View Full Version : TSG with G&K
leif erikson Jun 23, 2012, 06:09 AM We are planning to have our first G&K TSG on 15 July. The poll allows multiple answers to be checked, please select only one Civilization and one VC.
edit - just so you know, voting is public, so everyone will be able to see who you voted for. The poll will be open for 14 days (closes July 7th)
Please let us know which Civilization you would like to start the TSG games with. Also, please select a preferred victory condition you would like to see in this game.
Please also let us know whether you have G&K, plan to purchase it soon or will avoid the expansion pack.
Thanks.
Gamewizard Jun 23, 2012, 06:39 AM I voted for a Swedish Diplo Victory. I want to see how powerful (or not-so-powerful) the Nobel Prize really is. Also, Emperor level please.
kcd_swede Jun 23, 2012, 09:37 AM Anything but domination... it would be good to have a game that goes deep in the different trees to start with. Get a little taste of more different stuff this way.
BTW: I do not have it and will not get it until the jury is out whether its worth it or not. :scan:
Monthar Jun 23, 2012, 04:31 PM I agree with kcd, that's why I voted for a science victory. I too think Emperor would be a good level for this first game.
I voted for the Maya to see just how well their UB will help with a science victory. Plus to see how the long count's free GP might mess with getting plenty of GSs.
If the Netherlands gets more votes for this, make sure it's not a science nor diplo victory, because it's very easy for them to remain friends with everyone the entire game. Couple that with their ease at making lots of money and they have no problem getting RAs with everyone constantly. The one game I won with them I wasn't in any of the wars even though there were several warmongers in the game constantly fighting everyone else. I ended up going with a Diplo win when Spain had the space ship half completed before I even finished building Apollo. The real shocker was all 5 of the remaining AI's voted for me along with all my CS allies.
They not only moved the UN to the end of the tech tree, but you also can't vote for yourself anymore. So, even though the diplomatic victory comes a little later than it used to, it is a bit easier now if you're playing a civ that can maintain DoF's with everyone.
S.K. Ren Jun 23, 2012, 08:11 PM I voted for Byzantium & Cultural. I want to see how we can optimize religion for a cultural victory. Otherwise my vote would have gone to Maya & Science.
LTJG Perry Jun 23, 2012, 08:33 PM not gonna vote on game type, but getting it doesn't have an option for me so I'll just post it.
Will likely get before Christmas. And likely choose a few old-by-that-point TSGs.
FeiLing Jun 24, 2012, 12:49 AM Byzantium + Science. Probably the best way to experience the new techs and religion mechanic.
Banman Jun 25, 2012, 02:34 PM I agree with FeiLing, Byzantium and Science seems to me like a good combination of moderate advantage for the victory type, good way to take G&K for a spin.
metalmadt Jun 25, 2012, 06:48 PM I'ld like to try Sweden as I haven't have luck so far to try there UA.
Any victory condition but domination would do.
I'll try to post my result this time arounc, think I've made the same promess when Civ 5 just got out.
Ribannah Jun 26, 2012, 02:08 AM My vote goes to Ethiopia, the cradle of civilization. :)
avl8 Jun 26, 2012, 10:19 AM I think Prince or King is fine for a first G&K game.
And Byzentian Science game option is pretty good : we can enjoy a nice religion bonus while going for maximum RA capacity :)
Louis8k8 Jun 26, 2012, 11:57 AM Science Victory in King/Emperor.
Really, anything but Diplomatic victory. Every time I win a diplo game, I feel like I just won a really boring game where I played cowardly and spent loads of bribes =/
I am not really concerned with which civs to play as. I voted 2 + Maya. I really like maya and it might be my default civ when I play with my friends.
QuizMan Jun 26, 2012, 03:33 PM I voted for Carthage, but it needs a coastal type map. It looks an interesting choice with free harbours plus the ability to cross mountains.
I did not vote for a particular victory type as anything will provide a new challenge.
MadDjinn Jun 26, 2012, 06:21 PM I voted for a Swedish Diplo Victory. I want to see how powerful (or not-so-powerful) the Nobel Prize really is. Also, Emperor level please.
+1 - and make sure Austria is an opponent in the game :D
that'll make it more interesting and a better way to learn the new Diplo rules.
Monthar Jun 29, 2012, 07:49 AM For my 2nd choice, I think a Byzantium Cultural game could be quite interesting.
S.K. Ren Jun 30, 2012, 08:26 PM Looks like Celtic Science is our winner. Oh boy :D
leif erikson Jun 30, 2012, 09:01 PM :hmm: A bit premature?
There is a week to go. :shifty:
S.K. Ren Jun 30, 2012, 11:55 PM Oh? I could of sworn the deadline was tomorrow.
*looks up*
Oh, oops :P
Monthar Jul 01, 2012, 07:10 AM Any chance these first few games can be on one of the new map types? Based on the civ's UA and/or UUs of course. For instance if the Celts do win the poll, the Arboreal map would be nice. Several of the new map types, such as the one I just mentioned do have a random setting for continents, pangaea, etc.
Of course of the mistress of the free harbors pulls out a last second win, the Large Islands map would be great. Then we can all try to be like MadDjinn in his LP videos.
leif erikson Jul 01, 2012, 11:46 AM Yes, there is always a chance. Will have to see if I can hide the true identity a bit. Setting up Civ5 games for play is not always a simple task. The map editor features are not friendly and using an edited map requires extra checks to ensure all is ready for others to play.
All I can promise is to give it a shot. :mischief:
Need to experiment with the sdk, does it even work for G&K maps? Heard a rumor it did not yet? :dunno:
Monthar Jul 01, 2012, 01:13 PM I just tested creating several games on the Arborea map type. For the tests, I created games with Pangaea, Islands and Large Continents as the landmass type. All three only show that it's the Arborea map script, but not which landmass type was selected. The icon of the map script is always the same icon as the normal continents map.
In these tests it seemed more likely to get a coastal start on all but Pangaea. However, some Pangaea games did get coastal starts. Even on Large Continents I've seen starts that were far enough from the coast to not see any water. I've also seen starts on Large Continents that looked the same as the Islands start.
leif erikson Jul 01, 2012, 03:16 PM :thanx: That gives me some motivation to play around with it. :)
avl8 Jul 02, 2012, 11:00 AM Actually, 15th of July is very nice date for a GxK TSG. We'll have our practice before it. 2K will probably fix those annoying bugs. Or they wont?)
BuddhaBubba Jul 03, 2012, 05:28 PM I went for Maya and Domination (seems appropriate for the year 2012, eh?)
Also, I'd rather have Prince level of difficulty... it seems the AI has gotten a bit harder and king is actually hard for me, emperor would be crazy imho
S.K. Ren Jul 03, 2012, 06:32 PM Actually I would prefer the Tundra map type (described as a well forested tundra), I forget what it's called... Anyways that seems like more fun that just Arborea. You can make an Arborea type map with the right settings already.

I still can't get the DVD in The Netherlands, and the shops can't say when it will arrive, if at all.

Ribannah Jul 05, 2012, 03:09 PM Thanks. I'm not a big fan of webshops, but I'll give this a go.
WildeComputers Jul 10, 2012, 01:41 PM I went for Maya and Domination (seems appropriate for the year 2012, eh?)
Or saved until December. What better way to earn the Apocolypse Now achievement than on our last day. ;)
mike678 Jul 13, 2012, 09:18 PM Any word on what difficulty this gotm will be?
leif erikson Jul 13, 2012, 09:56 PM Don't usually say in advance, but for this time... :mischief:
It will be King difficulty. :)
mike678 Jul 13, 2012, 10:18 PM Thanks :P
