Which faction actually won the game? I mean, according to the books or any other sources.

I know for a fact that the spartans didn't make it, as is evidenced by the voice over that plays when a takyon field is built. It talks of the fall of sparta.

As for clues as to who was actually dominant, the voice of planet video is narrated by Zkharov. This of course doesn't prove anything, but still...

I dont know myself, as only having read the first book(I'd love to read the others if I could find them online) but from what I can deduce I think that prehaps the beleviers do? Not quite sure.

I sort of thought that the Gaians led the Ascent to Transcendence.

No I remember thinking while playing the game that they didnt make it, althought I dont know what alluded to it. I swear this is one of the best Games with a story behind it. :goodjob:

That's what led me to believe that the Gaians transcended.

No. Remember, if some other faction beats you to the Transcendence victory, the blurb at the end basically details how the "winner" is gracious to you, and puts you in charge of rebuilding Earth. (note: I never have lost the transcendence victory, I just rad the .txt file with all the backstory items on it).

At any rate, I don't know who "officially" won, but I do know that the Spartans killed Captain Garland. Either that or the guys from "Final Fantasy" stowed away along with Morgan.:lol:

By the way, I just happened to think...Is the Garland Crater the crash site of the Unity's main body? I mean, first of all, it's named after captain Garland, who was still on board the ship as it jettisoned the escape pods, it was on a crash course with the planet, and you get more minerals in cities built in the crater (possibly salvaging the remains of the Unity's hull?)

According to SMACX, Garland Crater is just a name...The Unitty crash site is a totally different place!:D

The books were not nearly as good as they could have been. I wouldn't consider them a canonical story.

I read two of the three books. The game's back story is far superior when compaired with the books. The game's story had more, i guess you could call it atmosphere-even though Planet didn't really have one;)

IMHO the books pailed in comparison with the story that came with the game.

In the books, the useage of the Planet Busters makes planet backlash, and so the Believers and Hive were desatroyed. Lal and Pria take some settlers to go settle in that base you mentioned, to start over again.

I don't know who won, but I do think the gaians destroyed the spartans, based on some fragment I remember from a voice-over...

Yes I think you're reffering to the mind worm attack againt Saprta clip when you build teh Citizen's Defense force, the source of the line is somthing like "the fall of sparta"
