Have you played it? stellar converter Nov 21, 2000, 03:56 PM no CornMaster Nov 22, 2000, 09:24 AM It's a pretty good game. Pirates Gold! is better. You should try it out. It can get a little long to play though! ------------------ "I'm too out of shape for a long fight so I'll have to kill you fast" "The best meats' in the rump!" I AM CANADIAN! CornEmpire Index (http://www.cornempire.com) My Civ 2 Scenario Page. (http://www.geocities.com/thecornmaster/scenario/scenario.htm) oedo Nov 29, 2000, 03:16 PM Pirates is an awesome game. I´d even say it´s the best one ever released. But then I became a civ-fanatic. Like to see some screenshots? [This message has been edited by oedo on November 29, 2000.]
CivPartisan Dec 01, 2000, 06:22 PM I bought a triple pack of Sid Meier games, I got Rail Road Tycoon, Covert Action, and Pirates. All the games are good even though they are older versions by today's standards. I'm not really into flashy, new games; I prefer good games, games that stand the test of time! ------------------ John Valdez Modpacks/Scenarios/Review Martin Schmidt Dec 12, 2000, 03:43 AM I played this game several years ago on a C64 and liked it very much , the pc-version however has some drawbacks , thus i prefer to play the original with an emulator . Anyway get this game , without this being a success games like civ maybe wouldnt have seen the light of day . billyccccc Apr 27, 2001, 10:42 AM OOOOOH Pirates is the lovlyest game I every played I think. I played it on Amiga 500. I think the standard PC version is the same. BUT, PIRATES GOLD SUUUUCKS! Too ugly graphic. I got an amiga emulator and pirates but I can't save my games. Do you know how to do? I WANNA KNOW, I AM DESPERATE! GenghisK Apr 27, 2001, 03:26 PM Thunderfall, it's a shame you've not played ALL of Sid Meier's masterpiece. You don't deserve to be our administrator any longer http://forums.civfanatics.com/ubb/wink.gif Anyway, I've played Pirates! Gold on Mac. It's quite strange experience since its game concept was totally new. But unfortunately I admit it's quickly becoming boring when you play it too much (fight...assaulting boats...fight...flirting the governor's daughter...fight... <Lunch break> http://forums.civfanatics.com/ubb/smile.gif fight...). It's more repetitive than Civ. But it's a worthy experience though. PS: But I maintain that Thunderfall is not a true Sid's fanatics. A scandal! http://forums.civfanatics.com/ubb/biggrin.gif ------------------ Genghis K. Cilpot Oct 30, 2001, 09:38 AM Pirates was a breakthrough when it came!! I love it! Still have my amiga 500, and play it every once and a while... Genious concept! Someone should make a new version of the game, with the same old feeling of course. I love treasure hunting!!!!:D CoolLizy Oct 30, 2001, 09:56 AM Originally posted by Thunderfall I heard Sid Meier's Pirates! is a pretty good game. Have you played it? YES!!! It's by Sid Meier! Even if was terrible it would be SUPERB! Be wary of Pirates Gold!, though. Sid Meier didn't work on the project at all and it came out extremly buggy, so much so that it is just barely playable. There's a patch that will fix most of the problems, but it's still not anywhere near as good as the original! Achinz Nov 17, 2001, 08:58 PM What about the sequel Pirates 2 - only in beta but apparently playable - downloadable from Underdogs? FacelessMan-000 Dec 01, 2001, 10:22 PM can someone post an adress where I could download it in emulation? Tim Scheffler Dec 07, 2001, 03:30 AM I played my NES verison enough that enventually the cartridge gave out on me. I think its essentially the same as the commodore version based upon comparison. If you can't find the C64 emulator version look for a NESticle version, it saves very easily. One suggestion... get yourself a map of the caribbian, it helps. Tim Talar Dec 08, 2001, 04:05 PM I still play Pirates on my Amiga (just not very often). But the fact I still play it after all theese yeras I believe to be proof enough of how good the game is. Nahuixtelotzin Jan 03, 2002, 05:43 PM Pirates 2 is pretty good, I've actually really played 3 or 4 complete games. It's very similar to Pirates but adds some nice features (Personal Health in combat, Excellent replay!) Toecutter Jan 30, 2002, 10:50 AM Pirates is extremely entertaining, the amiga version with wave sounds ruled!:king: Here is a link to a guy, who has made a custom/modified version of the old pirates DOS version. pirates 2: http://www.geocities.com/Nashville/Stage/7473/pirat2pg.htm Thunderfall Jan 30, 2002, 07:58 PM Thunderfall, it's a shame you've not played ALL of Sid Meier's masterpiece. Actually I haven't played ANY Sid Meier games. ;) Civ2's programming was mostly Brian Reynolds' work and Sid was not directly involved in Civ3 also (at least it seems that way). He spent most of his time on SimGolf. Jimcat Jan 31, 2002, 08:19 AM I remember Pirates! from way back in the late 80's. It was a fun game back then. Maybe I should get a copy for the occasional break from Civ. Any advice on where to buy this game nowadays? Caligastia Jan 31, 2002, 03:53 PM Its been ages since I played pirates! Those old amiga games were great! I recently got "Cannon Fodder" going on an emulator but unfortunately had no way of saving games. I guess thats a common problem with emulators eh Billyccccc? gonzo_for_civ Feb 06, 2002, 11:18 PM Hehe, I would HATE Sid meier if it wasn't for the Civs and colonization. The reason is because me and my friend were 3 months into the programming of our new game: MiniGolf Tycoon. Then, out comes sid meier's simgolf. Lets just say, he has a rather large group of designers/programmers and me and my friend were only 2 people. I am not gonna let anything get out about our new project............ stay back SID!!!!!!! KingWilly Jun 18, 2002, 12:15 AM Pirates! was a great game. It was the first game I ever played on the C64 and I have continued to play it on other platforms. The Amiga version was awesome, but the PC version was almost as good. I still play it sometimes between games of Civ2 and Civ3. CivPartisan Jun 25, 2002, 12:45 AM Ahhh...Pirates! How could I forget that game...it was available in a triple action pack with Covert Action and RailRoad Tycoon a long time again...what nostalgia...what fun...You could really see where Sid was planning on going with his games as you look back on it... John KingWilly Jul 03, 2002, 06:39 PM Pirates was one of the first games I got for my C64. When I upgraded to an Amiga, I got it again. I did the same when I got my 486 PC. This game is great. After all these years, I still play it in between games of Civilization. It never loses its playabilty, as every games is different, with so many variables. This game is also good as an educational tool, learning geography around the caribbean. At least thats what I told my parents when they got the C64 version for me. GhengisFarb Aug 01, 2002, 04:00 PM Pirates! was a great game! I really hope they make do remake. covok48 Dec 28, 2002, 05:10 PM Pirates Gold! Is fantastic. I still keep my Sega Genesis around to play it. Of course, I haven't touched it in a year since it was too heartbreaking when I was too old (and forced to retire) trying to find my long-lost uncle! Finvola Dec 29, 2002, 10:13 AM It's been years since I played Pirates! I had it for my Nintendo. I can't remember if I owned it for my Apple IIGS also, but I did have some Submarine game by Sid Meier for that, lol. I've been meaning to buy a copy for the PC, I'll get around to it some day! Sir_Lancelot Mar 30, 2006, 02:19 AM I heard Sid Meier's Pirates! is a pretty good game. Have you played it? Be sure! One of my big addictions on the C64. Later I bought it for the Amiga, in some ways it was improved but the atmosphere and in particular the game controls was much better on the C64. I recently bought the Gold version for PC. I have not tried it yet because my laptop only got a 8 MB video card. But I fear I'll be disappointed, because I can't recall ever seen a C64 or Amiga game good on PC. Almost all PC games sucked until the mid 90's. The IBM compatible PC's and DOS and later Win95 was hardly capable of anything more than a text editor. But Pirates Gold for PC seems to be "new", so there's hope. CivPartisan Mar 30, 2006, 06:11 PM I had no idea that this game was ported to so many consoles and computers  That is so cool. Now, I am going to be looking for some old cartridges. Wish me good luck on that one. It's been a while since I've posted at CivFanatics...shame on me  I should show more enthusiasm in the future! May the tradition of Sid Meier live on in Pirates Gold! CivPartisan |
