SImply what is your favorite unit in Civ3 not including the Unique Units and why? My own favorite is the battleship, because I like controlling the seas and battleships are the best way to do that.

Marines. I operate exactly like the real U.S. army and these are my favs. They're an integral part in hitting not only coastal cities but also cities that are a bit further inland. Also if u dont have oil and cant get tanks they're your best friend.

I like the Battleship too, EQ, tho I hardly get to that age in a game :).

Besides that, I would have to say i like the Nuclear submarine, as it rules the sea and can also deliver devestating effects on land, and also is stealth.

I also like the Knight, they're all around a great unit for that age.

I like the SLAVE.
Much cheapper than any other units, and works slow but fine for the entire game.

This didn't het moved to General Discussions yet ?

I like the Artillery best ! Slow and steady, but remorseless and deadly, Artillery is the king of the Industrial Age.

Cavalry rock! They are highly mobile, a good price, and pack a mean punch! :D

How exactly are you supposed to use nuclear subs? Everytime i send them to attack something they die.

Emperor_Reynald

They're meant to carry a nuclear missile, not attack other units

I like aircraft carriers.
Used properly they own battleships and they have a larger range for applying power.

I agree with Cavalry.

If you believe in research rushing you can get cavalry before anyone else and have them for many turns, especially if you are ahead in research. Once you have cavalry its possible to use the "stack, attack and capture" approach by moving them all to right outside the borders of a city and then move across the borders to attack. Its great for a fledgling democracy who needs to keep the people relatively happy by expanding the civilization but not actually having units exist in enemy territory.

They are also dominant over everything until the industrial age when riflemen are available. In the industrial age they are still useful as scouts as they have more movement than tanks. They aren't 100% obsolete until MA in my opinion.

Of course MA are stronger and more modern but saying you like MA has no class B)

My favorite non-UU is the worker. They never become obsolete and are useful for a wide variety of strategies (in addition to all the other great things a worker can do).

Definately the spearman. I have some in all my cities early game and if I'm low on cash sometimes I still have a few laying around all the way through the industrial age. You gotta love these little guys. You know they saved your butt many times in the ancient age.

Even Normal Subs can barely kill a Battleship it made me so sad I had to mod them.

I'd have to say the swordsmen the AI doesn't really go for that unit to early, and iron is mostly abundent so its an all-around killer unit to take cities fast and early. With 4 attack and 3 defense its mighty powerful for its age.

A carrier with three bombers and a fighter is my favourite unit. As long as you have a large task force defending it, and reinforcements back home that you can send to it as it loses its bombers, you can beat overseas enemies to a pulp!
I like keeping carriers posted just off the shores of nations that don't like me American style, so I can put the hurt on if they ever declare war.

The warrior, definetely. To be exact: the first warrior that the first city builds. Without him there wouldn't be any civ to speak of after 3000 BC. He does the most important discoveries (where to found the second city, where the nearest luxury is, and the nearest neighbour) and usually comes home as an elite.
When I 'm in a romantic mood and my military can afford such sentimental sidesteps, I retire him to my capital and never upgrade him.

I always play Archipelago maps, so Galleys are my favorite. Expansion can't be done w/out them.

u mean 3 attack and 2 defence ure talking about medieval infantry :)

well my fav has to be the knight. they are quit cheap and if u have good cities you can produce about 2 every turn from about 8 cities. this makes me win wars agains people easily if i can make so many so fast :P

i always liked the archers. the AI seemed to like to defend its cities with warriors early on, and rarely attacked with them when you came near. so i'd get a city easy. if they have spearment then that just means that it takes 2 archers.

i dislike swordmen, i dont know why.

I do! Carriers let you smash enemy shorelines to bits in a few turns. If your bombers get shot down just rebase more bombers and continue the havoc. If you keep several naval units to defend your carriers the enemy rarely attacks your convoy.

My favorite is by far the ICBM! For most of the game, I'm relatively peacefull, but then when the ICBM comes around, I mass produce and nuke the hell out of them all! After nuking every city of an enemy civ., I find it relatively easy to stroll in with a handfull of Modern Armors and raze those polluted and radioactive cities to the ground! Yay!

CAVALRY!!ICBM comes to late. I focus most of the middle age on gettin cavalry as fast as possible, i usually meat noting but Musketman and down so they can take out Civilizations easy until Rifleman. They are also exelent scouts for your Tanks.

artillery protected by infantry.
nothing more fun than to take a 30 artillery 15 infantry stack and just rolling over cities with no oposition. of course take a couple cavalry so you can hang back with your infantry and let the cavalry take them on the same turn. also good for defense when you get a buch of enemy units in your territory it's fun to knock them all to 1 hit point and take them out with a few cavalry or infantry, or whatever happends to be around

Modern armor BY FAR, actually, inter32, it's triple attack if you get it in position the turn before. and its attack is so strong nothing can compare. Settlers and workers are fun too, as I often have 1 large settler pumping city and another worker city in the early game, I LOVE to expand (at the expense of others) :D
