Hello Civ Fans! This is my first story here and I don't know how it'll turn out but I'm hoping it will be a good read. After reading many stories on this forum I think I know what to do now. Anyway lets get on with things!

Civ: Germans
Difficulty: Monarch
Map Size: Large
Barbarians: Random
Civs: Random

Bismark looked over the plains on top of the mountains he was put upon, there he saw a perfect place for a City. It had fresh running water, plenty of wheat and cattle and forests. It was an ideal place for his capital (Berlin) and it would grow rapidly. Berlin was formed and he sent his worker to work irrigating the surrounding land and mining resources. His first task was to defend the city. Out came 2 warriors and 1 was sent straight away to explore hidden terain. Not too long after he came with news of other cultures not that far away.

"Leader, I have news. We have made contact with both the English and French Civilizations". After this news I held a meeting with my advisors.

"Sire, we have to talk to them, they have knowledge that's far more advanced than ours, maybe we should trade with them?"

After thought and a lot of bargaining we aquired Ceremonial Burrial and Alphabet from the English and Horseback riding from the French for just Bronze Working and Warrior Code.

Feeling the need to expand Berlin produced a Settler and a new City that went by the name of Lezpig was formed. This City will quickly build a Barracks, a Temple and a Granary and then will be used for churning out Milatary units to support my large army.

Not long after (pushing the Science rate to 100%) our Scientists discovered the secrets of Masonary and Iron Working. This was great as it allows the deadly Swordsman to join our army but the only problem was we had no Iron. Studying the known World we found that the nearest source of Iron was right outside the borders of French City Lyons. We had to be quick and soon a settler was made and hurried down to the Iron. The City of Hamburg had been established. Hamburg was not situated perfectly as we needed the Iron so it won't grow into a huge, thriving metropolise but enables us to move ahead of our rivals with milatary force. After this about 15 swordsmen were built, reinforcing our dominance.

News of another tribe, the Americans reached us. They were a backward Civ but had quite a bit of gold. We decided to trade Construction for 220 gold, our kitty was building and we had a strong army. Our rivals were getting jealous and it won't be long before the first bloodshed...........

A lot has happened since I wrote the first part, here it is........

The Americans had lacked research and their leader, Abraham Lincoln decided that he wanted to catch up with the other civs. He sent me a telegram demanding that I hand to him the secret of horseback riding. Thinking about this I looked at how far he was behind (technology wise) and he lacked amongst others horseback riding and iron working which meant that he had no horseman or swordsman. If I turned his demands down he would probably declare war, and that's what he did. I wasn't really worried because of the lack of milatary power he lacks.

Anyway Licoln made the first move, he sent 3 archers and a warrior over to Hamburg, this was easily dealt with using a swordsman and a spearman. I, then retaliated and sent a strong counter-attack consisting of 7 swordsman and 3 horseman and razed San Fransisco and New York to the ground. I then went on to capture Washington and Boston, which both of these I kept. By this time Abe was on the run, fearing for his people he quickly established New York (again) right on the other side of the continent. Annoyed by this, even though I could have finished them off I agreed a Peace Treaty which also netted me 230 gold and all of his maps.

A plus point from this war was that my first leader appeared and with him I made an army of Swordsman. I put research up but it was not long until I had my greedy eyes fixed on something else, the French. Their cities were almost perfectly positioned and there were lots of resources and luxuries nearby. With my new army and another 20 swordsman I lined my troops on the French border, waiting for an excuse to attack, it wasn't long after that Joan of Arc rejected my demand for Marseilles and I declared war immeadiately. My huge force was too much for the un-prepared French and we worked our way through the empire, razing Lyons, Paris and Orleans on the way and keeping Chartes and Marseille. I recieved news from my generals

"Sir our rampaging forces have destroyed the French Civilization!"

The whole empire was celebrating and our Civilization entered a Golden Age.

Research and commerce rocketed and we were recieving around 70 gold a turn while still producing military units in almost every city. My Scientists discovered 'The Republic' and we switched Governments after a 5 year anarchy spell. This meant less money, as Despotism supported 4 units for free whereas the Republic only does 2 but an increase in food for every city, helping it to grow faster.

The French were gone, the Americans were recovering in a tiny peninsula which left us and the English as the two superpowers on the continent, tensions between both tribes were hotting up.

Short-Term Targets
1. Add about 5 more cities to the Empire.
2. Build Sun Tzu's War Acadamy.
3. Find un-known tribe(s)

Long-Term Targets
1. Destroy the English.
2. Finish off the Americans.
3. Expand Empire over-seas.

Any feed-back would be appreciated, good or bad!

I was woken up with good news from one of my messengers,"

" Prime Minister, the loyal citizens of Canterbury have pledged allegiance to us and want to be part of our Civilization".
That's great! Already a new city and I didn't have to fight or produce a new settler for it.

I was growing tired with Elizabeth; she kept on deliberately moving her troops and forming new cities just to block off my path to something new. When she formed Dover a turn before I was about to build on the site I demanded that she give me the City as it was within my rights. She refused and I declared war.

I've been wanting to gain control over the continent for ages and this was the ideal time for it. Also I wanted to weaken or even eliminate the English who were my main concern. An army of Swordsman backed up with several legions of Horseman and more swordsman ran riot and we razed York and Dover to ashes on the floor. This was followed by the capture and razing of Oxford. There were lots of smaller English towns around their territiory but I went for the main one, their capital London. It was a harder battle than I had expected and when I lost my army things were looking bad.

News that the Americans and the English have signed a Military Alliance reached us but I wasn't that worried, afterall the Americans still didn't have horseman or swordsman and they were quite a way from me so I had nothing to fear and got back to trying to possess London.

A few seasons passed and finally I thought I was ready and moved in for the kill. My foces that consisted of 17 swordsmen, 9 horsemen, 4 catapults and 5 spearmen was too strong for the resisting English forces and London was ours! That too was razed to the ground.

In the mist of the battle a great leader was formed, he was sent back to Berlin to hurry the Hanging Gardens.

My attack focussed on London too much, the English struck back and took Canterbury, as it only had one spearmen defending the whole city. This didn't bother me and my barbaric forces claimed it once again. This time though it was razed as it was not really of any major significance.

After this myself and the English signed a peace treaty, I was going to with America aswell but they didn't offer me what I wanted so instead I got the English to declare war on them.

Letting the Enlish fight the war with the Americans I concentrated on expanding and developing the empire. Cities such as Frankfurt, Heidelburg, Munich and Konigsberg were formed and in all of my cities I developed the culture so that my territory could expand and I could develop mor of my land. In the end every City had at least a Barracks, Temple, Library, Marketplace and a Granary. I built wonders such as The Great Library, Heroic Epic, The Collosuss, The Pyramids, The Great Wall and Sun Tzu's Academy of War.

The German empire was a culture hotspot and it was no surprise when the citizens of newly formed London pledged allegience to us and joined our Civilization.

News of Englands' success in capturing American cities such as New York and Philidelphia reached us. They built Seattle right next to us which we quickly caught and razed. It was then built elsewhere where the English have now claimed it.

I've reached two targets by building the War Academy and addind another 5 cities to my empire, I've yet to discover new civilizations.

The English have been weakened and the Americans are almost non-existent. Everything is looking good for me and with 3 turns till we discover Gunpowder who knows?!

My advice is if you add another installation to the story, use the terms archer divison instead of archer or warrior divison instead of warrior. Also include quotes of people talking.

Thanks for that West German, hope this is what you meant!

I recieved great news from my advisors

"Prime Minister, we have successfully built the Forbidden Palace in Washinton!"

"Great news, our production should sky-rocket now!"

Also I recieved information from my foreign advisor

" Leader, the damn rotten English people have established Liverpool right on our border, keep a close eye on them".

" I will, reinforce Berlin with extra divisions of Pikeman, increase our defence. We will then upgrade these divisions to Musketmen as Gunpowder is discovered".

As the discovery of gunpowder came there was a mass rush in all cities to build the units, everyone wanting their own share of the new technology. This discovery was quickly followed by Metallurgy and Military Tradition, enabling us to build cannons and cavalry.

" Great news noble one, said our Military Advisor. We will now build great forces to control the world and expand to far places".

This was greeted with another telegram from my foreign afairs minister, " Sire, we have made contact with the Roman civilization!"

The Romans were pretty backward, not as strong as us or the English. They lacked in technology and seeing as they had a whole continent to themselves and weren't involved in any wars their empire wasn't that large either. Anyway I met Ceaser over a nice meal.

"What is this drink? Does it have a name?"

"Wine Emperor, we call it Wine"

"This is brilliant! I hear you have more of this?"

"Yes, locked away where no drunk can lay their hands on it"

" My people would love this, what may I give you for it?"

" I would settle for your World Map and let's say 100 gold?"

" Done my friend."

The conversation dragged on and I also introduced him to the Americans and the English for a bit of exra cash. I had no intention of going to war with the Romans and I saw them as trading partners (cash wise).

I was in the middle of my afternoon tea when I recieved a telegram from Elizabeth, it states

" Great ruler of the backward Germans, I Elizabeth of England am looking to make my nation stronger, with your help. I propose (for the safety of your people) that you hand us over the desired knowledge of Metallurgy and throw in 110 gold while you are there.
Yours Protectively
Elizabeth.

As you could feel I was outraged at her demands. I had almost destroyed her in the last war but let her off the hook. Why is she coming down on me like this? I sent her a reply back saying that there was no way that I would give way to her demands and taunted her threats, I got this reply.

" Annoying clown!
I can see now that we're not going to get on with each other and as we are both stuck on the same continent this could be a bit of a problem. I hearby send you this declaration of war not in spite, but for the future of my Superior empire. Don't take this personally.
Elizabeth.

Game on! She ahd her chance. The next Great War is about to begin!

P.S West German, is that what you meant?

Preparation for the Battle

I summoned my advisors

"Men I don't know about you but I want this War over with as quickly as it started. We will summon 15 divisions of Cavalry, backed up with 5 divisions of Cannons, followed by the odd divsion of Swordsmen and Riflemen to sweep the English empire, any objections?"

No response was heard.

My troops were ordered down to Cantebury, my first target, I would than advance through the empire once Cantebury had fallen.

The War

After rallying my men for battle I decided before I went in to expand my teritory to the West, the city of Nuremburg was formed. It was primarily to be used as a defensive post, it was set on high land to make it difficult to be caught, it would also be used to heal my troops in battle, but it did have potential. Silks and Spices were close by and there was a good supply of Iron in the borders and Saltpeter to the East once we expand.

Anyway, it was time to attack. The first troops on the front-line were Cavalry, it didn't take long before we easily razed the first City to the ground. Now thatr we had all our troops positioned in strategic areas my plan was about to be tested.

All was looking good, my generals reported back

"All is going well Sir, Liverpool, Dover and Cambridge have all been razed to the ground thanks to our superior Cavalry!"

"What about casualties?"

"None to report of"

"Brilliant! Continue the movement men"

After a season of waiting a Great Leader came knocking on the Palace door

"Noble Lord, I have been instructed by your Generals to report back with news of the battle."

"OK, how's it going in Britain?"

"Very swiftly, our Cavalry divisions are no match for the English Spearmen and Swordsmen. We have now razed Coventry and Brighton and captured Warwick and Nottingham."

"Excellent, I'll send a telegram to the Generals instucting them what to do next. By the way you can go over to Berlin and help finish Newtons' University."

"Very well my Lord."

The comletion of Newtons' University sparked day and night clebrations all over Berlin. While this was going on I sent a messeage to my Generals on English soil.

" Men,
This is your leader, Bismark speaking. I am delighted with the news of the progress you'e made. It's very good to see you are obeying strict orders and they are working well. I now have a new request that will test your Leadership skills to the limit.
This seems a tall order but I want you to eliminate the English off the Continent in 10 years, this will be hard as our intelligence states that they have another 10 cities that we know of on the land to destroy.
I will be sending reinforcements, another 10 divisions of Cavalry should be enough.
I'm wishing you the best of luck and for you to all have a safe, crushing victory."
Bismark

My men responded well to the new scheme I had adopted and we managed to raze Hastings and York and capture Leeds days after they recieved the telegram!

By now the English were in full retreat, they had nowhere to hide, they started the war, I'm finishing it. We later razed Newcastle, Birmingham, Reading, Norwich, Oxford, Seattle and Philadelphia, they were wiped off the Continent. They were not finished though, we couldn't see any sign of them on the world map and we didn't want them setting up new like the Americans. I contacted Elizabeth

" Back-stabbing ruler of the Germans, what brings you here?"

" Elizabeth, my people are growing tired of this war and we don't want to see your empire destroyed (what a lie!), we are offering you a Peace Treaty for the sake of both of our Civilizations."

"What are the terms to this treaty, Bismark?"

" Well, aswell as the war being stopped, I see it fair that you also give us your World Map and 130 gold for the sake of your ruined empire and it's people, what do you say?"

"Very well, I agree. Watch it though and don't play any dirty tricks!"

Thankyou, great Elizabeth, that will be all for now."

The English had built Exeter and their Capital, Richmond on an Island. Immeadiately 3 Galleons were sent, all consisting of Cavlary. The battle had been delayed but I was not finished yet!

Stay tuned, things are getting interesting!
