How many different military units does it have? CivPartisan Nov 14, 2000, 01:35 AM SC, I've played colonization and it is a pretty good game. I like it because it has a more economic twist on play than Civ I did. Colonization could use some improvements though...I'd like to see an upgrade in the direction of the Civ2 isometric view and customizable rules. I think that it would a great game for firaxis to tackle after CivIII. ------------------ John Valdez Modpacks/Scenarios/Review stellar converter Nov 14, 2000, 03:02 PM yes, i agree. i rarely ever play a militaristic civ 2 game, because im just not that good at it. i am quite interested, though, in economics. i love to build a monopoly. now you do have to use military tactics to win in colonization. thats one of my favorite things about it: it actually has a story line. thats one of my main turn-offs from civilization. it would be great if they came out with a sequel to colonization. ill start posting stratagy/economics/unit info up here. id still like to know how many people have actually played the game, though. stellar converter Nov 14, 2000, 03:14 PM Originally posted by Thunderfall: How many different military units does it have? in colonization, there are no technology improvements. (i like that too because it allows one to focus on more important things) there are 3 main land units. these are: infantry(foot sodiers); dragoons; artillery. the 2 infantry types can be veteran or non-veteran. it allows the same bonus as in civ, but is applied to them in a different way. ill explain this later when i have more time. (and when i find the little info card http://forums.civfanatics.com/wink.gif). artillery come in two steps: damaged, and full power. they are mainly used as defense(in cities and forts). the indians also have the same thing: foot guys, guys on horseback, guys on horseback with guns, and infantry with guns. now the naval aspect is more engaging than land (and better than civ i think). units are: caravel, merchantmen, privateers, galleons, frigates, and man-o-wars. (ill explain this later, but short on time.) one will also have several types of citizens, specialized or otherwise. this point is another thing i like about it. ill explain this later as well http://forums.civfanatics.com/smile.gif. to win the game you have to declare independence from your home country. this is the only way to win. you have to have a certain % for ind. and then the mother country sends a huge army and lots -o- ships to kill you. you usually have to get another major power to interpose in your favor. this takes a while. later CivPartisan Nov 19, 2000, 10:45 PM Thunderfall, Colonization is strategically different, but also fundamentally different than civ in a lot of respects...more accurately, it plays like a scenario rather than an independent game...the interface is substantially different...(even for civ1) but the graphics are reminiscent of Civ1. I would also say that the game play can be significantly shorter if you are not well equipt for a revolution...revolt in Colonization means war with the Imperial power (the mother country of your choosing in the first place). That's why I think it would make a good scenario for Civ 2... Did I miss anything Stellar? Correct me if I am wrong... ------------------ John Valdez Modpacks/Scenarios/Review stellar converter Nov 20, 2000, 07:54 PM it is definitely like a large scenario. the graphics are almost like civ1 but i like the way the battles are done more. i think it would be a good idea to make it into a scenario. raise some colonzation awareness http://forums.civfanatics.com/wink.gif. hey all you guys who like big games, there are 4 main civs in colonization, and 7 minor ones (injuns). no barbs. all this makes for a fun game. im goin to buy colonization on ebay. need an account though. do y0ou think they are all pirate copies from those guys who say they have a business? they are selling a ton o cds The Duke Dec 01, 2000, 10:18 PM i aggree that the economic model of colonization is pretty amusing. There are some i`d like to call barbarians. The Apache tribe ( they`re highly annoying ). the only thing i miss is more specs on the military units. phoenixcager Dec 08, 2000, 02:25 AM I'm currently playing a game of colonization. I take the English...at I think the 3rd difficulty level. Got bans on coats, rum, sugar, cigars, at war with the dutch, have about 6 cities (colonies?) It's been a few years since I last played it, but it's a good feeling to play it again. ------------------ Civilization Gaming Network (http://www.civgaming.net) & Forums (http://www.civgaming.net/cgi-bin/forums/Ultimate.cgi) EntirelyBS Dec 15, 2000, 09:47 AM When I take a two day break from CivII to play Colonization, I usually do a couple of things: fix the price of one item (say, silver or cigars), and then sometimes I'll modify the Indian layout (like 42 tribes of Aztecs and 42 of Incas). If I do the latter, I play the Spanish and see how long I can wipe them out (and the booty from each city is between 6000-12000 gold)... Civ2Veteran Dec 17, 2000, 02:11 PM I've played Colonization many times and think it is almost as much fun as Civ2. It does have some weaknesses though, the worst of which is the outdated combat system. It also has limitations on the total number of units allowed in the game that can prevent you from creating any more military units, which can be frustrating. Now I will only play it on the highest level and I always win, so it isn't as much fun. Too bad you can't play humans. Martin Schmidt Dec 18, 2000, 06:44 AM Civ2Veteran wrote: 'Now I will only play it on the highest level and I always win.' I play CivII always on the highest level and i always win . Sounds kind of similar , so this is not a disadvantage , comparing civII and colonization . phoenixcager Dec 18, 2000, 10:04 PM I wonder if it's possible for someone to modify the game so that multiplayer is possible... ------------------ Visit the Civilization Gaming Network (http://www.civgaming.net) & Forums (http://www.civgaming.net/cgi-bin/forums/Ultimate.cgi) Martin Schmidt Dec 21, 2000, 04:18 AM I dont think colonization is good for mp , because the main task is too run econemy and not to fight the enemies . CoolUserName Mar 27, 2001, 11:17 PM The dutch has the better bonus. phoenixcager Mar 28, 2001, 01:21 AM Well, I conducted a poll at civgaming.net in the colonization forum, and most people seem to agree with you, CoolUsername. http://forums.civfanatics.com/ubb/cool.gif ------------------ Visit the Civilization Gaming Network (http://www.civgaming.net) & Forums (http://www.civgaming.net/cgi-bin/forums/Ultimate.cgi) Flatlander Fox Mar 29, 2001, 04:17 AM I am a Colonization vet from many years ago. I still like the game, but being ANYBODY but the Dutch for me is ludicrous. I would love to see a Col 2 come out, but I think that too many gamers these days want something else from their games, not meticulous economy building. ------------------ It takes a big man to cry, but it takes a bigger man to laugh at THAT man. JoeBas Jun 24, 2001, 12:53 PM Allegedly, there's a bug where you're able to hold down the "Shift" key and click somewhere BELOW the 4 countries that you are given to choose from, and then be able to play as ALL FOUR... which would work for MultiPlayer, but you'd have to have 4! http://forums.civfanatics.com/ubb/wink.gif Never could get that to work though... JoeBas Az Jul 04, 2001, 04:49 AM I've just started playing Colonisation now....It a really great game! ------------------ <IMG SRC="http://www.virtuallandmedia.com/img1/flags-4/europe/fra.gif" border=0> Az <IMG SRC="http://www.virtuallandmedia.com/img1/flags-4/europe/gre.gif" border=0> kcsaff Jul 24, 2001, 08:16 PM Originally posted by Civ2Veteran: It does have some weaknesses though, the worst of which is the outdated combat system. The combat system isn't as bad as Civ1, though, since defeated dragoons are just downgraded to soldiers instead of being destroyed. That's a simple way of simulating combat damage that's more interesting than damage in Civ2. Although naval battles are very annoying; my privateers and frigates are always being sunk by inferior vessels. Too bad you can't play humans. If you don't mind all sitting at the same computer, you can. See my ".SAV hacking" thread ( http://forums.civfanatics.com/Forum19/HTML/000025.html ) for details. I'll bet people have seen this before. [This message has been edited by kcsaff (edited July 24, 2001).] |
