View Full Version : New building graphics...

Here are some buildings I've been working on...

Twin Towers
Hagia Sofia
Sydney Opera House
Moai (I can only take credit for the wonder splash)
Winter and summer palaces
Taj Mahal
National Museum
Statue of Liberty
Arc de Triomphe
Parthenon

Included in the zip is a buildingslarge.pcx file for the build menu and twin towers city view files, for those unlike me who know how that side of things works...

Comments/suggestions/heckling/etc... appreciated

Also, due to filesize issues, some sets are in more than one file.

Good stuff (these are also in DYP?) and definitely needed although I'm propably going to stick with my version of Hagia Sofia. ;)

In spirit of constructive criticism I'd like to address two points: Shadowing would be nice, the buildings without shadows will look like they're floating above the grass. People may wonder: "What it is with him and civilopedia icons for Pete's sake!" For me at least the feeling I get is meaningfull since I mod the game so frequently, that I have to check civilopedia all the time to know what does what. But this is not that important.

Other thing, perhaps more important, is there were no city screen icons for building-large and -small.pcx's.

But anyway, good stuff and keep them coming! And where's that Moai?:D

Very nice.

Do you have any ideas in the works to make the Circus Maximus?

Nice job, Def. Are those from Sim City?

DefByChoklit

Yep. I'm working on more and will eventually have a completed mod. Provided of course that patches and new expansion packs don't hold it up...

Here is one of them:

when you said twin towers at first i thought you meant the petronas twin towers. that would be a cool wonder to add into the game.

could you post some city view images for those buildings that don't currently have them, just in case we want to replace some of the original buildings/wonders with yours?

Very nice. It's just what I needed. Now my people can enjoy the races.

Great! The Sim City graphics are top notch so they are perfect for Civ3. Keep up the GREAT GREAT work.

I've modified the pic by DefBYChoklit to create this Wonder Splash. There are others out there but I figured people can't be bothered to search so here it is...

One question: I've seen a Sim City (World Edition or something) screenshot with the Brandenburg Gate, but it was too small to make anything out of it.
Does anybody have a screenshot with the Gate?

I take a photograph in the game menu and then tinker with it a little bit. Voila! 'New' builldings for civ3...

Interestingly, you can make your own buildings in the building architect too. If you wanted to...

no offense bud but isnt there something wrong about using another games gfx? erm, they look fine but.. well dont you atleast feel somethings wrong about that????.... morally ...

Porphyrogenitos
Apr 20, 2003, 07:44 PM
There is no such thing as morality when it comes to games like Civ3. How can one feel morality pangs when we enjoy a game in which you can starve a city to death so as to reduce resistance or nuke others to show them who's boss? Keep pillaging and lets make this a greater game.

Did someone mention Corporations and morality in the same sentence?

Ukas
Apr 23, 2003, 07:53 PM
Some of the original graphics of other games are owned not by the corp. behind the game but the artist though. Well, I'm probably going to stick with producing my own stuff (which sometimes is partially loaned but not noticeably). Will learn more while doing it anyway. But that's just me, I'm not moralizing anybody here. :)

I'd just like to say great job on the buildings - finally i've got some actual graphics to use for some of the building's i've already got.

Great work!!:goodjob:

I agree there is a moral problem, I like to think the better players manage to at least minimize the starving in resisting cities. But that 's beside the poinjt. I was looking for a Hermitage building and now I found it. Thanks DefByChoklit:goodjob:, your national museum comes closer than any other building I 've seen (or tried to make), but shadows would be nice though, and in fact the Hermitage looks somewhat different. But if you don't know that it 's fine... and that third picture in the zip tops everything!!

Dom Pedro II

I don't think there's a real moral problem since no one is making any money from this.

Our modpacks are not being sold to anyone, nor does anyone try to pass off the graphics as their own. I think if proper acknowledgement is given to the real sources, then its ok. Especially since its for free.

Okay - on the topic of morality.
I must agree with Dom Pedro II, as long as you give credit there's no real harm in it. Plus, it's not like we're causing people to not buy these other products, and we're also not trying to sell these graphics.
Further, about the whole starving people. It is a game - so i guess if you have a problem with changing 1's into 0's then maybe you should be all riled up. Realize that when you starve somebody in say, New York, that you didn't actually starve a real person in New York, it's just a game.
