa~Craig Feb 12, 2003, 11:23 AM this is cool i like the map its very interesting
Spud Boy Mar 07, 2003, 10:32 AM This appears to be for PTW. Would it be possible for someone to make a version for regular Civ3?
Sa~Craig Mar 07, 2003, 10:53 AM it can't be made for normal civIII cause it requires capture the princess mode to work
Procifica Mar 07, 2003, 09:06 PM Wow...I must say this is a very original idea. I'd contribute more but being from the USA, I don't know much about soccer.
Sa~Craig Mar 08, 2003, 05:30 AM actually this idea came up after someone i think it was Sneus wanted to make an American Football mod and other ideas for sports mod came up.
Spud Boy Apr 09, 2003, 06:32 PM I finally got Play the World and just downloaded this mod. I can't wait to play it! :)
stormbind Apr 10, 2003, 06:48 PM Does this mean there will be new Bloodbowl and Dungeonbowl units/terraforms? :)
I don't have PTW but I'de be tempted to get if I a mod unlocked that kind of game :)
