View Full Version : Aggie vs Wildfire444
Aggie Apr 04, 2003, 11:43 AM Wildfire444 and I started our PBEM today.
These are the stats:
- Regent
- Domination and Conquest are no valid victory type
- We are at peace until 1000 AD. So Wildfire444 and me are friends until 1000 AD.
- I am the Babylonians
- Wildfire444 is the Ottomans
- Pangea map
Aggie Apr 04, 2003, 11:44 AM My starting position:

Aggie Apr 07, 2003, 12:57 AM He Wildfire! I still didn't receive your save. The one you sent was the one I sent you in the first place...
Aggie May 05, 2003, 05:31 AM Wildfire didn't post his starting position?
This game is very much alive. We are at turn 40 or something. I'm still peacefully expanding and researching.
WildFire May 05, 2003, 05:55 AM :p So I forgot to post it here. Will do that when I get home.
Aggie May 12, 2003, 03:26 PM Turn 55:
We meet! Wildfire's wounded warrior is save with me. We agreed to have peace until 1000 AD :)

WildFire May 13, 2003, 09:30 AM Whoa! Did not expect that! And again, I need to put more stuff here. He just got promoted too ;)
WildFire May 13, 2003, 02:00 PM This is the pic I promised for awhile ;)

WildFire May 14, 2003, 02:58 PM Wow, it looks like your winning by a lot. But thats just culture that is really affecting the score, already make a temple?
Oddly enough, at turn 57 I had 111, and you had 109
Aggie May 14, 2003, 03:14 PM Yes, culture indeed affects the score a lot. The powergraph is not in my favor at the moment. The Zulu lead there.
Volum May 15, 2003, 02:24 PM I will be folowinh this one cllllllooooooooooooooooosssssssssssseeeeeeeeeeeee
Aggie Jun 30, 2003, 01:03 AM Hmmm, this needs an update.
At turn 102 I discover Republic. Wildfire gets it from me for currency and 225 gold. He will pay the gold in parts.
I never noticed that he already entered the Middle Ages  Then again, I'm a republic and he has to go into anarchy :)
Wildfire is at war with Germany and hurting them. I will be at war soon as well.
The world map will follow.
WildFire Jun 30, 2003, 02:36 PM I get into the middle ages first and I get the 3 barb horsemen stacks! woohoo!
I already destroyed two German cities and got a MA with the Iroqouis so the Germans have to go through them to get to me ;)
The Ottoman military is coming along nicely now...
Aggie Jul 30, 2003, 02:00 AM @Wildfire: Just in time I re-read the conditions of our game. Domination and conquest are off the table
The only valid victories are therefore diplo ( :p ), space and culture...
I will update this open thread soon with a map and a powergraph.
We are both at war with the world. Within 20 turnsI expect that we will have only two civs left: the Ottomans and the Babylonians. It is about 500 AD now and we therefore still have something like 50 turns of peace  I have Cavalry while WF still has knights. I virtually destroyed the Zulu and Greeks. WF did the same with the Arabs. Now Germany and the Iroquois feel the power of the forces of Aggie and WF... :hammer:
WildFire Jul 31, 2003, 09:34 AM You just wait to I get my Sipahi's.
:D
anarres Aug 01, 2003, 08:34 AM hey, I can't find a link to your spoiler here...

Oops
I need to update it but this (http://www.danwilliamson.net/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=213) is it.
back from vacation btw.
Aggie Aug 19, 2003, 03:25 AM I entered the Industrial Age first :). We are now 25 turns from 1000 AD...
All other civs are as good as dead. Three of them have a city on a remote island (respawn must be on...):
This is a wm from a couple of turns ago:

anarres Aug 19, 2003, 07:28 AM Hmm, so large scale troop buildup now then? :satan:
WildFire Aug 19, 2003, 09:34 AM Well this isn't good. Someone hasn't entered the industrial age.
*scared*
Sipahi's don't do much vs infantry do they?
anarres Aug 19, 2003, 10:24 AM Well, I believe you need 3 IA techs to get Replacable Parts, and then you need to have the cash to upgrade your Muskets (Riflemen are a deviation from the tech line, and and unlikely tech choice for Aggie).
I guess 25 turns is about enough to do that. :hmm:

Sipahi with artillery support is unstoppable.;)

That could be true against the AI... but I'm playing against someone who isn't that stupid ;)
If I try to invade with sipahi's/artillery/infantry, he is just gonna draft, and of course bombard me back.

I'm currently playing against Aggie now. He's with the Ottomans and I'm with the Chinese. Since we are both on separate continent, it would be impossible for an invasion with raiders. Therefore, that leave me with only one option: my cavalries support by artilleries and infantries against his sipahis and whatever else he has waiting for me. Hopefully, I will prove once and for all that artillery is still the best unit against an intelligent human player.;)
WildFire Aug 26, 2003, 01:05 PM Well raider's are never good against Sipahi's. Now if you had attacked during the early middle ages...
Aggie Aug 26, 2003, 01:09 PM Moonsinger and I are not that far yet. We ARE still in the middle ages :) ehm :hmm: ehm

Like you said, Aggie is very smart!;) He already made sure that I won't be able to attack him before he gets Sipahi. By hiding in a continent far far away, he's safe until the end of the Middle Age. Since he is also scientific and getting free tech, what chance do I have to get Navigation before he gets Sipahi? Absolutely no chance at all!
Aggie Aug 26, 2003, 03:01 PM Yes, when you asked for the Chinese I immediately wanted continents :D
WildFire Sep 12, 2003, 03:55 PM Good game aggie, although I do regret not going to war against the other civs earlier.
Aggie Sep 13, 2003, 01:55 AM I can imagine that Wildfire :) But when I saw you at war I immediately responded, beause I then still had the idea that domination was allowed.
Stupid, me...forgot to post in this thread
Well, I prepared for war in 1000 AD and built up units as from 800 AD. In 680 AD I got Nationalism as free tech, which allowed me to draft units. Thoery of Evolution and Replaceable Parts followed in 960 AD. Unfortunately for me at that time, WF stole that ;)
Still I had enough units at the start of the war. 35 cavalry and 95 infantry. But I had to defend a lot of cities, since WF controlled two parts of the continent:
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads5/agwf1000ADmapbefore.jpg
So I decided to go for the western front first, which WF defended with Sipahi:

After this turn WF had a lot of war weariness. This did cripple his production and eventually forced him to concede.
