HELP!

I installed the Fascism patch yesterday, and everything seemed ok. Then I installed the "ww2 mod" and it started glitching. So, I uninstalled Civ 3, and the Civ3 patch, and Play the World. The snag happened when I tried to re-install Civ 3.

The problem was, Civ 3 was still listed on the "add/remove" list, and the computer thought it was still installed. After research, I found out it was a registry problem. So, I went into the registry, searched for "civ", and deleted the remaining civ 3 references. Then I put in the disk, and it said "install Civ 3" as it should ... however, when I clicked that, it still said "do you want to remove the remaining components?", and when I click the only option of "OK", it acts like it is "uninstalling" the main Civ 3 exe file, goes up to 1%, says it is "done", and then when you go into the Windows directory, it has put that 2+ MB Civ 3 exe file there. After that, you dont even get the small opening screen when you insert the disk, it just says "do you want to remove the remaining components", once again as if the game is installed, and goes through the whole silly routine again. I have re-checked the registry, and it appears to be clean. All other game-related files are gone (Ive searched and researched the computer for them).

So, are there any other (maybe oddly named) files lurking on the computer I need to get rid of? Is this common when re-installing the game (and have the fascism and other patches/mods caused problems like this before)? Should I just go ahead and use both discs for Frisbees and give up?

Id rather get back to Civ 3 than give it up, so HELP!!! :crazyeye:

I had the same problem. It is easy to fix:
1) Format C: ...
or a little nicer
2) I installed Civ3 to my Dads computer and then burned it to the cd, then I copied the files to my computer and it ran fine.

I hope that it helps you:)

And welcome to Civfanatics

Try registry-cleaning software. There is surely some stuff in your registry that you didn't find manually.
I had similar problem in past with another game, and it helped. Unfortunatly I don't remember name of that program I used, but try to look from Tucows (http://www.tucows.fi).

Edit: And ah, here (http://www.tucows.fi/system/preview/239099.html) it is (I think that is the same).

Make sure to remove it from the add/remove list too under the control panel.

Regcleanr works quite well for this purpose.

Even after it uninstalls, you should still be able to install Civ3 like normal.

Chieftess, there's an error in the uninstall program of vanilla CIV3. It doesn't remove the program entirely.

Here (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=34533&pagenumber=2) is alink to a similar thread in which it was solved.

Bottom line: XP Pro gives problems. Infogrames can help if my tip in the thread can't...
