View Full Version : What would Sultan B. Do?
Sultan Bhargash Apr 17, 2003, 02:26 AM This monarch game I play as Sultan Bhargash, the Omani ruler (I’ll use the Arabs, expansionist and religious tribe who build the fleet Ansar warriors instead of knights) who modernized Zanzibar. I fire up the snoopy green terrain and build a standard sized world with 7 random civs, restless barbarians, 70% temperate normal humidity land, 4 billion years old. And at 4000 BC I’m thrilled to see such a wonderful starting location. To help move the story along I’ve got accelerated production on.
Sultan Bhargash Apr 17, 2003, 02:27 AM 1. 4000 BC Zanzibar Town is built with coast, river, wheat and cows all surrounding it. The first build is going to be a second scout, ready in three turns.
Worker moves to cow; this reveals diamonds in the mountains to the south.
Offturn- The Sultan wants bronze work researched, concerned at the level of defense his cities might have.
2. 3950 BC Our scout visits hut to the northwest on the coast, a perfect distance for a New City to pop up out of the hut. Sultan names it New Muscat and the first build is set to a warrior.
Sultan Bhargash Apr 17, 2003, 02:29 AM 3. 3900 BC Scout moving east, worker building a road over that cow.
Offturn- Zanzibar Town scout>warrior.
4. 3850 BC Offturn- Muscat warrior>scout.
5. 3800 BC Scout meets up with Ottomans, we trade Sultan Osman Pottery plus 15 gold and 1 per turn for Bronze Working. Not the best deal but it advances us; we’ll study Warrior code, the shortest tech at 10 turns, next.
Offturn- Zanzibar Town warrior>spearman.
6. 3750 BC Harrapan tribe teaches us Masonry.
7. 3700 BC Friendly Cuman tribe gave us a (not-so) skilled warrior.
Offturn- New Muscat scout>settler.
8. 3650 BC Offturn-Zanzibar town spearman>granary.
9. 3600 BC A turn of quiet exploration.
10. 3550 BC The age of exploration is in full gear with a vast beautiful landscape stretching away from our two, soon to be three, cities.
11. 3500 BC We meet a Babylonian warrior straggling in from the Southwest. We’re up on them by the tech of masonry, which they can only offer us 10 gold for. I do not take the deal. In a hut nearby, the Hurrian tribe teaches us Mysticism. The Ottomans will give us Warrior code and 30 gold for it, so I teach them first.
12. 3450 BC Nothing much happening, just expanding our geographic knowledge east and west.
13. 3400 BC Still quiet times…
Offturn-Zanzibar town goes into hysterics. I thought I should have pop rushed the granary. Argh. I’ll raise the entertainment tax expenditures to keep them happy.
14. 3350 BC Amazing how far you can go without seeing a hut to pop.
15. 3300 BC
Offturn-Zanzibar Town granary>worker.
New Muscat Settler>spearman.
16. 3250 BC Settler starts moving south to capture diamond hills before Ottomans advance there. He is escorted by New Muscat’s original warrior.
Offturn-Zanzibar Town worker>spearman.
17. 3200 BC We meet the Zulu people. We are far more advanced.
18. 3150 BC An Assyrian tribes gives us maps of the SW. L
Offturn-Zanzibar Town spearman>settler.
19. 3100 BC The Zulu have crept in and got the spices for themselves.
Offturn- Harrapan raiding party attacks our roaming warrior and almost kills him. News of this has Zanzibar in disorder.
20. 3050 BC Mistubishi founded amid three diamonds in the mountains to the south of New Muscat. First build= worker. We’ll have these valuable commodities on line fast. The Sultan has announced plans for a diamond road to connect the capital and later the empire. But the next priority will be capturing the canal chokepoint bordering Zululand, then improving the cities while adding some to the east and west. Here is the latest map. A hurrian village far to the south gives us a skilled warrior.
Offturn- New Muscat spearman>settler.
21. 3000 BC Southern warrior fights and kills a barb in camp but there’s more there, threatening the scout nearby.
I’ll save here and pick this up again next time.
The dotmap shows the red chokepoint our next settler will go to, the yellow spots are otehr good spots for cities.
china444 Apr 23, 2003, 03:27 PM Nice storyline and game.
1 suggestion for your dotmap, the YELLOW dot to the NW, shouldnt you put it on the forest sqaure SW of that dot so you could get both the cattles?
Nice Game! Keep Updating!
Sultan Bhargash Apr 23, 2003, 03:33 PM Sorry, I haven't been updating for a long time, because I had written out the next twenty turns and it crashed before I could save it. The game has progressed to industrial ages; I wiped out the neighboring Ottomans with just horsemen and the Zulu with Ansar warriors; I'm subduing Babylon to the south and have the size edge over everyone. Problem is, as always, I'm behind in tech when it is nearly time to build the TOE- Celts on the other, peaceful scientific continent, are working on it while I research electricity. Maybe I'll post an update if I get back into this game but when I see the chance to lose another one to the UN build developing I tend to get cold on it...
china444 Apr 23, 2003, 03:38 PM Cool!
Looks like you don't need my advice! :) ;)

Sounds more like "What Would George B. Do?" rather than "What Would Sultan B. Do?"
