View Full Version : Term 1: The Office of Octavian X, President
Octavian X Feb 21, 2003, 10:06 PM Welcome to the office of President for the first term of the Multi Site Democracy Game!
This thread will serve as a headquarters for Presidential communications. Various planning efforts, announcements, or anything else will go in here.
In a day or so, I will post plans for a system of play without turn chats, based on CFC's Civ2 Democracy Game (link in my sig). I feel a system without chats would be best at the moment, since a majority of our actions will be exploration with a few warriors, and some simple worker tasks.
Good luck to the Fanatikese, and have fun!
Octavian X Feb 21, 2003, 10:08 PM My first order of business will be to appoint a Public Defender and Judge Advocate. I took the PD position just to temporarily fill out the judiciary, and will retire that position as soon as some new people volunteer.
Please, nominate someone, or volunteer yourself. Current leaders, there are no restrictions keeping you from holding multiple positions.
naervod Feb 21, 2003, 11:43 PM I will volunteer for the position of Public Defender. I would have aspired to higher office had I been around for the last part of nominations and the election period but I missed out. Well there is always next time.
Cyc Feb 22, 2003, 05:45 AM Congratulations Mr. President! Glad to see you in the big chair. I will volunteer for the JA position, as I'm sure there wont be any PI's, especially in the first term. Are we having terms? How long is the first one?
I agree that we don't need turn chats in this instance, but detailed reports would be nice.
Chieftess Feb 22, 2003, 06:31 AM If we have an election every month, that's 30-31 turns, except for February. Maybe something like every 45 turns? On Turn 40, nominations, then on turn 43, elections. Or for simplicity, every 50 turns. With that way, there will be approx. 4-8 terms.
Goonie Feb 22, 2003, 07:04 AM I say 50 turns is nice.
Octavian X Feb 22, 2003, 12:14 PM naervod, Cyc, You've got the jobs!
CT: Our working constitution sets terms to lengths of 45 turns, giving us an equal 10 terms in the length of a normal game.
Ehecatl Atzin Feb 22, 2003, 12:57 PM Well Octavian, you finally made it to the big office, congrats! I agree with the t/c'less of the these first turns, just keep us up to date with all the comings and goings ;)

Here's a schedule I proposed along time ago:
Here's a list of suggested terms and election dates where each term is 54 turns long and we have elections that last 6 turns. Remember, we play one turn at a time and have to wait for all other teams to play before we go again. With a two day turn around time terms would last a little over two months and elections would last almost two weeks.
Term # start election end
1 4000 BC 1830 BC 1650 BC
2 1625 BC 510 BC 390 BC
3 370 BC 410 AD 470 AD
4 480 AD 950 AD 1010 AD
5 1020 AD 1370 AD 1400 AD
6 1405 AD 1640 AD 1670 AD
7 1675 AD 1814 AD 1826 AD
8 1828 AD 1922 AD 1934 AD
9 1936 AD 1990 AD 1996 AD
10 1997 AD n/a 2050 AD
We can certianly adjust these so that everyone is happy with them. I do think 6 turns is long enough for the actual elections. We would have to have nominations ended by then of course. What do you all think?
(Now Mr. President don't think we're trying to get rid of you already just because we're we're talking about elections alread. ;) )
naervod Feb 22, 2003, 06:14 PM I agree with donsig's proposal.
Thank you for the job Octavian. Now, I hope Vander can put up the new Judiciary thread.
Cyc Feb 23, 2003, 01:03 PM I think we should make donsig the Vice President for COC purposes.
Cheetah Feb 24, 2003, 08:50 AM I thought we didnt have deputies and vices?
Cyc Feb 24, 2003, 09:33 AM Well, according to the Constitution, you're right. But that may change soon.
Cyc Feb 26, 2003, 06:40 AM Mr. President, can you please switch the Warrior in Sacred Forest to a Settler? If you do not favor this idea, please inform us how long it will take to build a Settler.
Octavian X Feb 26, 2003, 12:35 PM I will look into it. When I get the game, I'll bring up the subject amongst who is there.
Also, when a subject like this comes up, also try discussion in the turn thread...
Gingerbread Man Feb 26, 2003, 11:42 PM I have appointed Ehecatl Atzin as Governor of the capital province, FYI. Unless there is something wrong with that.
I am also asking that you switch to settler as soon as it will take longer to build than the city to grow to size three. In fact, even if we waste one turn, I still suggest we switch, but that is up to you, and others.
Be careful when there is 1 turn left to build the warrior. We may not get the settler ASAP if we miss that.
I'm really just saying that I think we should get the settler no later than the turn, or the turn after, we grow. Even if it means wasting shields.
Gingerbread Man Mar 02, 2003, 11:05 PM I think we need a thread to post everyone's instructions in. there would only be one thread a term, since there would be no turn chats. the DP would just look in the instructions thread and follow any instructions for that turn in the thread.
people would only have one post each in this thread, and periodically update their post, which wouls have instructions for the next 8 or so turns.
As the DP, i think you should start this post.
Gingerbread Man Mar 22, 2003, 09:11 PM *bump*
Mr President, I would like to inform you that I now have PTW, and I will email you my address. A quick Q - what version am I supposed to use?
My green hours are from 4:30pm untill 10:30pm Australian EST, which is I think 6:30am until 12:30pm GMT, but Daylight savings constantly confuse me about international times.
