View Full Version : SMAC game of two months
kundor Jun 21, 2001, 05:48 PM Would anyone be interested in playing an informal SMAC version of the GOTM? If anyone wants to I could start up a game and put the save on geocities and link it from here, you could play it and email me the endgame, and I'd post results (just using alpha centauri score instead of fancy formulas ) here...Since SMAC games can take a while, I'd only make a new one every 2 months, maybe, and I wouldn't have due dates either...So does anyone want a SMAC gotm?

dreadhead7 Jun 21, 2001, 06:04 PM kundor, I think that would be cool. Sign me up!

kundor Jun 22, 2001, 05:30 PM Okay, here's the first SMAC gotm!! Since this is a "test run" we'll see if anyone finishes in a month, if so I'll post a new one once a month. (Well, we'll see if anyone plays other than dreadhead7 and me.)
Here's the deal:
random map
standard size planet
Difficulty level: Librarian
standard rules
Faction: Gaians
You can, of course, win in any of the four ways, or lose if you want to. Email me the saved game from right before you win at nickmatteo@yahoo.com and tell me how to finish the game, when people have finished sending in I'll post the scores.
Download the saved game at geocities.com/nickmatteo/smacgotm.zip. If you don't like zip files, just email me.

dreadhead7 Jun 22, 2001, 09:33 PM Hey, kundor, I can't seem to access that page. I get an error message saying the page isn't available for viewing. Can you e-mail the file to me? Zip files are fine with me. My e-mail address is dreadhead7@uswest.net. Thanks!

kundor Jun 23, 2001, 09:20 AM I'll send it to you this afternoon when I get home, dreadhead7...
If anyone else has this problem, try right-clicking and saying "save link as" in Netscape or "Save Target as" in IE... That should pop up a dialog box asking where to put the zip file.
If anyone else does download it, please post here and let me know you're playing, so I have a basic idea how many people are doing this...Thanks.

Rambokalle Jun 23, 2001, 06:47 PM How about Alien crossfire instead of classic at next month? Then I'm in too http://forums.civfanatics.com/ubb/smile.gif.
kundor Jun 24, 2001, 02:24 PM People with Alien Crossfire installed can still load original SMAC saved games, can't they?
I don't have SMAC/x, so if someone else wants to make a Crossfire gotm, they can, but that would just prevent orignals from playing, while I believe anyone can play original savs. Correct me if I'm wrong.
Rambokalle Jun 24, 2001, 03:44 PM You're not wrong. It's possible to play
original too. I just thought that it would be better, if we played smac/x. I didn't thought about that everyone maybe doesn't have alien crossfire. So, you're right, gotm in original is better idea.
And I'm in too.
kundor Jun 29, 2001, 09:53 AM Wow, this has been up a week and two whole people have responded. I hope more people downloaded it than answered this thread, because otherwise there obviously isn't much point. I wonder if there's something keeping people away, because it seemed like a pretty good idea to me. This forum has become fairly active, there are several smac lovers, do they just not like this idea?
Sukenis Jun 29, 2001, 11:27 AM I am planning on playing, so make it three people. I will start when I finish my current game.
Also is there a good place to meet people for multi player games? I only get a chance to play them when a few friends and I network our computers together (not that often).
kundor Jul 11, 2001, 02:29 PM Just letting you people know that my old email provider is shutting down http://forums.civfanatics.com/ubb/frown.gif , so email me any savegames at nickmatteo@yahoo.com.
starlifter Jul 20, 2001, 03:10 AM Do they have a patch to convert SMAC to Civ II so it will work right http://forums.civfanatics.com/ubb/smile.gif ? BTW, j/k
Sukenis Jul 20, 2001, 11:50 AM How showe do this? I have played (and beat) the GOTM and have my savegame ready. I an just wondering how I should post. Should I do like the Civ GOTM and say what I did and how I won or just send in the game and get a score?
kundor Jul 21, 2001, 12:26 AM Sukenis--
Send me the game, and say how you won, and if it's saved from right before you won say what to do to win...also include your username so I know who you are... i'm not sure what you mean by "say what I did," but if you want to describe how you played and what occured, you could open a second spoiler thread...(is that what you mean?)
I'll put scores here after we get all 4 games done.
kundor Aug 21, 2001, 09:16 PM In case anyone was wondering, the SMAC GOTM is officially a failure. Not one person mailed in results. It's been two months now--the longer provisional period--and despite noises from Sukenis, nothing has come of this. (I never got around to playing the game myself, since there wasn't any competition.)
I guess there's just not enough SMAC fans to support this sort of thing. Oh well.
Sukenis Aug 22, 2001, 11:20 AM Sorry for not sending it. My internet at home is screwed up and I am not wanting to send it from work. I always kept thinking I would get the home internet working soon, and soon has turned into a long time.
