Whoda thunk it? The Onion (everyone's favorite satirical news source other than the Daily Show) predicted the future. Back in January of 2001.

http://www.theonion.com/onion3701/bush_nightmare.html

During the 40-minute speech, Bush also promised to bring an end to the severe war drought that plagued the nation under Clinton, assuring citizens that the U.S. will engage in at least one Gulf War-level armed conflict in the next four years.

"You better believe we're going to mix it up with somebody at some point during my administration," said Bush, who plans a 250 percent boost in military spending. "Unlike my predecessor, I am fully committed to putting soldiers in battle situations. Otherwise, what is the point of even having a military?"

On the economic side, Bush vowed to bring back economic stagnation by implementing substantial tax cuts, which would lead to a recession, which would necessitate a tax hike, which would lead to a drop in consumer spending, which would lead to layoffs, which would deepen the recession even further.

It's amazing how right on they were. See the rest of the article for a good laugh.. or cry.. depending on how you look at it.

I always remember hearing that from the 2000 election America was going in the 'wrong' direction.

The misery of peace & prosperity have finally been lifted from us. But, hey, I got $300 out of it...

The Onion is not a news source. It's made up.

It is indeed a sad state of affairs when one truly becomes the embodiment of the very satire that is made about them.

And Jeratain, love the new avatar, reflects my mood today. :D

Well, they are the most reliable source, since it IS true. Cowboys like Dubaya Bush just like violence and being powerfull, and preferable without doing something yourself....

I love satirical papers! I've never read this one, but the name rings a bell. There's being one going around Dublin the last two years called "The Slate". I don't expect anyone hear to have heard of it (except maybe gael), but it's being on the front page of various "serious" papers more than once with headlines such as "Shut it Down". I love a paper that can do that.

The guy who wrote that is a genius, amazing, it look funny but it isnt because it seem Bush behavior was well know before 9/11. When a clown can predict president behavior it is scarry.
