Emperor_Reynald Apr 14, 2003, 03:42 PM ----Bismarks Inadvertent Revenge----
or Why not to fight the 2nd most powerful empire while in democracy
Situation: Greece(me) and Germans are the most powerful on the continent. America, Russia and Aztecs have been destroyed. Remaining are Eygpt, Iriqouis, Spain, France, Engalnd and Vikings. On a pair of continents elsewhere the Asians(except Korea) are located. China is the most advanced there and I am most advanced on my continent, followed by the Germans.
Story coming soon...

Emperor_Reynald Apr 15, 2003, 03:57 PM Part 1- The Demand
"2:30 from Leipzig to Athens on Platform 3," came the tannoy announcement. Alexander watched as the newly developed electric train pulled up to the station. Bismark clearly had something important to say or he wouldn't have come in person. When the doors of the first carriage opened the Hoplites nearby steadied their rifles. The reason became quickly apparent to Alexander as several squads of Wehrmacht rushed out and took positions around the carriage. Following them came a figure resplendent in a blue jacket with gold braid.
"Ah, Alexander," said Chancellor Bismark as he walked up to the Greek king, "we have much to discuss, where shall we meet?"
"The Athenian palace will do," replied Alexander. Bismark was too important to put in front of the Grand Council before Alexander heard what he had to say.
"Of course, of course," said Bismark cheerfully. Flanked by both Hoplites and Wehrmacht the pair strolled towards the palace.
The conversation, as Alexander expected, turned quickly towards matters that he was certainly not at liberty to fully discuss.
"How is consolidation of the Aztec territories going?" asked Bismark in passing, "I hear you are building a second palace there"
"Well the Aztecs had so underdeveloped their infrastructure, I have to be able stay there to oversee the development. As they arrived at the palace Bismark noticed something interesting. A large propellor-driven plane was taking off from Athens airport. This kindled his interest.
In the palace Bismark quickly made his stance clear.
"I would like, if it's not too much trouble, everything you know on the art of air travel"
Alexander started absently, "if you would talk to my accountant, you can set your own price and..."
"I think you misunderstand," interrupted Bismark, "you give me knowledge on flight, or my Panzers will quite easily take the Aztec territories and then maybe more away from you in compensation"
"I see..." Alexander mumbled. Bismark was threatening again. The last time he had done this, more than 2000 years previously, Alexander had refused and started a pointless war where the only losses were by the Americans who had an alliance with Germany. It seemed a military alliance, like those versus the Russians and Aztecs, was all that kept Bismark from making more demands. Alexander slapped his hand on his forehead and leant on a table. He was the one who had traded the Germans the knowledge to build Panzers.
"I will give you what you want...this time," said Alexander, standing up.
"You are an excellent bootlicker Alexander, just remember always that your loyalty lies with me," Bismark said. He chuckled smugly. "That will be all". And with that he left and took the train back to Germany.
Alexander quickly got his scientists to go to Germany to pass on their knowledge. He also ordered the deploying of more Hoplite infantry to the German border, wishing, always wishing, he could rebuild the soldiers he had disbanded follwing the defeat of the Aztecs

Emperor_Reynald Apr 16, 2003, 11:30 AM Part 2- Build Up
The Ambassadors voice came crackling over the radio.
"Sire, you will not believe this!"
"What?" Alexander asked into the microphone.
"Bismark has agreed to buy the Radio designs for just about his whole treasury as well as a considerable amount per year!"
"Interesting," Alexander mused. Bismark might not be a threat after all. However, this 'considerable amount per year' would be cancelled during a war. Bismark might use this as an excuse to attack. Having signed mutual protection agreements with the other leaders on the continent would help stop Germany from attacking, but no-one was advanced enough to effectively fight the Germans except...
A few days later Alexander found himself standing in front of a great big red flag. The Chinese leader stood in front of a piece of glass, a recent invention the chinese called 'television'. On the screen were pictures of ruin from across the sea. New Beijing was burning at the hands of the Mongols. The camera crew filming this were with a squad of Red Guard Marines who recently secured a foothold there.
"This shows why I cannot help you," said Mao through the translator. Neither leader bothered to learn the others language despite being the two most advanced nations in the world. "If Germany were to attack you we would have to withdraw forces from fighting the Mongols. The People's Republic would not accept that as our southern cities would then be wide open to invasion. The Mongols are to much of a threat to ignore"
"I see," Alexander replied, "what about a trade? We give you knowledge on the protection of the environment while you give us methods to construct rockets and locate this 'aluminium' you talk of. We will happily pay you money in return for this as well."
"Very well," said Mao. He stopped for a moment. "We could use some of that incencse in keeping the dissidents content"
Angry shouts were raised from the Grand Council as Alexander stepped up to the podium.
"We needed those!" etc, etc
"Now, now," said the Prime Minister, raising his hands to calm the situation, "his Highness will have an explanation for changing research projects without our consent"
"There is a threat," Alexander started.
"Tell us something we don't know!" heckled somebody
Alexander ignored him continuing, "I recently acquired the technology to find aluminium. With this we will build a new kind of armoured vehicle that will stop the Germans from ever threatening us. As well as this my researchers believe they could use knowledge on man-made fibre to aid the completion of Project Centauri"
He stopped to look at a small messenger rush in and run up to the Prime Minister.
"I see," the Prime Minister mumbled, colour draining from his face. He turned to the Council. "Germany has taken Teotihuacan and razed Kalinin in the Northern Territory. Eygpt has sworn to help but they have lost Alexandria to a force of Prussian Brigard Cavalry"
Alexander swallowed. It had begun.

Finmaster Apr 16, 2003, 03:39 PM Germany is evil :(
KILL THEM!!! ARGH!
Emperor_Reynald Apr 18, 2003, 05:16 AM Part 3- The Blitzkreig
Andrei Kachan raised his his rifle and fired. The volley of bullets from his platoon mostly ricocheted of the Panzer's armour but a few found their mark, breaking the tracks and bringing the vehicle to a grinding halt. Andrei's family had lived in Vladivostok for centuries, he was not ready to see it fall to rampaging German hordes. He was usually happy for his rich Russian heritage but the distance the Northern territorys were from Athens meant that most of the weapons they used were outdated. He picked off some Germans as they leapt out of the now-burning Panzer.
Theophilus Logaras, on the other hand, had recently emigrated away from the often-rioting city of Sparta a few years previously. He sensed the rise in tensions and so brought a modern rifle with him. He was having a great time, picking off the machine-gunners on the tops of the Panzers before ducking back into the trench. In his usual way he rushed along the trench when he saw a group of Brigard Cavalry breaking through the line further south. Shooting into the midst of the horses brought the charge crashing onto the floor of the trench. Killing German riders trying to climb up he searched through the remains of the rifleman platoon that had been charged. One man, a Russian, stood up.
"I thank you for saving me," Andrei gasped, "but I am afraid it's not over yet". He was right. The cavalry that had pulled away in time to avoid Theo's volley had turned around and were coming back. The two soldiers pulled out the spears Hoplite Infantry had carried ever since prehistory and crouched up against the wall of the trench, pointing the spears upwards to strike as the cavalrry passed overhead. They never came. A burst of rapid-fire bullets passed over their heads and they looked over the sides of the trench. A band of soldiers had flanked the advancing Germans and, being equipped with the rapid-fire Russian made rifle the Kalishnakov, were cutting down their enemies by the dozen.
The Battle of Vladivostok was over.
In the south it was a similar story, Greek and former Aztec troops, surprised by the initial assault, had dug in and were holding the Germans at bay. However, casualties were heavy and they were certain the would not survive a second assault. Alexander had ordered the majority of his cities to start building Dexameni Tanks in preperation for them to be upgraded to this new type the researchers talked of. He had also convinced the leaders of all the other powers on the continent to join in. He was confident of a swift victory and, hindsight tells us, that was a bit overconfident.

dexters Apr 25, 2003, 01:08 PM I'm surprised you haven't gotten much feedback Emp Reynald (hey you have the same name as my cousin!)
A good story. I enjoy stories formatted like yours. :) They are very easy to get into.
Ancient Grudge Apr 30, 2003, 02:52 PM Nice story. Keep it up :)
Emperor_Reynald May 09, 2003, 12:51 PM I'm back!!! :) I've been playing freelancer for a few weeks, and with it being a big game, have only just finished it.
Argh! I was planning to contiue the story here but now my Civ is messed up due to reformattin!!!!
Emperor_Reynald May 15, 2003, 01:18 PM One of the problems about making a thread title for a story before you finish the game is you never know what will happen. Turns out I didn't get massacred due to war weariness after all...
Part 4- Counterattack
The Dexameni commander stood out of the hatch and observed the battlefield. German Brigard Cavalry were lying dead in their hundreds after an attempt to break out of the besieged Alexandria. A squad of Hoplites were waiting outside the city walls, pointing their rifles into doorways and waiting for the signal to attack. As the commander raised his hand he noticed something odd. The German flag was being lowered and replaced by...the Spanish flag. Being across the far side of the continent from Spain this was certainly puzzling. Lowering his hand he radioed in to inform of this new development.
"The flagship Hispania appears to be in the area sire," said the advisor, "we believe this is where the brigade of Spanish Marino came from that took the city". It was an interesting turn of events and Alexander made a mental note to pressure Isabella to return the city to its rightful owners, the Eygptians. News was coming in of large battles around Tlatelolco where Dexameni and Panzers were clashing and it seemed Greek numbers were winning through. The city of Teotihuacan had also been retaken at a large cost and a force was advancing into the German heartland.
Meanwhile the allies were having trouble with other fronts. The realtive distance of the Northern territories from Athens left them vulnerable but still Kalinin was the only casualty there. The relied on their allies to protect them. Theophilus found himself marching with a group of French Infanterie towards the German northern cities. In the attack he was giving them advice on attacking these places, knowing he was sending many men to their deaths. It was almost ironic, he thought, that it was just a short while before Greece had taken these cities while fighting Russia then returned them to Germany. Raising his rifle and casually shooting down an opposing Cavalry, he sighed, knowing it would be a while before the French could break through this line. Many more would die before this front was won.
News came swiftly to the palace throne room. "Our scientists have the Artificial fibres! The Dexameni IV has been finally designed!". Alexander was ready to shout with glee at this news.
"Order all Dexameni I back to the nearest city for retrofitting. Our time has come!". However even as these words were said discontent was spreading through many cities. Regional governers for West America and North Celtae were having trouble keeping the population in line and allout disorder could soon be a possibility.

Emperor_Reynald May 18, 2003, 09:23 AM Part 5- All roads lead to Berlin
The Wehrmacht soldier lifted the Panzerschreck to his shoulder. Not even these new tanks could stand up to it's might. Or so he thought. The rocket left a minor looking dent in the side of the Dexameni IV. Maybe I could use an explosive char... These were his last thoughts as the tank turned its turret and fired, destroying the building in which the German was hiding. The attack on Leipzig was a tough one. The Germans were doing everything they could to hold back the advancing armour and failing. The cathedral of composer JS Bach had already been secured and most of the city was taken. Two divisions of Dexameni IV were lost as the Wehrmacht had recently been given instruction on anti-tank combat. Meanwhile 15 divisions were advancing on the German capital of Berlin. Chancellor Bismark declared a state of emergency and made the draft compulsory in all frontline cities.
Meanwhile, New Konisberg had fallen to the Iriquois and Theophilus was there to see it. This time he had been assigned to investigating reports of prototype German weapons. Picking through the wreckage of a destroyed Panzer, he found something of interest. "Over here," he shouted to the German translator, "this manual, it shows instructions on driving what looks like a Panzer, but isn't".
"Well sir," said the translator looking through the booklet, "this appears to be a more modern version of the Panzer, similar to our new Dexameni IV. The booklet calls it a 'Schmerzpanzer' or 'Paintank'".
"I see," mumbled Theo, picking up his radio and talking into it,"General, we have a problem"
News of the German equivilant to the Dexameni IV was met with shock across the Greek nation. It was enough to start people protesting, saying that a war against an evenly matched foe would end up with massacres on both sides. Production began to grind to a halt as workers went on strike. Alexander marched into the Council chamber knowing what he must do. As he stepped up to the podium in front of the seething mass of councillers, a news report appeared on the screen behind him. It said 'Breaking News' in big letters.
"Berlin has been captured," came the voice, oddly sad sounding, "however, in the battle, we recieved reports of enormus casualties and a civilian massacre by our troops". He went on to describe an attack on a shelter set up for those whos homes were destroyed in air raids. Ten thousand people lived in this one to the west of the city centre. It was enough to send the chamber. Shouts of protest came louder than ever before. Alexander reached under the podium and pressed the button he hoped he would never have to press.
On that signal several squads of Hoplites marched in and stood in front of the councillers. They raised their rifles and pointed them into the group.
"Ahem," went Alexander. The whole room went quiet. "Councillers, I have a proposition. If you wish to join me in a new government, then raise your hand". Alexander knew he was going through with this whether they liked it or not. Many councillers saw the soldiers and realized what was happening. They raised their hands. Next came the bang of gunfire. Those who had not raised their hands were lying dead on the floor. "Good," said Alexander, smirking. If he was going to be an oppressive dictator he might as well get used to it now. "Now, comrades, join me in the new People's Republic of Greece". Alexander had no love for communism. But he knew this would be the only way to defeat Germany.
To be concluded...
Emperor_Reynald May 18, 2003, 01:00 PM Part 6- Off to a new beginning
Flowers waved in a gentle breeze, unknowning that the breeze would soon become much stronger. In the distance, a sleek finger pointed towards the sky.
"T-minus 30 seconds, and counting"
A helicopter whirred over the launch site, ready to record the event for the People's News Channel.
"T-minus 15"
The timer lit up.
"T-minus 10"
"9"
The thrusters prept for launch.
"8"
The gantry began to retract.
"7"
Warning lights were flashing.
"6"
The cockpit was empty.
"5"
However, the stasis chamber wasn't.
"4"
They were all asleep.
"3"
Except for one.
"2"
Alexander...
"1"
"Ignition"
The Centauri Voyager lit its thrusters. Smoke spewed across the launch site as the spacecraft went into the sky. The flowers were disturbed. The seeds on one flew into the sky, in the sort of symbolic way Firaxis wanted them to.
Alexander picked himself out of the stasis chamber and switched on the screen next to him. The face of Theophilus Logaras appeared.
"What are your last orders, comrade," he said.
"The Mongols...destroy them all," replied Alexander with an evil smile, "you may use the weapons".
"Your code, comrade," asked Theophilus.
"Alexander nu upsilon kappa epsilon - epsilon mu! Thank you comrade general, I leave the People's Republic of Greece in your capable hands".
And with that he switched off the screen and lay down in his chamber. First America, then Azteca, then Russia, then Germany, then Celtae, then Eygpt and now the Mongols. He was quite pleased with this list of conquests. He was about to press the button to activate the chamber when he remebered something. He reactivated the screen to show a view of Earth. Theophilus had done well. The continent of Mongla was lit up by several points of light spread across the Mongolian Empire. But then a light appeared where Athens should be, then another, and another. Some lights appeared in China and slowly but surely they spread across the surface of the Earth. Alexander lay down in the chamber. His plan had worked. What better way to ensure a completely independent colony than to destroy the colonisers. The power of communism had corrupted Alexander, but he didn't care. The stasis chamber whirred shut over his head.
The End
In case you're wondering what Alexander's code spells out...find out for yourself! Sorry I had to end the story so abruptly but I finished this particular game a while ago and so am bored waiting to start a new game and story.
Ant509y Jun 15, 2003, 01:50 PM I applaud your very entertaining story. ^^ I hope to eventually make one just as great! Keep up the god work!
