I am curious to know if there are others like me on these forums that have an intrest in the ancient world. So I ask you to post some pictures of your favourite ancient world site. I have a particular fondness for Angkor Wat. Although I have never been to see it I hope to get the chance one day.

Gotta be one of the most beautiful ancient sites, because of its setting:

Oh yes that is very beautiful.

I have seen that picture once before. Are they Aztec or Incan ruins? I also have South America on my list of places to visit, inparticularly the Yucatan Pennisula. I am also most intrested in the Mayan, Incan and Nazca civilizations.

Incan ruins. When the Spanish conquered Peru, it became a secret refugee camp totally undiscovered by westerners until recently.

About Macchu Picchu:
That's my favourite too, but the latest reports suggest it was nothing to do with secret refugee camps for Incans escaping for Spaniards.
Instead, a snip I saw on the BBC in the last week said that it was most likely a holiday home for the Emperor. Very similar to Hitler and his home in Berchtesgarden.

Alright...that's interesting. The docs usually say it was a refugee city. TBH, I'd hope they were right, 'cause it added to the romance ;)

- I agree, I was a little bit disappointed when I heard, but it is still the most beautiful IMO.

The temple of Bacchus at Baalbak. Roman architecture meets eastern architecture. I'd love to visit.
