View Full Version : The Wild Wild West: A Small Mafia Game
Verarde Jan 16, 2012, 12:31 PM The Wild Wild West: A Mafia Game
Night 0
It was dark…
no moon…
The desperadoes rode into town, their long hair flowing in the wind…that wasn’t blowing…
They had a plan…They enacted the plan…
*
The drunk stumbled by…he heard multiple shots ring out and scurried out of there as quick as his drunk legs would carry them…
*
The saloon keeper was up late, polishing his bottles. He had issues with that, something that his friend had called OCD, or sumpin' like that. As the shots rang out, he rolled his eyes. "They shoulda had a few drinks before shootin' up the town."
*
The mayor was awoken from his sleep for a short moment…then turned back over.
*
“Well blow my barrel!”
The sheriff looked aghast at the body of Townsman Verarde, in the middle of the street, riddled with bullets.
Verarde was totally, completely, no-bones-about-it innocent!
“Someone done gone and killed this man!”
The mayor appeared at his side. “Well, my good man, who do you think it was?”
“I’ve got no darned clue, Mr. Mayor. Coulda been anyone of these citizens!”
“Can you tell me whom some of them are, my good man?”
“Weeel, shure. There’s:

• If you are dead, you are no longer able to vote, or reveal any of your previous night actions, or claim anything you did while alive that isn't present in the thread. You may indicate who you believe is mafia/town/whatever, however. But unless you use their in-thread behavior as a reason, or give no reason, you are not allowed to explain why.

That was just me trying to think of a way to say "in". That really didn't translate well over the internet, did it?

Verarde Jan 17, 2012, 06:14 PM That was just me trying to think of a way to say "in". That really didn't translate well over the internet, did it?
No, no, it didn't. :p Thanks for clearing that up!

CivGeneral Jan 18, 2012, 03:09 PM To be in, or not to be in. I don't know...
...I'll give the mafia game another shot.
NinjaCow64 Jan 18, 2012, 03:18 PM Full signups. :w00t:
Verarde Jan 18, 2012, 04:19 PM Alright! Sign ups are full. Shall I start this up now, or soon/immediately after Paired ends? I think after Paired ends works better in case there is anyone willing to be a reserve.
Turquoiside Jan 18, 2012, 04:22 PM Paired Mafia has ended, as of an hour ago ;)
Verarde Jan 18, 2012, 04:32 PM D'OH! You're right, stupid me. Okay....I don't have time as of right now, and I should study for my chemistry midterm tonight....so if no one minds, how about a day or so of break between games as I finish up some necessary school stuff, and then I'll randomize the roles and get the PMs out, do other game-related stuff, etc.
choxorn Jan 18, 2012, 04:40 PM That's fine. We're used to week-long breaks between games, so 1 day is nothing.
Optical Jan 18, 2012, 05:35 PM That was fast for full signups (compared to other recent games), looks like there's a bit more life coming back to the subforum :D
Whether this is a good thing or not depends on whether or not you're mafia.
CivGeneral Jan 18, 2012, 06:24 PM Paired Mafia has ended, as of an hour ago ;)
That was.. ...quick!
johnhughthom Jan 19, 2012, 03:55 AM Put me down as a reserve.

Earthling Jan 19, 2012, 05:11 PM Saw in another thread you're looking for reserves, another couldn't hurt so I'd be happy to be one.
Verarde Jan 19, 2012, 06:03 PM Thanks Earthling! So, now that we have a full list and a couple reserves as well, I have a few questions:
1) Would everyone like a bit of a break, or shall I start the game this weekend?
2) Should I set up a game thread?
Optical Jan 19, 2012, 06:04 PM I say start, but it's up to you.
Zack Jan 19, 2012, 06:06 PM Start.
EDIT: And I always thought starting a separate game thread for small games was superfluous.
NinjaCow64 Jan 19, 2012, 08:30 PM If ya'll don't mind I'm a gonna speak in a Texas/Cowboy style accent. YEE-HA!
On a more serious note, I'm not going to have access to the computer from Thursday. I'd probably only miss out on at most two day phases. You can replace me over this, however I would like to stay on if you don't mind. I won't feel offended either way. :)
Verarde Jan 20, 2012, 09:17 AM I have nothing going on this afternoon, so I will randomize the roles and sent out Role PMs, with the intention of starting the game tonight.
Kennigit Jan 20, 2012, 11:30 AM Start.
EDIT: And I always thought starting a separate game thread for small games was superfluous.
It's good only if the OP doesn't reorganize for the start of the game. Considering verarde has the OP and second post to edit into it would be kind of superfluous.
Zack Jan 20, 2012, 03:12 PM If ya'll don't mind I'm a gonna speak in a stereotypical Texas/Cowboy style accent. YEE-HA!
Fixed.
Verarde Jan 20, 2012, 04:46 PM We've been having issues with some very intimidating people on the phone this afternoon regarding an event that we're hosting tomorrow, and I've been on the phone with lots of people all afternoon, so I have not had a chance to do anything at all. If I have time tonight, I'll randomize, send out, and start. If not, tomorrow night. But you'll see.

I also forgot that I had to do my webcomic tonight....so definitely not tonight...
we're not sure about the exact time of the event tomorrow, but I'll definitely be working on this game afterwards, so expect a hopeful Day 1 tomorrow evening!
Verarde Jan 21, 2012, 03:50 PM Roles randomized, PMs going out now!
Verarde Jan 21, 2012, 03:57 PM Not all PMs are out yet, but remember, feel free to ask me any questions you may have, either in thread or via PM if it is sensitive (which it likely will be).

Verarde Jan 21, 2012, 04:16 PM All PMs sent! Now setting up the Day 1 post...
Verarde Jan 21, 2012, 04:20 PM DAY 1
By now a crowd had gathered, hearing their animated conversation and the sheriff’s exclamatory remarks. A growing murmur began about the town drunkard, who was surprisingly half-sober. The crowd’s angst grew to a feverish pitch, with shouts of “Lynch him!” “He’s the murderer!” and “Arrest him, sheriff!” floating around, before the mayor called for order.
“Alright, alright. No need to be hasty. My good man, can you tell us what you were doing last night…besides the obvious?”
With words still slurred, the drunk replied “I durn’t do nothing! Here, you, whassyername, Sheriff, you know…you had me sleepin’ off last night’s whiskey in yer jail last night, right?”
The sheriff nodded. “He’s right. Had him in there from 8 till this mornin’. And that body wasn’t there at 8 last night, I can tell you.”
The mayor turned to the small crowd. “See, if we had been hasty, we would have had the wrong man. Now, here is what I propose. Everyone votes for whom they think is the murderer, and we’ll take it from there! How’s that sound? …Um…Sheriff?”
The sheriff turned. “Sumpin ain’t right here…Verarde wasn’t killed by one person…he was killed by a group! I can’t tell ya how many, but it definitely was more den one.”
The crowd muttered to themselves about this.
“Well, thank you for this timely information Sheriff. So, is everyone up for voting?”
The crowd applauded their approval of this novel way of doing things, and set about discussing amongst themselves whom the culprits may be.
It is now Day 1!
Day 1 will last for 48 hours, and the Day will conclude at 6:30 PM EST Monday night or 1/23/2012.
During Day 1, please vote for whom you think is one of the murderers!
I have also attached "Read Receipts" to your Role PMs. Please say "Yes" so that I know you received it.
Verarde Jan 21, 2012, 04:22 PM Note: Even though Day 1 ends at 6:30 PM EST Monday night, please don't expect me to update at 6:35. I will do my best to be prepared for each update, but there may be times where the actual update comes after the deadline. All votes or orders after the deadline given in each post will not be counted.
Have fun!
Oh, one more thing. Roleplay is heavily encouraged!

CivGeneral Jan 21, 2012, 04:41 PM as I walked across the dusty streets of town. I suddenly noticed a dead body perched near the undertaker's front porch. "So who was slain this time?" he asked. The undertaker remarked that the town just had a murder with a death of Verarde. "The Sheriff remarked that he suspect that it's a work of a group of people" said the undertaker while he pulls the covers to reveal Verarde's face.
As the undertaker recovers Verarde's face, he then asked me what brought me here. I simply responded that I was a Ranger from California just passing through town. "Perhaps you can help with the string of murders" the undertaker stated and continued "it's a long way back to California anyway". I then put on a reluctant face and looked at the undertaker inquisitively. "It's been months if not a year that I have done this. But I'll help anyway I can"
I then checked myself in the local inn and began to mingle with the local crowd. Everyone was gathering around the sheriff to cast their votes for the lynching for the night. Having just arrived into this town, I was in the same situation as everyone else. No clues, no leads, to point the finger of suspicion onto a subject.

CivGeneral Jan 21, 2012, 05:46 PM The lone Ranger, standing amongst the crowd. "DaveShack is a s'spicious type." cried the man next to him while another shouted "GamezRule, it's GamezRule!!". A minute later a zombie with a cowboy hat and a melon head stood up from the bar and screamed at the top of his lungs said "What's inside yer big tin, ye varmint?"
Inside CivGeneral's mind, he knows that there are no leads and no clues to pinpoint who the intended criminal is. Knowing that he has to vote, the ranger opted to avoid committing a faux pass by voting a person who's already been voted twice.
"I hate to say it" CivGeneral said, taking off his Californian Ranger's beret, "But I suspect that Turquoiside might be the perpetrator"
That's not the same mafia QT you sent me in my role PM, I think you mixed one of them up.

Verarde Jan 23, 2012, 09:40 PM END OF DAY 1
There wasn't much seriousness in the town's attitude that day. Much jocularity about where the gathering place of the murderers was abounded, and nobody took any of that seriously. One man even took to drawing a large picture of a man putting the palm of his hand to his face, in order to illustrate his point.
The town's votes were widely scattered, and there was very little solidarity amongst them. CivGeneral had made an impression upon the townspeople as someone who knew what he was talking about, but even he didn't think much of this issue. Thus, no one paid much heed to his call for Turquoiside to confess. Some noted that BigTin could have hidden away the murder weapon inside his massive tin, but another quickly pointed out that BigTin did not, in fact, have a big tin. Thus, the suspicion quickly fell away from him. GamezRule also received a couple townspeople calling for further investigation, but nobody paid those accusations much heed. With the sun slowly setting, the mayor adjourned the meeting until the following day, saying, "It's a good thing that
Nobody was lynched today!
Have a wonderful night everybody. We'll see you back here tomorrow. Stay safe!"
Some of the townies took note of the ominous words of the mayor, and made plans to do just that.
They all went off to their various homes, and settled down for the night.

I always thought that we didn't lynch any'un on da first day so we could all get some idea who them scumbags war. See it un action now it kinda seems pointlass.
Translation:
I always thought that the "no lynch on day one" thing was so we could find someone who is scum. Though seeing it in action many times makes me more and more against the idea.
Askthepizzaguy Jan 23, 2012, 11:03 PM You don't learn anything from a vote if it doesn't accomplish anything. Therefore it is simply a waste of time.
At least with murders first, you can ask yourselves the question: Who killed Askthepizzaguy? Because very few mafiosi have the balls.

So what do ya prefer? Day start with a lynch or a night start?
Askthepizzaguy Jan 23, 2012, 11:57 PM Day start with plurality lynch, gives townies a chance to score first blood so no matter how brief your experience in this game, you had a chance to lynch scum and accuse people and have your say.
I want at least one accusation before I die, or else what's the point of playing.
If not, skip to night phase so I can start killing townies right away. There are just so many of you and you all need serious killin'.

Verarde Jan 24, 2012, 05:13 PM END OF NIGHT 1
The townspeople awoke to what promised to be a very beautiful day. The sun was shining brightly in the cloudless blue sky, and few tumbleweeds tumbled about. The wind blew in from the northwest, bringing a welcome chill from the otherwise hot day.
As they all reconvened in the town square, one man noted that his good friend seemed to be missing. Likely slept in, the lazy oaf, he thought.
The mayor presided over the gathering, which was still full of an air of cheer, although certain members had not gotten over their qualms about the murder.
"Now, is everyone all present and accounted for?" he asked.
The aforementioned man raised his hand. "I durn't know whar Darth Caesar is, Mr. Mayor. Perraps we should look fer 'im?"
The mayor nodded. "Good idea, choxorn. Townspeople, follow me to Darth Caesar's house!"
*
Rap! Rap! Rap!
The mayor's sharp knock echoed in the quiet street as the townspeople waited for Darth Caesar to poke his head out of the above window or out of the door. When 10 minutes and many more raps had gone by, a muttering began that the mayor didn't like. He turned to the group. "Sheriff, would you do us the honor?"
The Sheriff picked a few strong men out from the crowd, and as one they slammed hard against the door. It opened easily.
"Wasn't bolted," remarked the Sheriff. This didn't help the attitude of the crowd, and their muttering only grew louder.
The mayor shoved his way by the men and marched right upstairs. The sight he saw arrested him immediately.
There Darth Caesar lay in bed, which had turned red from soaking up the massive amounts of blood that was leaking out from the multiple bullet wounds that he had suffered.
From this, it was quite obvious that
Darth Caesar was Innocent!
The mayor gulped. It was not what he had been expecting. From behind him, the Sheriff and his men pounded up the stairs, stopping short at what confronted them. One retched violently and ran back down.
"Can you make anything of this, Sheriff?" asked the mayor.
"I'll do my darndest, Mr. Mayor, but I don't know what I'll find. We'll see though."
*
After they had all paid their respects to Darth Caesar, the mayor reconvened the gathering in the square.
"We must find the ones who did this. I have asked the Sheriff to set up a gallows. Whomever receives the most votes today will be hung, no questions asked. I know this may seem desperate, but we obviously have a group of men here who are desperate themselves, and we must take appropriate action. Thank you for understanding."
He paused, reflecting upon what his next words might mean for his heretofore quiet little town.
"You may now vote."

Verarde Jan 24, 2012, 06:21 PM Added some extra flavor writing and the player list.
GM Comment: Also a note, if I mention someone in the writeup, that has no bearing at all on their participation in the previous night or the day's events. People who stand out during the Day may be mentioned in the Day writeups, and random people will be selected to play roles in the night writeups.

Homocide? Just what are you implying about Darth Caesar, mister Pizzadude?
Darth Caesar voted for landlubber. Which means landlubber probably isn't mafia. Or just bad mafia. Or clever mafia.
Day 1 votes mean nothing, and probably wouldn't affect the mafia's kill choice.

 You have no proof, and I honestly can't see any reason you all would even think there's a benefit to lynching me. Look, there's only a 3/17 chance that I'm the culprit. If you just assume I'm not Mafia you raise your chances of catching skyrocked to 3/16. You know what? I'll just Vote:Turquoiside too! Now someone else vote for Pizza so I can be the third person to vote for him, after I unvote;vote for every other player in the game.
Anyway, Vote:Jarrema, because he's first on the list and therefore must be Mafia.

Reacting seriously to an obviously light-hearted post? Now which one of you is scummier...choxorn's half-suggestion of a Joker* role is contrived, but GamezRule backing his vote? You know I'd expect this from choxorn regardless of his role, but not GamezRule. It feels like a mafia attempting to join a bandwagon before it becomes cool. Unvote;Vote:GamezRule
*Any host should know by now that putting a Joker role in a game on CFC, certainly nowadays, is practically handing them a win.
Ceoladir Jan 24, 2012, 10:09 PM Meh. I'm always rather disengaged in the early parts of any mafia game. It seemed legit so I jumped on it. Ask anybody who's ever been on a team with me. My activity always spikes in the late game.
j65536d Jan 24, 2012, 10:28 PM So looking at all of the posts I think it more likely that turquoise is a mafia who made a mistake in assuming that everyone knew how many mafia there were than anything else, sure there are other explanations but in this case I think I am going with occam's razor.
Jarrema Jan 24, 2012, 11:29 PM vote: j65536d.

Jarrema Jan 25, 2012, 09:18 AM yeah

it may be a mafia slip
but I think probability is low, and this bandwagon is BAD

Askthepizzaguy Jan 25, 2012, 11:27 AM I'm not entirely sure.
I am starting to sense, on the fourth re-read, that it was an attempt at humor. Being a jovial guy, I appreciate that. But wow, he sounded like he had four heads speaking in tongues angrily at one another.
Was that scummy? Bad humor?
Not by rule. Still, not exonerating. I don't really have a reason to move my random vote right now.
Zack Jan 25, 2012, 03:06 PM Was that scummy? Bad humor?
I remember you posting in the commentary of your Star Wars game how good sarcastic humor (what Turq was striving for, but failed at) is an indicator of townie. You used myself as your example.

Yes, it's been established that good humor is not particularly scummy.
But is bad humor necessarily a scum tell? Only lynch will tell.

Verarde Jan 26, 2012, 04:43 PM END OF DAY 2
Today's discussions produced much more fruitful thoughts and a greater clarity of mind amongst the townspeople. Some still thought that waiting for more information to present itself was their best option, as NinjaCow64 abstained from voting for the second day in a row. There were again some scattered votes amongst the various townspeople.
askthepizzaguy noted that he didn't like the way that Turquoiside was looking at him, and thought aloud that he might be a culprit. Turquoiside was heavily offended by this outrageous and decided to speak out against this falsehood.
"You durn't have no proof!" he cried. "I hurnestly durn't see any darn-good reason for voting me. Whar you thinkin'?! I think Jarrema is the problem here. He was the first one here this morning. A little too eager if'n you ask me."
This turned the town against Turquoiside almost immediately, with some calling it a "slip", and others wondering if Turquoiside actually wanted to be lynched, his comments were so strange. Jarrema tried to reason with the town, letting them know that he thought what he called a "bandwagon" was quite silly. Some were frightened and confused by his words, and by the end of the day, the town was quite set in their decision. One man noted quite poetically that there was no way that they could steer the cattle at all that day, and placed his vote upon another.
But as the sun set, Turquoiside found himself with an overwhelming amount of votes against him.
"C'mon, ya'll. What are ya'll lookin' at me like that fer? I hurnestly didn't do nothing. I guess I just overreacted."
"Yeah, overreacted to bein' found out!" cried Skwink. The town nodded. Turquoiside was quickly brought down by the crowd, and the Sheriff produced a pair of handcuffs. Turquoiside strained as hard as he could to break free, but to no avail. The vengeful crowd marched him to the gallows and placed his neck around the noose. Turquoiside sighed and muttered to himself.
"You will see how wrong you are, my friends. I only hope that you will catch the true criminals."
The town didn't hear these final words as the Sheriff stretched his leg and kicked the bucket underneath Turquoiside.
As the life ebbed from his body, Turquoiside smiled. "Good luck," he whispered as the breath escaped his lungs.
*
After this, the townspeople marched to Turquoiside's former dwellings. They searched diligently throughout his possessions, but unfortunately could not find anything incriminating. Reluctantly, they concluded that
Turquoiside was Innocent!
Disappointed that their "bandwagon" had failed, the town went back to their respective houses and prepared for whatever the night might bring them.

Verarde Jan 27, 2012, 04:29 PM END OF NIGHT 2
The morning sun rose above what was no longer a peaceful town. Much had happened that evening that many of the townspeople were blissfully unaware of.
The mayor called their somber meeting to order. Grimacing, he began to take attendance.
"DaveShack?"
"Yup."
"Zack? Hey, that rhymes."
Zack assented to his being there.
The mayor went down through the list, and nobody was found missing.
Until he got to the end.
"Choxorn?"
Silence. A tumbleweed tumbled by.
The mayor tried again, his stomach souring.
"Choxorn?"
Still nothing.
He sighed. "Well, let's see what we can find of him."
The group made their way to choxorn's house. The mayor was about to knock when the Sheriff stopped the mayor's outstretched arm, shaking his head sadly.
SLAM!
The door fell down with a loud noise, and there, confronting the townspeople, was...
choxorn eating breakfast in his sleepwear.
Some of the more timid townspeople turned aside their eyes, while the others began to smile..then grin..then laugh at the foolishness of it all.
The mayor wiped his hand across his eyes, sighing in obvious relief. "Well! It seems that everyone is accounted for. Why don't we hold the meeting right here, if that's alright with you, choxorn."
choxorn nodded. "Just let me get some appropriate clothes on first."
The town laughed, and began to discuss who might be one of the murderers.

Do you really think that I'd be that stupid to do something like that if I was Mafia? I learnt my lesson from ATOC thank you very much.

You certainly wouldn't be the first mafioso to try and coax an innocent power role into revealing themselves to you. I will concede, however, that you certainly wouldn't be the first townie to do so either.

choxorn Jan 27, 2012, 05:08 PM Zack, are you just inferring you were attacked from the write-up, or do you actually know you were attacked? The write-up doesn't really make it clear why there was no kill, or who was attacked but didn't die.
Zack Jan 27, 2012, 05:11 PM Zack, are you just inferring you were attacked from the write-up, or do you actually know you were attacked? The write-up doesn't really make it clear why there was no kill, or who was attacked but didn't die.
I received a PM from our wonderful host, Verarde, telling me that I was attacked last night.
CivGeneral Jan 27, 2012, 05:46 PM CivGeneral glares at NinjaCow after making a big announcement. "What's this about a roleblock. Hmm, Cow?" CivGeneral said to NinjaCow. "It's a joke!! I swear!!!!". Soon, everyone circled NinjaCow. Desperate for a distraction, NinjaCow shouted off the top of his lungs "POLAND!!!" but it was no use. Except for Choxorn who blurted out "Poland is in Africa!!". "Ok, Ok, enough with the Poland jokes. At least it's not an arrow to the knee joke. But enough delay NinjaCow. What do you have to say in your defense?" CivGeneral said as he leans over NinjaCow.

 I freaking love that meme.
I received a PM from our wonderful host, Verarde, telling me that I was attacked last night.
Damn, that rules out the possibility of the Mafia being roleblocked. :(
I'm slightly suspicious of you though as claiming Bulletproof is a really good explanation why you're not getting killed at night when you are Mafia. Therefore, my vote goes to Zack. It's not a very good lead but it's the only one we've got.
What do you have to say in your defense?" CivGeneral said as he leans over NinjaCow.
Firstly, I would like to say that Poland is in Eastern Europe. :p
Secondly, I am a Vanilla Townie. No powers, no nothing. It would be a waste to lynch me but not a tragedy. So if the town decides to lynch me I will go quietly.

There is the possibility of Zack being protected by a doctor. Where in the world did you get bulletproof? And why does that make him scum? It would be pointless for a mafia to be bulletproof, so why does that make you want to vote for him?
Wasn't going to vote for you, but I'm not liking the way this is sounding. Vote:NinjaCow.
Optical Jan 27, 2012, 08:24 PM I'm most convinced by the case on NinjaCow right now.

Damn, that rules out the possibility of the Mafia being roleblocked. :(
Not necessarily. The wrong mafioso might have been blocked, or something.

I never claimed bulletproof (and even if I did, that's a lousy reason for voting me at this point), and you're only voting me because I voted you. You're OMGUSing just like you did in A Tale of One City against askthepizzaguy.
Secondly, I am a Vanilla Townie. No powers, no nothing. It would be a waste to lynch me but not a tragedy. So if the town decides to lynch me I will go quietly.
What an easy claim for a mafioso to make.

Askthepizzaguy Jan 29, 2012, 01:28 AM Who's gamerzrule? ;)
GamezRule's evil twin. Unlike his brother, he believes that supreme executive power derives from the gaming masses, not from the farcical entertaining diversions they participate in.

Verarde Jan 29, 2012, 07:10 PM END OF DAY 3
The town didn't seem like they had learned their lesson about the "bandwagons", as Jarrema had called them. It was a strange name, but somehow, it fit, and after NinjaCow64 made some interesting remarks, much of the town bandwagoned after him.
Again, other votes were scattered. Some held that this bandwagoning was not a helpful way of deducing who were the murderers. Rather, it became the actions of an increasingly afraid and paranoid town.
Hmm, thought NinjaCow64. Seems like bandwagon has already become a verb as well.
Those were his last thoughts as the noose tightened around his neck. With his dying breath, he also wished the town luck in their quest.
The town made their way to NinjaCow64's house, like they did with Turquoiside, and found exactly the same thing as they did at Turquoiside's house--nothing incriminating NinjaCow64, which meant that
NinjaCow64 was Innocent!
Some raised the question of why they were "shooting first" and asking questions later, but they were ignored in favor of the hanging. Everyone likes a good hanging, right?
The mayor dismissed them all, and they prepared for the night.

[night 2 there seemed to be various evidence supporting a zack was attacked and not killed. also I was critical of you yesterday; I think you're efforts thus far this game does not reflect what I believe to be the townie general olaf. the one that tries to make cases, not really have the weak willed one I criticised post 167].
Optical Jan 31, 2012, 07:04 PM Damn! I forgot that.
landlubber Jan 31, 2012, 07:23 PM So... are you going to offer a defense, Olaf, or just acknowledge it and move on?

GamezRule for now, but keeping an open mind about it.
Will the townie General Olaf please step forward and remove this impostor?
Vote: General Olaf
Kennigit Jan 31, 2012, 07:54 PM well I think olaf actually did forget about the night 2 discussion. It's not like a mafia would go around saying something silly like no mafia exists (they might do a mini-version of that in a larger game when there are different mafia factions and claim other factions did stuff). Olaf isn't doing that here, but saying mafia didn't send orders isn't ridiculous. Saying people do that to throw people off is kind of silly though, as the victory conditions are noted to be the mafia needs to equal or outnumber the town.
So this vote is mostly metagamey that general olaf isn't paying enough attention. Still though, people should investigate gamezrule/others before this wagon is a runaway.
edited some grammar.
choxorn Jan 31, 2012, 08:16 PM Not sure whether General Olaf is a clueless townie or pretending to be a clueless townie.

Jarrema Feb 01, 2012, 05:23 AM Gamezrule seems better target to me
Askthepizzaguy Feb 01, 2012, 05:40 AM Ok, why so?
Is there anything particularly decisive between Gamez and Olaf as suspects that makes it clear which one is a better candidate, and if so, please articulate that.
Kennigit Feb 01, 2012, 07:22 AM Well, take the truth however you like it, it doesn't change it. I was attacked.
hmmmmmmmmmmmmm. I think you and zack should confer in private over the nature of the messages you each so called received. It's possible you might have been a target of a vig, as I don't get the impression people would vig mechaerik.
But, considering that "Nobody has a personal VC." and the game is over when the mafia "equal or outnumber the town, the game is over!" there seems to be no evidence of a serial killer.
I don't particularly think you would lie about something trivial like this, but then again, who knows.
Jarrema Feb 01, 2012, 08:52 AM Ok, why so?
Is there anything particularly decisive between Gamez and Olaf as suspects that makes it clear which one is a better candidate, and if so, please articulate that.
I do not know
I just *feel* it as a better choice. I would gladly follow any better lead, if there was one
DaveShack Feb 01, 2012, 09:50 AM I think GamezRule's report of being attacked seems reasonable. The idea of a vigilante would fit in perfectly -- it's not called the wild west for nothing. However if there is one, he doesn't seem too effective, missing twice if we think Zack was attacked by the same person. I'm not so sure about that though, the NinjaCow lynch was all about a perceived flinch when he mentioned roleblocks (as only a scum would be concerned about blocking mafia) instead of a possible doctor.
I think General Olaf is a better choice right now than GamezRule. And my FoS points in the general direction of folk who were suspicious of the attacks.
Ceoladir Feb 01, 2012, 09:53 AM My PM basically said something along the lines of "As you leaned forward to grab your coffee, a bullet whizzed through where your head used to be. You ran outside to meet your attacker, and all you saw was a trenchcoated figure running away from the scene."
landlubber Feb 01, 2012, 01:22 PM It makes no sense that Gamez would say that out of the blue with no heat on him and nothing like "All vigilantes reveal to me" as mafia. So, because of that, I'll vote: Olaf.
Jarrema Feb 01, 2012, 03:07 PM It makes no sense that Gamez would say that out of the blue with no heat on him and nothing like "All vigilantes reveal to me" as mafia.[/B]
Yes.
Unvote; vote: Olaf
choxorn Feb 01, 2012, 03:13 PM I'd have to agree.
On the other hand, Olaf doesn't seem that mafiaish. That statement about the night 2 kills makes me think he wasn't paying enough attention to notice that Zack claimed he'd been attacked, in which case, he's far more likely to be innocent than mafia.
Zack Feb 01, 2012, 03:18 PM GamezRule, did your PM from Verarde specifically note that you were attacked? If not, it wasn't an attack. Perhaps you were roleblocked, or something to that effect?
Kennigit Feb 01, 2012, 03:36 PM well I'd say if it did specify bullet that specifies an attack.
anyways, seems zack and gamezrule's attack PMs are consistent with how people are dying. Every dead body has been found in their own "house", not some type of gun show-down or something like that.
Though I'm also not inclined to think being attacked means innocence. It depends on how many more night kills/attacks we get, but I could easily see mafia escaping vig's. Sheriff wants to take someone out at OK corral? The rustlers can run away.
Since no night kill happened night 2, I'd assume zack was attacked by the mafia.
j65536d Feb 01, 2012, 04:47 PM I am still trying to puzzle through the attack on gamezrule, if it in fact matches zack's then it seems reasonable to assume the same thing was done to them.
The problem with this is that when zack was attacked there was no kill, and when gamezrule there was.
Which either means that this is not a kill and they failed against someone else on night 2 or that there are in fact 2 kills and they just have never happened to succeed on the same night. This seems unlikely, especially in this small a game.
Anyway I am rambling analysis, my conclusion is that this is not a kill or that gamezrule is lying, and if it is not a kill why did zack's attack correspond with no kill. Gamezrule I would like to know if your attack really matches with zack's

j65536d Feb 01, 2012, 08:20 PM @gamezrule, in both cases because you seem scummier than the others. Yesterday I was not a fan of the ninjacow bandwagon, and today, you have claims of an attack, despite the previous nights suggesting only one attack.
General Olaf looks confused, gamezrule is making quite a claim (2 attacks in the same night) and of the two bandwagons seems the better pick

This morning, CivGeneral was found to be missing. The town all popped over to his house, and when they didn't find him dead in his parlor, they all sighed in relief. But it wasn't over yet. The mayor trooped upstairs, and there he was, dead on the floor, with a round hole in the side of his head. Because he was dead, it was clear that
CivGeneral was Innocent!
"A good shot," noted the mayor.
Some of the townspeople muttered at this comment, but the mayor turned to assuage their fears. "It wasn't me, don't worry. Now, all back to my place for some refreshments, then we shall resume our voting."

I have been a joker, those roles suck, and I play to be entertaining. There is not a chance in hell that I would post this post as a joker. I would want my play to be praised in the postgame as creative or entertaining; this is not. It's the only way I could accept a joker win as legit; if it was earned in spectacular fashion and no one suspected it.
This is a townie post. This information is useful in helping you determine what other kinds of roles there are in the game. I am too distracted by real stuff to dig deep for cases on folks. As such, I am looking for a prosecutor with a good case that I can follow.
Make your case and state your reasons, I will "me too" it.

Once all the mafia are killed, or the mafia equal or outnumber the town, the game is over!
Further Notes:
Nobody has a personal VC. The townies VC is to find all the mafia, and the mafia’s VC is to outnumber the townies.
I'm glad you have a personal victory condition.

I am not even close to following your thought process. Do be kind and explain it very slowly for me.
Askthepizzaguy Feb 08, 2012, 10:53 AM You guys really think I'd claim unlynchable out of the blue, with no pressure, making myself the subject of discussion that round on purpose, as mafia?
Really?
I mean, listen... I'm not infallible as a townie, for sure, and I'm known for some crazy gambits as mafia. But let me clue you in on stuff:
Now, this is important, because you guys never read me correctly; as in, ever. Like, you lynched me as mafia in the paired mafia because all that was left was TWO MASON PAIRS. So you weren't going to lynch your own mason partner. And then one of you guys still flinched! That is the only time since the first game I've ever played as mafia that I got lynched correctly as mafia based on no detective result.
So clearly, you have no idea what you're doing. You'd think a guy who has been mafia some 30-35 times with a very verbose track record would have a clear, proven tell when they're mafia. So I'll be a sport and point out what it is.
When I play as mafia, I do things which increase my odds of not being lynched.
Let it sink in for a moment.
Understand your error now?
No? Still need a demonstration?
Lynch me you sad, sad, silly people. You never learn! This is just like the last game... I do something which I would never ever do as mafia, and you guys call like I'm bluffing. You never call me when I AM bluffing, you ALWAYS call when I've got the townie card. If this were a poker game, well... you ran out of chips years ago.
I'm surrounded by sillies. Now there is no choice. I must demonstrate my frighteningly awesome-ah pow-ah.
Askthepizzaguy Feb 08, 2012, 10:55 AM I still don't have time to scum-hunt today, so don't even hold your breath for me to come up with an alternative lynch either. Today is do your own work day.
Kennigit Feb 08, 2012, 11:04 AM I'm not saying you're bluffing. I'm saying you're wrong about the game design, unless proven otherwise.
Generally, people who don't talk about the game design either need to be lynched or are scum. They do nothing but hurt the town and the thread.
I don't care if you've been mafia/townie a million times in the past; a game has a setup, and players follow that setup.
The game setup also specifically says how abilities that need to be used need a PM:
Abilities:
If you have an ability that can be used during the day, you must PM me your action.
so I find your claim of having a joker, with a property of lynch-resistance, to be inconsistent with the game in multiple ways.
You may survive the lynch, but you'd have to use an ability via PM to do so.
prove otherwise.
Kennigit Feb 08, 2012, 12:08 PM So, I've thought about a couple things, that I'll write down really quickly. There easily can be some inaccuracies.
Firstly, I've already led one wrong bandwagon so I think we should give a chance for pizza to clarify his role.
this update civg did die in a parlor as opposed to his own residence, which is how other updates have gone (as well as claims by gamezrule and zack). So while I was reading into that before, it's probably just flair.
The gamezrule situation is confusing, and I'd like to believe it was a failed vig (rather than gamezrule having some sort of immunity). That stays consistent with description of abilities. Zack appears to have been protected (possibly), unless he'd like to clarify some sort of immunity.
tl;dr-- I don't see evidence of immunities. Considering the rules do clarify day abilities, we have to believe there can be some sort of lynch interference through PM (or verarde was a really thorough GM). I'd suspect a "call lynch off" ability more than a lynch immunity.
Night abilities are described similarly in the rules, so I'd have to imagine zack got outside help and gamezrule was a result of the other person failing his ability.
if a doctor or vig thinks I'm innocent, you really could clarify a lot to me in private. I'd ask you to contact someone to clarify this type of stuff. I understand if you don't trust me.
Zack Feb 08, 2012, 03:06 PM if a doctor or vig thinks I'm innocent, you really could clarify a lot to me in private. I'd ask you to contact someone to clarify this type of stuff. I understand if you don't trust me.
Wouldn't it make a lot more sense for a doctor or vig to reveal to me than to you? Why are you suggesting yourself?
Vote: Kennigit
Also, why are you hounding ATPG for saying he's not a joker? You want him lynched because he said he wasn't a role that clearly isn't in the game? I'm not following your logic.
choxorn Feb 08, 2012, 03:23 PM I'm so confused. I'm just going to Vote: Jarrema, because you don't get to post reasonless one-liner votes on Day 5 and expect to avoid suspicion.
Ceoladir Feb 08, 2012, 03:24 PM unvote
Zack Feb 08, 2012, 04:16 PM If there is a vig, could you please contact me? A little birdie whispered a theory with some meat to it to me; a solid vig claim would help cement it as either true or false. Who you have targeted is especially important.
Also, if the doctor could reveal to me (assuming you're still alive), that would be helpful. You know I'm not mafia. Better coordination between power roles, which I can organize anonymously, will make the game that much easier to solve. I'm already working with one power role, but it would be much easier if a greater townie network could be organized.
Kennigit Feb 08, 2012, 07:30 PM er wait I actually don't think I read too closely.
what are you actually saying pizza? grammatically I find it hard to read. First read through I thought you said you were a joker.
Askthepizzaguy Feb 08, 2012, 07:31 PM 1) I said I was not a joker, and why; the usual response to "I'm unlynchable" is- This guy is a mafioso, lynch him. Or, This guy is a joker, don't lynch him. I'm not a joker, and I wouldn't post that post I posted (posty posty post with Post cereal as I cross-post with other posters at the post office) if I were a Joker because it's not an interesting way to win.
2) I do not have any other abilities however I am more than willing to lynch the person that you need lynched Zack. Zack attack. Zack daddy. Zack and Jill went up the hill.
3) Yes I need to PM the game host to survive the lynch.
4) I actually wouldn't do that. If you were to waste your time lynching me, forcing you to have to use up two days to do that is anti-town. But if I were so inclined I could survive a lynch.
Yeah.
Kennigit Feb 08, 2012, 07:39 PM atpg unvote
I'm still curious why a townie would have a self-lynch stopper (you give no indication that it's a general "call off the lynch").
but that's cleared up for now; I can't do anything except be more wrong.
Askthepizzaguy Feb 08, 2012, 07:58 PM Let's say today we didn't have good consensus on a target. Well, we could avoid a mislynch, by using me to essentially "no lynch" today.
Mafia generally do not have lynch-surviving abilities unless townies do. The reasons why they don't should be obvious, especially to you folks who played Sigurd's Star Wars or Seamus' Capo IV.
So, me saying I can survive a lynch generally increases the odds I get lynched for folks assuming I'm full of it, or folks who want to prove it, or for whatever reason. It moved, kill it. Etc.
In my mind, that should be a clear signal that I'm not mafia, and there are no jokers in this game. So I'm a townie that can dodge the lynch, which is not that useful an ability because it just means I can be lynched again and waste some time.
My question is, if I have such a power, would you assume that others in this game might have abilities that can sway the lynch? Let's say for example, a double-voter or a vote switcher.
One thing that I could see a use for, is if in an endgame situation, the mafia tried to force my death by lynch and I survived and then there weren't enough dead townies to end the game... then it would be useful. But the odds of that situation happening are long and the claim itself is not credible unless the person claiming is under zero pressure. At least that's what I think.
Askthepizzaguy Feb 08, 2012, 08:00 PM So I figured I should claim now, because the claim is worse than useless later on if I am under pressure. It could actually be anti-town to use the ability in the first place, and claiming it under pressure is dubious.
Askthepizzaguy Feb 08, 2012, 08:03 PM Also I technically have time to scum-hunt now but I just moved into my apartment and I have no bed or chairs yet. I'm at the computer and the computer is on the kitchen counter. I do my better thinking when I'm reclining and munching on Doritos.
Askthepizzaguy Feb 08, 2012, 08:12 PM I'm still curious why a townie would have a self-lynch stopper (you give no indication that it's a general "call off the lynch").
Oh. Yes, I can stop a lynch on any of you guys too.
But, having no knowledge of who is guilty or innocent, why in the world would I do that? That's even scummier than self-saving. At least I know I'm innocent.
It would take a fantastical tale of awesome epicness for me to reverse a town lynch on a suspect. That just leads to a cluster of bleepity bleep where they try to lynch em again, and me afterward.
So yeah, completely useless ability.
j65536d Feb 08, 2012, 10:06 PM I have no new information so I am left pick between what other people have said, and at the moment I see no strong cases.
In this case Jarrema mostly for my own safety and hoping to have him either make a case against me or switch his vote off of me (if I dont vote for someone with a vote on them I think I am in a tie for first)
Askthepizzaguy Feb 08, 2012, 10:57 PM Why do you want him to make a case against you? Do you feel defeat would be easier to swallow if perhaps you were given a chance to refute the reasoning presented?
"I don't mind losing if..." syndrome.
Vote: j65536d for flinching, and having an atrocious name. That more than your guilt is the reason you must die.
j65536d Feb 09, 2012, 07:38 AM I want him to make a case against me because that I can refute, as you say, you were given such a chance and were able to sway kennigit, I am left with a vote on me that may get me killed (we have very few voting), I would rather die based on logic than randomness.
DaveShack Feb 09, 2012, 07:39 AM I'm going to vote: Jarrema for just tossing out a vote with nothing backing it up.
