View Full Version : LMON2: Peaceful Domination
LordMongoose Mar 12, 2003, 02:09 PM Welcome to LMON2: Peaceful Domination. We will play using the RBCiv honorable rules, so no cheating or dastardly moves.
Hopefully, this will go better than the last SG I started, which I couldn't finish due to time constraints.
Rules:
No attacking cities -- at all -- not with units, not bombardment, not bombing, nothing. Military actions are to be taken against military units (including workers and settlers) and land improvements only. Civilian casualties are not acceptable. Even attacking a city that was once yours to recapture it is strictly forbidden.
Cities may be accepted as tribute during peace talks and cities may legally be founded in enemy territory (during war, of course, check up on the Cultural Push exploit for details and explanations of why being at war is required).
Thank you RBCiv for this variant, and more specifically Arathorn, who came up with the idea.
Civ: Open for debate. Preferably with either Religious or Scientific Attributes.
World Size: Medium
Difficulty: Warlord
Barbs: Roaming
All else: Random
Victory Conditions: All enabled, we only win if we Dominate without any attacking of cities; see above ruleset.
Version: PTW 1.21
Players:
Lord Mongoose
ravensfire
cgannon64 (bench)

We will not start until two people besides me sign up. Others are welcome to join until we have five people.
Ridgelake Mar 12, 2003, 02:53 PM This looks interesting. If I read the rules right, the only way that you can capture enemy cities is by culture flip. If you are seeking to win by domination, you might want to disable cultural victory.
If the Babs are not chosen for their cheap culture buildings, you might go for the commercial trait. You are gonna need a lot of gold to rush build in enemy territory.
Question, is starving down a city allowed?
I'll have to look at the schedule to see if I can fit this one in.......
Arutha Mar 12, 2003, 03:10 PM The other way of capturing cities is through extensive use of propaganda, which is what Sirian did in that RB game.
LordMongoose Mar 12, 2003, 03:20 PM I was thinking Indians or Babs, myself.
Ridgelake, starving the city is not mentioned in RBCiv rules, so I'll assume it's OK. Can any Realms Beyond player reassure me of this?
And Arutha is right. The only ways to capture cities is culture flips and espionage. For once, the Intelligence Agency will do something...
Arutha Mar 12, 2003, 04:50 PM Yes, starving cities was ok. And it had better be ok, since propaganda cost and chance of success depend mainly on city size (the smaller the better).
LordMongoose Mar 12, 2003, 05:08 PM Pillaging Explorers. Now THAT'S starving a city for you. Good for when you're building up cash for an espionage attempt.
cgannon64 Mar 12, 2003, 08:36 PM I'll gladly sign up. Problem is, I'm at 1.14f. I might be able to get my PBEM and my SG to patch in unison, but I'll have to check...
If I can, I'm in. Always up for a challenge. I'm happy the difficulty level is low though - anything higher then Monarch would be too hard.
EDIT: I think the best way to do it is to starve and then try to CF or Propaganda. Seemed to work best for Sirian. :)
Sirp Mar 12, 2003, 08:49 PM I'm not sure that 'Peaceful' is going to be the best way to describe how this game will turn out :)
Still should be a fun variant, though I think it's the kind anyone would only want to play once....
-Sirp.
LordMongoose Mar 13, 2003, 02:54 PM Call it "No-Attacking-Cities Domination." RBCiv called it Peaceful, though. I devoured Sirian's report of Epic 13. I practically have a shrine to Sirian and Sullla on my computer.
cgannon64, I eagerly await the light from you, be it red or green.

Patience will defnitely be a virtue on this one...:scan:
Sirp Mar 13, 2003, 03:22 PM RBCiv called it Peaceful, though
I thought that RBCiv called it "Passive Aggression" or somethin...
ravensfire Mar 13, 2003, 03:27 PM LordMongoose - sounds like an interesting variant - I'd like to join.
LordMongoose Mar 13, 2003, 04:48 PM I'd like to have you.
LordMongoose Mar 13, 2003, 04:49 PM Eh, Peaceful Domination, Passive Aggression, I'm too lazy to check ;) .
cgannon64 Mar 13, 2003, 08:22 PM My PBEM is ready to patch but unfortunately my SG, which has Europeans, is not. However, that game is a few days away from being done, so do you think you could put me on the bench until I'm patched? :)
widdowmaker Mar 13, 2003, 09:33 PM Im in. IF you will let me. I promise not to mess up like i did before. Dont seem tooo winable though. We would need to expand SUPER FAST and have godly ammounts of cultre(spl?). Then we have to find ways to make the enemy want to join us wich is hard in itself. I sugjest a Religious, Scientific civ. Sci would get us libarary cheaper and religion gets temples cheaper. And one turn anarchy makes it easy gov change so we have less downtiem on cultre. What happens if we end up winning a culteral victory? I sugjest you tunr that one off. 20,000 points and we win.
EDIT: The intel agency is good for spies. Get one in and you know HOW many troops they got but not WHERE. Steal plans and you know their trrop placement. With rails tat is worthless but knowing HOW MANY of each thing he has is vital. You dont want to go to war with a civ and find out they got 30 ICBM's ready to nail you to the wall.
ravensfire Mar 17, 2003, 09:33 AM Any word on this one yet?
LordMongoose Mar 17, 2003, 02:00 PM I'm still waiting for either a go from cgannon or another person joining.
Aggie Mar 17, 2003, 02:08 PM This is a great variant and it deserves more players! Sadly I don't have 1.21... (Europe..) But good luck with the game ;)
LordMongoose Mar 17, 2003, 04:00 PM Thanks Aggie.
C'mon! With an endorsement like that, who can resist?
LordMongoose Mar 19, 2003, 08:14 PM Canceled due to lack of interest from the community (shame on you!)
Bam-Bam Mar 27, 2003, 08:20 AM LM--I would have loved to try this variant, but alas, I just got my PTW last night...
If you are still interested in hosting this game, I would love to throw my hat in the ring.
