View Full Version : Question: Peace treaties and human players PROBLEM
deefoo Mar 30, 2003, 05:41 AM Does anyone know why in multiplayer, both hotseat and PBEM, that a peace treaty must be declared between human players for trading to occur, Otherwise the two civilizations are at war? For computer civilizations, peace is automatic and trading is immediate after initial contact.
On top of all that, at the end the 20 turns if peace treaty is not renewed, game crashes.
maverick_mw Mar 30, 2003, 12:39 PM Hmm, never heard of that before. I play a few PBEM games, and play hotseat all the time, but have never heard of this. What version are you using?
When I play hotseat, peace is the default for the human players, same as in normal single-player Civ3. On hotseat though, some deals seem to never expire, whereas some expire every 20 turns.
For example, in one game I was giving my friend oil and he was giving me iron. I gave him oil uniterrupted the whole game, but the iron deal kept on cancelling every 20 turns. Weird.

maverick_mw Mar 31, 2003, 12:39 PM I would have thought that for hotseat everyone uses the same preferences. Anyway, its a good suggestion, I'll have to check.
deefoo Mar 31, 2003, 03:55 PM ill check out the options, im using the latest updates by the way, thanks for your help...

Although, it does seem to reason that some players may wish to automatically renegotiate treaties, and others would not... Perhaps Firaxis built that into the hotseat game.... :hmm:
maverick_mw Apr 01, 2003, 01:29 PM Still, this doesn't solve deefoo's problem.
Deefoo, Are you using Windows XP by any chance? I know of a few XP-specific bugs that can be easily solved by using the compatibility mode.
deefoo Apr 01, 2003, 02:37 PM yeah, using XP, and i tried to set it to 98/me mode, but then the graphics get all screwed up.... also, i took away the visual themes.... but i still get crashing at the end of the peace treaty...
maverick_mw Apr 01, 2003, 04:28 PM I use WinXP too, and used to have some crashing problems, but I find that setting the Compatibility Mod to Windows 2000 seems to help (no other settings, just 2000).
Its not perfect, but it certainly helps.
