Security Levels of the MSDG
Code Green - Low: This condition is declared when there is a low risk of a Spy or Hacker Attack.

Code: Blue - Guarded: This condition is declared when there is a general risk of a Spy or Hacker Attack.

Code: Yellow - Moderate: This condition is declared when there is a significant risk of a Spy or Hacker Attack.

Code: Orange - High: This condition is declared when there is a High risk of a Spy or Hacker Attack.

Code: Red - Severe: A Severe Condition reflects a severe risk of a Spy or hacker attacks. Under most circumstances, the Protective Measures for a Severe Condition are not intended to be sustained for substantial periods of time.

How to join the chat?
With a java client
You can use a special java client (http://www.civfanatics.com/chat/chatroom.shtml) provided by civfanatics to connect to the chatroom. Be aware this client is only a workaround if you are not able to use a "real" chatclient like mirc. For example you will not be able to see multiple rooms at the same time.

With a "real" chat client
The best way to connect to the chatroom or to any other chat is to use a "real" irc chatclient, like MIRC (www.mirc.com) or Trillian (http://www.ceruleanstudios.com/).
* connecting to the server
This depends on the client you use. You will have to enter the servername "irc.irc-chat.net" into this field.
* joining a channel
This also depends on the client. Normally you use the commands "/j [channelname]" or "/join [channelname]" to do so.
In MIRC, you would have to use "/j #demogame" to join the demogame chat and "/j #civfanatics" to join the normal civfanatics chatroom.
It is advisable to join both rooms, as off-topic discussion which may also be related to the game will often be in #civfanatics.

Note: since this is a password protected room you need to do an extra step in order to join in the room.

You would have to type in "/join #demogame_CFC_MSDG <Password>

How to register your nick?
On chat systems, anyone can use your nick. To prevent others from using it or even imitating they were you, you can regsiter a nick with a password.
* how do i do this?
When you are at the chat with the nick you want to register, type into the command line "/nickserv register [password] ", where password is the password you want to set and email-address is a valid email address (you will be sent a confirmation mail which you have to comply to within 24 hours).

After you did this, you will have to enter "/nickserv identify [password]" every time in future you come to the chat.

Example:
email is "xxx@yyy.com" and password "zzz"
would be to register:
/nickserv register zzz [email]xxx@yyy.com
and for login to the chat:
/nickserv identify zzz

How to become a chat deputy?
* Get elected for president or vice president for a temporary access to the operator right for free
* Sign up for the V+ or the Half Op Level program, Contact me for details

1) be polite
disregarding of the publically vaild netiquette will result in bans.

2) listen to the operators
if an operator tells you something, listen to him. if he tells you to stop something, stop it.
our chatroom is moderated, so if an operator decides to devoice you, you will not be able to talk there any more. keep this in mind. successive violation will result in a permanent ban from the room.

3) no clones
the usage of clones (duplicate logins with different names) in order to influence polls or confuse others.
exceptions can be made but must be announced in the chat and autorized by the designated player

4) no spamming, advertising or disturbing
any disturbing action like spamming or advertising will be proscecuted.

5) comply to the rules of the demogame
all rules of the demogame are full in effect in the chatroom. the action to be taken on a violation of those rooms is up to the designated player.

6) Do not, and I repeat, Do not give out the Room's Password to any non-member that is not on the list Thunderfall has provided.

7) Since Croxis is keeping a log and posting stats on this room. I am enforcing a strict No spamming/abusing the IRC stat. here are the following concequenses if you do not follow the rule

1st offense: Will be kindly asked to stop
2nd offense: The room will be moderated and everyone but the offender will be voiced
3rd offense: Will be kicked
4th offense: Will be Kicked-Ban (The ban will last for 1 day)

1. Check the first post, it should be under "Current Password"

I've had this happen to me on occasion also. I think it happens as a result of something with chanserv or nickserv or one of those blasted irc servers. ;) My suggestion is to be patient and then try again in a few moments. It's worked for me in the past.

I believe we need to do something with respect to the security of our chat rooms. Lately, I've seen some unrecognized nicks popping in and out of these rooms.

I'd recommend changing the pass key. Also, I think we should, if not already done, make the rooms private (ie. not shown in the list of chat rooms on chanserv), and if there are any other new tricks we can employ to improve security (other than making the room invite only), I think we should carefully consider using them as well.

Do we have a schedule of turnchats?

Not at all. A TC is held whenever we get the save game, a time which can very greatly.

Due to an inadvertent revelation of our current pass key in an unsecure chat room, I've changed the pass key to C3P2D2.

@40J - Next time, can you let me know about the Password change Via PM so that I would not have to worry about seing an error message everytime I log in there.

CivGeneral, I find the recent appointement of bootstoots to aop in #MSDG very inappropriate. You are abusing your powers CG. If bootstoots participated then I might consider this to be more appropriate. That fact that he says this is a trade so that you could becoming an op in #debates makes it clear that this is nothing more of an attempt by you to become an op in all the places possible.

@Goonie - Umm, I am not abusing my powers. Please stop being parinoid, I am not trying to be an op everywhere. Trust me Goonie, I am not abusing my powers. Besides I am getting him to parisipate more. Plus I needed someone to handle the Chat room maintenance when I am eather at Work or at School. If it would make you happy, I would drop his application.

Plus, I was about to reop you in the rooms, but apperently you have not appeared in the rooms as often. Also Boots has reasured me that he is going to patisipate more in the MSDG. If there is any conflict, We can have a Co-Captian Meeting in the #MSDG_CFC room, so that we can make a compromise and hopefuly keep me as Co-captian. If you want to drop boots, Ill happly do so in exchange that I keep my Co-captian status.

If Bootstoots becomes a partcipating member, nothing would make me happier than to see him become an op. Let's see how he does ;).

I would like to apply as an op for the MSDG chat office. I believe that I am now involved enough in the MSDG to justify my being an op, especially my involvement in negotiations with CDG and Poly after CDG announced it was resigning, and in becoming Deputy Military Leader and Prosecutor. This is not in exchange for any op position for CG elsewhere, btw.

Here's a though. Should we give +h status to all our nation's diplomats in the Embassy room? That list would include the indivdual ambassadors, the FA Minister, VP, and Prez. It would be a nice way for foreigners to

That is a Halfop status. It means that the persion has standard op powers, but has less powers than a normal Op.

From December 17th till December 27th, I will assign Bootstoots in charge of the Chatrooms during my leave of absence due to Education reasons (Exam).

Just a note, do you suppose we could abolish the security level system? It isn't like there is much of a difference between the levels; overall they're rather useless. In an emergency, we can post that there has been a spy/hacker attack and place a notificiation of such activity in the topic.
