I should not be allowed to say the following things about America (http://www.theonion.com/onion3912/i_should_not_be.html)

Is there any better satire than The Onion?

I saw this as more of a political article than humor. Sorry, your majesty! :p

The Onion is always humor, rarely funny.

Apology accepted... I shan't hand you over to the Darkshadian's for judgement.

I read a serious article about the same thing at the BBC's site.

The Onion has been decidedly less funny the past few weeks.

It's much funnier when they aren't so obviously biased in their joking.

Blowhards be damned, that was the just the dose of reality internet I needed.

PS- just naming this thread the way you did guarantees it will be clinically closed and or deleted if not moved to humor, soon enough.

Yeah, God knows a joke doesn't belong in humor & jokes forum... damn censorship.

I agree with the Onion's decline, though not for the same reason. There is only so long that rampant cynicism, sarcasm, and a touch of absurdity can take you. Its gotten predictable.

Hmmm - did you begin to be of this opinion when, perhaps, a new administration took power, and thus the skewering is no longer of Clinton??

Classic Onion Headline: Bush Elected President, Tells Nation "Our Long National Nightmare of Peace and Prosperity is Finally Over."

Classic Onion Headline: Bush Elected President, Tells Nation "Our Long National Nightmare of Peace and Prosperity is Finally Over." Actually, that was the last article I found to be funny :p

But it was fresh back then, and there wasn't that much absurd about it. He really said he'd take the country in a new direction...

And contrary to popular belief, I voted against Bush, for Gore, and would have voted for Clinton if I could have.

I think perhaps we French do not understand satire as well as the anglo-saxons but we do have our moments.:)

Yes.
Election of Chirac was a good one.
Sadly, the best jokes are the short ones, and this one is five years long.
I bet it will begin to be tiresome long before its end...

It's good to see the US media have self reflection!

I read a serious article about the same thing at the BBC's site.
How do you know it was serious?

Because the violation of human rights is not our true interest here.
Shock! Horror! We are not in Iraq because of their violation of human rights? My faith in the political establishment, who repeately said this was about weapons of mass destruction, is shattered. I don't know how I will ever re-join mainstream society again...damn! apathy has taken hold...wait a minute...yes, I feel an urge to shout at protestors for not being patriotic. I'm back in the mainstream.

One of my personal Onion favorites was

"Man who actually needs Grey Poupon is unable to get it"

Quite funny actually that a European on this forum is flamed for basicly saying the same thing... >)
