View Full Version : Mapstat
Txurce Feb 13, 2003, 01:28 PM Have any Mac players managed to download and implement Mapstat? This is chiefpaco's PC utility that tells you how close you are to a domination victory. It was supposed to work for the Mac, but unsurprisingly, I was never able to do so.
dojoboy Feb 13, 2003, 01:30 PM I've downloaded it in the past, but never could get it opened.
dojoboy Feb 13, 2003, 10:08 PM Maybe senecasax, or someone, can check this out and write one for mac.

DiamondzAndGunz Feb 13, 2003, 10:11 PM I have successfullly got it to not work for me. It opens up, blah blah, but it never gives me stats or anythin.
If I had knowledge of programming, I would gladly do it. But I have little/no knowledge of programming, so hopefully senecasax (or someone else) can help us out here.
Txurce Feb 14, 2003, 01:16 AM Senecasax, maybe you could help out here when you're done volunteering to help Cracker with his tech-rate request! Should we make a priority list of everything we'd like you to do for us?

Can we send you some donuts or something? Coffee?
dojoboy Feb 14, 2003, 06:07 AM senecasax, the mac forum shaman. ;)
senecasax Feb 14, 2003, 07:44 AM :worshp: Oooga :worshp: booga :worshp: booga. Like magic, its Mapstat!
But anyways, I've downloaded the java source for the 1.17 patch, but am having trouble getting it to build... the jar he provides works fine, except for that small little detail of actually reading in the new SAV files. I'll see what I can come up with, perhaps a Cocoa App written in Java (using mostly the same code) would be best... I'm not much of a java programmer, (C++ and obj-C are my languages), but I'll see what I can do - no promises, I do have 18 credit hours / 6 classes :grad: to attend and do work in as well...
Txurce Feb 14, 2003, 09:11 AM Senecasax, would it help if we played your Civ3 games for you during this period?
tao Mar 23, 2003, 03:52 AM With Java 1.4.1 installed on MacOS X 10.2.4, MapStat.jar starts and reads .sav files. :)
But the results are utterly wrong. :(
tao Apr 09, 2003, 03:12 AM chiefpaco pmed me a not yet released version and it worked with MacOS X 10.2.4 and Java 1.4.1.
He has now released Java Mapstat v2.0 (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?s=&postid=902678#post902678) and we can use it also. :goodjob:
Txurce Apr 09, 2003, 09:57 AM Too late for GOTM18, Tao!
I'd love to try it, though - how did you download, install, and use?

Download: follow the link in my post above.
Install: just unzip.
Use: doubleclick MapStat.jar, use Action menu items.
I have Java 1.4.1 on MacOS X 10.2.4; can't say anything about other configurations.
Txurce Apr 09, 2003, 01:03 PM Pretty easy! Thanks, Tao. Do you know the ratio for tiles/sq. miles? It doesn't matter much, since "tiles to limit" is the key number, and easy to monitor, but I was curious.

There is an excellent article on the demographics by Bamspeedy in the War Academy.
Txurce Apr 09, 2003, 04:58 PM Bamspeedy's a good resource, isn't he? I'll look it up. Thanks again.
