I feel like such a n00b asking this, but how do I use the units/leaderheads etc. that I downloaded from the Civ IV downloads section? Nothing seems to work. Any advice would be much appreciated.:dunno:

I think we need a short clearification here:
The units and leaderheads which you downloaded are not ready to be used. They are "just" art, but no infos for the game how to use them. They are intented for modders to add them to their mods, they are not ready for the end user. If you want to use them, you'd have to add them yourself to the game. That's why Dumanios linked you to the tutorials subforum, because there's most of the info you need to do that.
But i guess that's not what you want ;). I guess you want something to play. Then you should check the modpacks or civilizations subforum (or the respective categories in the download section). The stuff there is ready for use and meant to be played, without much more actions need than installing/dropping the stuff in the right folder.

Thanks for clearing that up, but how exactly do i add the units and leaderheads to a mod that i'm making? i've never made a mod before (in any game), but i have these ideas that i want to test out. would i need to download python, XML etc. to make one?

On second thoughts, scratch that. i think i'll stick to just playing civ for now.
