I'm not very religious, but I was wondering what the meaning of Easter is. Can anyone tell me?

We got the date right this year, since it's Passover right now :)

Yes, yes, happy "Easter", dear schismatic Christian bros! The True one, Orthodox Easter will, of course, be a bit later.

Christians are a little late celebrating the equinox this year.

I experienced Easter at an Episcopal church today. Very crowded. I liked how a wooden cross was set up outside and people decorated it with flowers.

The word Easter refers to Eostur, a germanic fertility godess.

I guess that means no christian slogans a la "Putting Christ Back in Christmas". Putting east back in Easter? Putting yeast back in Easter?

I like to think that we may have gotten the name from something Pagan, but it is still a Christian holiday no matter what. We are celebrating the Resurrection and Ascension of the Christ, and that is all that matters to me. :)

Easter (Old English: Ēostre; Greek: Πάσχα, Paskha; Aramaic: פֶּסחא Pasḥa; from Hebrew: פֶּסַח Pesaḥ)[1] is a Christian feast and holiday celebrating the resurrection of Jesus Christ on the third day after his crucifixion at Calvary as described in the New Testament.[2][3] Easter is preceded by Lent, a forty-day period of fasting, prayer, and penance. The last week of Lent is called Holy Week, and it contains the days of the Easter Triduum, including Maundy Thursday, commemorating Maundy and the Last Supper,[4][5] as well as Good Friday, commemorating the crucifixion and death of Jesus.[6] Easter is followed by a fifty-day period called Eastertide or the Easter Season, ending with Pentecost Sunday. The festival is referred to in English by a variety of different names including Easter Day, Easter Sunday,[7] Resurrection Day and Resurrection Sunday.

If Christ is dead, I have wasted my life. If risen, you have wasted eternity.

The resurrection of Christ and ascension into heaven.

I meant from a practical point of view, not what actually happened (or supposedly happened). For instance, the spirit of Christmas is giving. So what is the overall theme of Easter?

Then perhaps we should have held off celebrating it until November this year:

I had a dream, but alas it was a ....

Passover was the ability to throw off the old and embrace the new.

Israel threw off the bondage of Egypt. The Church threw off the bonds of the Law.

Seems to me the bonds of servitude have nothing to do with Easter.
