Athlon 1.2 gigglehertz
512 Ram
GeForce2 MX 200 w/ 41.09 Detonator
Civ3 1.29f
XP Pro, all the latest updates.

I was running civ fine until two days ago. My CD burner crashed and, well, burned, and Civ 3 used to play from that drive. I decided I want to reinstall it, so I could get the extra junk cleared up from my directory. I backed up my important saves, and my high scores, and removed it and reinstalled it.

Civ3 started, and I started a new game, just to make sure everything was ok. Did a quick start. My screen would not scroll beyond the bounds of the visible map. I could click on the mini-map in a dark area, and it went there ok. I could scroll all over the place, but when over the area I could see, I could not scroll away anymore. :(

I build my city, and made a worker to send north. As he traveled, my mouse could scroll the screen out further.

I patched to 1.29f, no dice.

I then reinstalled PTW, and patched it, and in PTW, I can scroll just fine. However, in Vanilla Civ3 I cannot!

Help!

And don't reply with "Just play PTW."

Just removed the installed Nvidia drivers and left myself with the default windows driver for my card. No luck.

I do not think this is the slow scroll problem reported in the past. If that were the case, then the scroll would work, just real slow. I can get the screen to scroll a little bit while over the viewable area, but not beyond it.

This is very frustrating, and I cannot find any reference of this specific problem, just the slow scroll problem with ancient Nvidia drivers.

Could I be getting a bad read off my Civ3 disk during the install?

Just posting to let you know you're not being ignored, Nightfang. Unfortunately, I have no idea what may be causing your problem.

Sounds like you have already done everything I can suggest.

(I was very tempted to say "Just play PTW!" )

I was just posting my progress. Being a network admin, I get used to documenting every step I take in a process. This way, if someone read it and had a suggestion, they would already know what I tried.

At any rate, I can still play, but it is just annoying to have my scrolling limited.

No problem, Nightfang. And if you can find a solution, we'll have this thread to point others to. :D
