Well I can see the Colonization forum is not as active as the other ones http://forums.civfanatics.com/ubb/smile.gif so I'm trying to change that http://forums.civfanatics.com/ubb/smile.gif
I've a question, concerning the probability of:
_ finding one of the 7 cities of Gold
_ discovering a fountain of youth
when you enter a lost civilization rumor...

Both are quite rare to obtain and sometimes I have to load 15 times the game before getting them. And last question, can we discover more than 7 cities of Gold http://forums.civfanatics.com/ubb/smile.gif It'd be great, and I'd be rich!
I'll finish with a notice. It's strange that even in harder level, computer opponents don't try to colonize the west side (pacific)
much. You can be sure to find everybody stuck on the east side. Strange, isnt'it?

I don't think there're more than seven cities of gold, it's just a represenation of a south-american legend.
Of course you have to reload 15 times (cheater!!! BTW that's not even so much!) as both rumours are supposed to be very rare!
I like the music that goes with the fountain of youth by the way. I used to keep listening the song over and over again and *then* quit the fountain of youth woodcut.

You know what? Last saturday and Easter sunday, I began a Colonization game on my Mac. It stuck me the 2 whole days. I reloaded 20 times at each rumors and I got 9 times the Cities of Gold. So I even ignore the "pitiful" let's search for treasure...
I really like the fountain of Youth sound too. The problem is as you cannot stack more than 8 people in the European dock, you have to wait to have entirely picked all the immigrants before attempting another FoY expedition... Unless the cash given by the cities of gold allows you to buy a brand new Galleon...

Or you just type <alt>WIN and send some man-o-wars to europe <IMG SRC="http://forums.civfanatics.com/ubb/biggrin.gif" border=0>
I think by the way that the biggest disadvantage of colonization is the limited amount of units available in the game. I would have liked to get a man-o-war in a legal way before the declaration of independence... Oh well..
I guess if you reload often enough, you'd get a city of gold or a fountain of youth with every rumor, BTW

Concerning independance, that was the 1st time yesterday I saw the warning "English will start independance" when they reach xx rebels out of a total of y" or something like that. What happen then if it happens, ie another nation becomes independant before you? You lose the game? (I've never tried that)

I can't remember, actually. It's been quite a while since I played the game. If I remember well, the other nation will indeed declare independence and will have to deal with europe. Think you can choose to help the nation, but you can't win the game anymore. But as I said...I'm not sure

Man you guys have some weird version of Colonization, i have the orginal from when it first came out, in the early 90's and i can have unlimited guys on the docks in europe, and with out using the menu cheat. i have no problem playing at the second highest level and still getting 5-7 wonders plus 1 sometimes 2 fountains of youth.

i don't know if it will work for your version but one of the text files that accompanys your games has all the menu options in it the help, civopedia and such.
but the one that says civopedia if your put a ";" infront of it you will get the cheat menu instead of the help files. i found it years ago in an old PcGamer magizine when the game first came out.

Well actually nothing will happen when they get independence (my computer crashed more often then but thats all)They gain independence for free and for nothing and the game goes on as if nothing ever happened

If another power declares before you, you lose a bunch or points on your final score. I think you get a 200% bonus if you declare first, 150% if you're second. Not sure about those numbers.

If you're interested in the 'names.txt' file I've made up a web page on it. At the moment its on CGN's web site, but the word is this is going to be closed down at any time. Still for now its still up.

'Names.txt' File (http://www.civgaming.net/citizens/landgrabber/col2gm1.html)

If you'd like to look over the web site try

I think the names.txt file just got taken down.

Is there another place I can see it?

The civgaming.net website is down because of hosting problems, but the Col2Project team have a temporary forum set up at EZboard.

It's at:
http://pub73.ezboard.com/bthecolonizationiiproject

You'd be able to catch Landgrabber there.

Sorry about that. The CGN host is gone. I'm currently transferring the web page to a new site. I'll try to get the 'names.txt' file up today (just for you). I'll post here again when its back up. Or you can check out the web site at:

<A HREF="http://netzero.homestead.com/jd3starsky2/files/col2/col2index.html" TARGET=_blank><font size=5>The Col2 Project</font></A>

**********************************************
Okay, I'm back!
I've uploaded (re-uploaded?) the names.txt page. At the moment it isn't linked to the rest of the web site, so the only way you can reach it is by clicking on the link below. Eventually you'll be able to get to it through the Resources section of the web site.

<A HREF="http://www.envy.nu/col2project/col2/col2gm1.html" TARGET=_blank><font size=4>Names.txt</font></A>

I've also made up a promotional screenshot of the Map Editor from the Col2 Project. (Actually, I cut and pasted the land units, but that's all! The colonies and villages, as well as the ships were all placed using the Editor.) If you're interested in this project please come to the forum (the link is provided in the message above) and join in the discussion.

<IMG SRC="http://netzero.homestead.com/jd3starsky2/files/col2/graphics/promo1.jpg" border=0>

Of course we'll have to come up with our own graphics, but this will let you see the progress we're making. If you'd like to try your hand at some graphics, or any other aspect of game design come on over and join the group.

Thank You for the names.txt, file, LandGrabber.

As for working on the project... I'm too much of a klutz to do anything right. Still, it looks good. Good luck and keep up the good work.

The most I've ever gotten in one game is 5 of the 7 cities of gold.

Father Time, you don't have to be a coder or an artist, if you can make intellgent suggestions, then you're our kind of people. Part of any good game is the ability to appeal to all types of players. I myself, like to concentrate on colony improvement, others like the conquest aspect, while others are more interested in the exploration part of the game. Input from all these kinds of players is important to getting a balanced game. One that appeals to all.

Come join the discussion, even if it's only to say "I like that idea!" or "No, that's not a good suggestion. Let's try something different." And if you have your own suggestion to make, so much the better! All opinions are welcome.

JoeBas, are there really 7 cities? I've never counted. I'm not even sure all the treasure trains come from the cities of Cilboa. Do they? I know there can be more than 1 Fountain of Youth (I think 3 is the most I ever got. And yes, there's no limit to the number of colonists that can appear on the docks in the Home Country. At least there isn't in the DOS version.)

JoeBas
Jun 25, 2001, 03:43 AM
I don't know if there's really 7 or not, just saying the game says you've found "one of the seven", and the most I've ever found in one game is 5 (and if there were another 2, either the other guys got to them first, or they were in atlantis http://forums.civfanatics.com/ubb/wink.gif).

3 is also the most fountain's I've got, and no, there was no limit on my docks either, I had lots of "little people" icons along the bottom of the docks.

In Mac version it IS limited to 8 people. If there're more than 8 people on the dock, then the oldest ones are "killed". They disappear. So you have to evacuate everybody to the New World first before attempting another Fountain of Youth trip. Unless you're hunting for the Cities of Gold.

spycatcher34, Sorry I haven't gotten back to you sooner. If you take another look at the image in my previous post, you'll see the latest version of the Game. Yes I said Game, but that's being very generous. We're still a long way away from having a real game. About the only thing you can do so far is have a Pioneer build a road. Still, we can use all the help we can get. Come on over to the forum and join the discussion. Ezboard doesn't even require you to register to post (you do have to be registered to edit your post).

http://pub73.ezboard.com/bthecolonizationiiproject

If you'd like to download the current version you can do so at the link below. It contains both the map editor and the game exe. At the moment you have to place your units using the editor and then save it. Start the game and choose open and load your saved map. You can move your units and build a road or irragate a tile but that's pretty much it. If you find any bugs report them on the ez forum using either the Game Progress thread or start your own. (Yes you can do that too even if you're unregistered.)

Hey! Thats looking great if i have some time i'll come over later but I can tell you now i'm not a programer. Keep us posted on the progress im looking forward to the finised gamehttp://forums.civfanatics.com/ubb/smile.gif

LandGrabber

I'm neither a programer, not a graphical artist (though occasionally I'll show off my lack of talent with a crude graphic), still I try to contribute with feedback and ideas. Right now with several of our members off on vacation, we need new voices to keep the project going. We have an excellent programer (he could use some additional help of course), and we've just added a fine artist to do some of the graphics. Still we could use anyone that wanted to try their hand at some graphics. (I don't expect any of my poor attempts to make it into the final game, however I can do some crude stuff that can fill in until a better talent has the time to get to it.)

What we really need are people willing to stick with the project and supply feedback and morale support to those able to contribute in different ways.

At least stop by and have a look.
