View Full Version : i miss shaka.... will the zulus ever appear in V?
kpi Jun 19, 2012, 07:21 AM So I had a quick run through of CIV 1 the other day, and i really love the little zulu jingle that plays during diplomacy and when they build wonders. also I miss when Shaka threatens you with words BACKED BY NUCLEAR WEAPONS!!! It got me kind of thinking, why aren't the zulus in V? they were certainly in I & II
Necrotaur Jun 19, 2012, 08:01 AM I, too, miss the Green Destroyer.
Ethiopia, being a defensive civ I guess, just won't be the same.
Esoteric Arcane Jun 19, 2012, 07:23 PM I was curious of why he was left out too, the zerg of Civ, but since Im usually at war with someone for no reason anyways, figured he had nothing to really add lol
aceflamingo23 Jun 19, 2012, 08:15 PM i hope so holmes it be real trife the way their aint no black people in civilization 5.
dexters Jun 19, 2012, 09:43 PM I want him just for consistency as he's been there since the first game.
I suspect DLC.
But as I'm not familiar with the history around the Zulus, one of the critiques I've read is that the Zulus were technically not an independent civilization and their main claim to fame was defeating the British.
cccv Jun 19, 2012, 10:03 PM They'd be a profitable DLC, and I imagine there's roughly a 0% chance that a company would choose not to do something profitable (profit would certainly overrule concerns about there being "enough" African civs, or the Zulu not being a "real" civ, or anything else someone might object about), so yeah, I'm sure we'll see 'em eventually.
Squibbon Jun 19, 2012, 10:22 PM But keep in mind the Zulu were as much of a civ as the Iroquois were (and the were). They would make a legitimate civ. But if they add the Zulu, they should have a Scramble for Africa scenario.
Civciv5 Jun 20, 2012, 04:03 AM I don't miss that nuisance,he did nothing good for history and did no great things other then a few battles.
By the way,the Zulu do not deserve to be called an empire or civilization for the same reason.
Zimbabwe or Kongo would be a better choice.
RohirrimElf Jun 20, 2012, 08:52 AM montezuma, attilla, alexander and i bet some more are agressive enough. So i cant say i miss them. I find civilizations which are less agressive earlyer on harder to face.
Verbosity Jun 20, 2012, 03:27 PM Uomo Universalis (which is Building Made Fun + Fill the Map + Play the World) has Shaka - and he rocks. I used Steam to download their real world map which has a very large map, and had no one near Shaka... a little bit of a disappointment.
The new expansion has several of the cultures in Uomo Universalis, like Ethiopia and Austria. While I like what the Gods and Kings chose to do with Austria, I still prefer UU. Of course, if UU worked with Civ NiGHTS I would be ecstatic.
I am mixed about the change over to Steam Workshop... I liked how the update notices worked in the mod menu before, and how you could navigate the lists - but I suppose I will get use to Workshop. Unfortunately, UU is not there - so you have to download it from this site and manually install it.
Oh, and there may be some mods that have just the culture independently available - I have seen a few on Workshop, but didn't look.
Of course, if you are looking for the visual goodies of yore... well, there are limits to the mods out there. No 3D animated leaders, just pictures.
