View Full Version : NEW!!! Telgars Forest and Jungle Terrain
Telgar Mar 24, 2003, 12:50 AM Balrog asked me to make a new forest to replace the jungle in his Fantasy Empires Mod. In the process of doing so, I decided to release new forest grasslands and plains forest pcx files. These files replace the forest plains, forest grasslands, pine forests, and jungle. After some long hours pushing pixels around, here are the results:
EDIT: I have deleted the previous screenshots and replaced them with ones from the game. The first ones were made in the Civ III Editor and everything was kinda jumbled together. NOTE: There are still some forest scenes that are not showing because of terrain type/position, So if you're interested in the files, download them and check them out in an actual game. Check out screenshots here:

aaglo Mar 24, 2003, 03:02 AM Wow.
Those forests look really good! The jungle is pretty ok, but I'm not sure about the pine forest. They don't look like pines - they look like spruces ;)
Fëanor Mar 24, 2003, 03:02 AM looks nice , you combined it with warpstorm watercolor terrain right?
Ossric Mar 24, 2003, 05:23 AM not bad, not bad at all...
now i only have to check how it looks with Snoopy's terrain
Yoda Power Mar 24, 2003, 07:04 AM cool, maybe you could make a version where swamp replace jungle? alot a mods could use this.
aaglo Mar 24, 2003, 07:24 AM Oh yes, IIRC, there were no jungles in middle-earth (atleast not near to the locations the events took place). So Swamps could be useful.

Thanks Feanor, In the screenshots I am using Warpstorms watercolor terrain yes, but the forest/jungle/pine scenes are neutral. They can be used with any terrain. There is no underlying terrain in the scenes, whichever terrain you are using will be used. Keep the comments coming! :)

kring Mar 24, 2003, 12:27 PM Great graphics. I will download it later when I have the time.
The Warmonger Mar 24, 2003, 08:24 PM I just downloaded your forest/jungle terrain and checked it out in a game of Civ III and I must say that this is some truly awesome graphics. The forest looks really realistic. Great Job! :goodjob:
cavemanf16 Mar 25, 2003, 12:24 PM I think the forests are disproportionately large when compared to the mountains.

Everything in the game is disproportionately large compared to everything else. After all you have units running around big as cities. :D
Keep those comments coming! :)
Telgar Mar 25, 2003, 07:32 PM Thanks to everyone for their kind comments, I do appreciate it. :)

Hi Colonel, yes do let me know once you check it out in a game what you think of it. Id like to know what people think of it in an actual game of Civ III. Thanks, :)
Balrog Mar 27, 2003, 04:24 AM Nah Im here of course! I was just busy to work on the mod + lot of work in real life....
I really like this forest Telgar! Keep up the good work! :)
Telgar Mar 28, 2003, 12:48 AM Thanks, Im glad you like the forest Balrog. Stay busy, but not too busy to have a little fun now and then, see ya laters. :)

aaglo Mar 28, 2003, 01:04 AM Telgar - did I already tell you, that these forests look ama-ZING!
Definitely they have a Robin Hood / LOTR -feel to them :)
Balrog Mar 28, 2003, 03:53 AM :) Telgar, will you make a mountain version as well?
Btw I think Im using Womoks mountain forests and jungles but Im not sure. Check it out in the Terrain dir in the FE folder. I think its the best mountain gfx available for Civ3.

I could probably do that Balrog. I guess I should make one for jungle mountain/hills and forest mountain/hills. Actually, my thinking was that most people here use whatever mountain/hills they prefer and that I wouldn't be able to match up mine with what they were using. I dunno, maybe I could get some input here on what mountain/hills pcx file everyone would prefer to use. Then I could make it from that.

P.S. By the way, are you using the new files posted in this thread? The forest in this thread is a bit better than the one I sent you for F.E., I worked on it a little more. Just curious. :)
Balrog Mar 29, 2003, 03:36 PM Well I think the mountains what Im using in FE are the best looking! If im correct they are from Womoks terrain set.
Nop Im using the what you sent me, but I will add this to FE 3.0! :)
unscratchedfoot May 24, 2003, 11:15 PM  nice graphics
I combined this with the womok mountain forests & mountain jungles for a sweet-looking game. It sure beats that melted watercolor look most people seem to dig.
Here's the link to the mountains I coupled with these graphics: http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?threadid=24121
Ossric May 25, 2003, 03:54 AM i also use womoks mountains (gray ones). I never understood why so many people like the watercolor terrain. Doesn't look real at all....
Amenhotep IV May 25, 2003, 07:16 AM This reminds me a bit HOMM garphics... nice :)
amirsan May 25, 2003, 09:30 AM Some pics please... Sounds like it realy good but I like to see it before I download :D

Did any airliners go down in those forests?
Jason The King Jun 10, 2003, 09:33 PM lol.
no, but i figured out the problem, lol. Im a dumbass, it was the mines that was the problem not the forests.
Loving this forests! wish you would continue your great work with mountains and hills.
I dont know how to make these, or I woudl help you. I would suggest makikng hills, so when they are in desert, they are brownish instead of a green that sticks out ;).

Hiya Cpt Kaos. Well, to be honest I haven't been doing anything with Civ 3 graphics lately. I do have an Interface Mod (which needs to be finished, but is mostly finished) on one of the pages of this forum. Check it out if you haven't seen it. It's called Colors n Chrome. I was thinking of doing the mountains and other terrain, and may do that. Now that they are going to release another expansion for Civ 3, I may get interested again. Im happy you liked the Terrain Mod. Thanks for your comments. :)

Minstrel Dec 31, 2003, 03:16 PM I just noticed this Graphic pack, and I gotta say this is the best forest terrain I have seen on this site bar none. It looks great in the game. I have C3C conquests and it works great. Very realistic. I love it. Thanks!
Morfos Feb 15, 2004, 01:27 PM It tends to mix well with Womak's terrain.
Corey Feb 16, 2004, 06:59 AM Nice!
