I recently bought Romance of the Three Kingdoms VII for PS2 and it got me interested in the 3 kingdoms period of Chinese history.

Its a pretty fascinating time in which the decline of the Han dynasty led to the breakup of China into a number of smaller kingdoms. Eventually a new dynasty was created out of the chaos, but it takes nearly 200 years. In the meantime you have a peasant rebellion by the yellow turbans, a murderous dictator in Dong Zhou, a number of betrayal and major battales which dwarf the numbers seen in the west at this time.

Plus you have a number of incredibly interesting characters and the interplay between them. The 5 tigers and Zhuge Liang, Cao Cao, the murder of Lu Bu by Dong Zhou over a woman, the manipulation of and eventual murder of the last Han emporer, etc...

Anyway, just wanted to point out that there is other history than WWII. I really enjoyed reading more about a time period of which I really had no prior knowledge.

Also, it's Dong Zhuo, not Dong Zhou... ;)

Some parts of it are probably simply fiction. I know some characters are like never mentioned in the official histories, whereas some minor ones actually played a more important role in real history.

Oh, and it's the murder of Dong Zhuo by his trusted lieutenant, Lu Bu, due to a ploy by a Han loyalist. Not the other way round...

Did you read the books?

Even I can't read Chinese, despite being Chinese... ;) Except for manga...
