View Full Version : More Static Leaderheads
PCHighway Apr 24, 2003, 12:38 AM Well, here they are, I would like to bring up the fact that most of the preview are just the base image I used for the leaderhead, none of them are exactly what you will get and that is a good thing, as I had to resize the and in some cases take away the writing. I will try and make this brief, most SLH files have more than one version in them i.e you get to choose from different pictures. And I point out how many they have. I would like thank Calgacus for many of the images:goodjob:
And if Clam I am, is reading this, no I haven’t gave up on it, and plan on doing the Leaderheads also, I am working on the one you gave me, but need the others if you want them, no rush, just letting you know its still being done.
Apparently I have to many images for one post, so this will now be divided into multiple posts
.
Brian Boru, two leaderheads, I am working on a third SLH of him.

Tamerlane, I have three done, but one suffered from transparency problems, so only two are here. The second pic had to be reduced in size to make it CFC friendly, to give you an idea it went from 41kb to 9kb that is the preview, has no effect on the actual Leaderhead.

Any suggestions are welcome, I have had some problems with transparency if you can tell, and am trying to fix the following images for SLH:
Brian Boru
Isis
Loki
Odin Modern
Seth
Pope Urban the II
William the Conqueror
Baldwin, I have no idea who he is or where I found him:confused:.
Heny II
Ivan the terrible(2)
Mindaugas (2)
Saladin the Great
Tamerlane
Jesus Christ
Epaminondas
I will probably move requests to the top (assuming there won’t be many;) ).
If anyone notices broken links or files not containing what they are supposed to, notify me immediately, other than that they all have been tested in game.
Yoda Power Apr 24, 2003, 07:49 AM :goodjob:
calgacus Apr 25, 2003, 02:53 PM I think Baldwin was given you by me. He'd be a great king of Jerusalem.
GREAT JOB BTW :goodjob: :goodjob: :goodjob:
calgacus May 18, 2003, 07:10 PM PCHighway, are you still going to do Mindaugas the Great?
http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?postid=878498#post878498
PCHighway May 19, 2003, 08:46 AM I plan on releasing the ones I didn't finsih in about a week (around the weekend). I haven't forgotten the Mindaugas ones. I have been fairly busy recently. But you have to admit, there seems to be less (virtually none) of a demand for static leaderheads.
EDIT, pushed it back to after finals, sorry for the delay:(
Sa~Craig Jul 02, 2003, 01:37 PM thanks for the Ra leaderhead from Pharaoh are you doing the rest or should i try
PCHighway Jul 02, 2003, 02:55 PM As far as I know thats the only one I got from Pharaoh, unless your talking about all the other (to do) images? I wouldn't mind doing them, I know I have been stalling however, So I will buckle down to it and do it today. The problem with the ones left are they have major transparency problems, meaning I have to find different, better images of the same picture.
Have you ever done static FLC's before? Do you have a program?
Sa~Craig Jul 02, 2003, 03:26 PM no I'm looking at the moment. I meant the other images from Pharaoh which are Osiris, Bast, Seth and Ptah. If you have a program can you e-mail it to me.
PCHighway Jul 02, 2003, 03:37 PM I'd love to, but there is no need. Links are so much more efficient ;). You will need a .pcx editing tool, which judging by your other work you do, so we are cool there. Now, this tool is called the 'FMP121' program, it is freeware, as long as you don't use it commercially. I found it at a site called the Converters Paradise, if you have any problems with transparency, remember you have to put it in a indexed colored mode before converting to FLC's. The tool is incredibly easy to use.
Scroll down to the 'F' category, then look for fmp141.zip
Or use the 'find command (ctr+f)
FMP (http://www.converters.tk/)
Sa~Craig Jul 02, 2003, 03:56 PM I use Adobe Photoshop 5.0 Limited Edition as a PCX editing tool I just have to become better at using it. thanks for the flc tool
Sa~Craig Jul 02, 2003, 05:17 PM i've done 2 leaderheads one is Bast and one is me ;) i'll only be posting the Bast one but after i've done the rest of the Pharaoh ones
PCHighway Jul 02, 2003, 06:09 PM Tell me about it, photoshop is a complicated tool, took forever for me to get used to it as I am now, and I'm sure I have much more to learn. Using (6.0) here. For those still interested, I have completed the SLH, this should be all of them, with he exception of Jesus Christ. Just couldn’t make up my mind what type of picture I wanted for him, if Calgacus or someone could get an ideal picture, well, that would be good ;). I will post the Static leaderheads in the next couple of posts.
Thanks to Calgacus for nearly all of these :goodjob:! And sorry for the 3 month long delay  .

Baldwin (http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads4/SLH-Baldwin.zip)

Seth (http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads4/SLH-Set.zip)

[EDIT- See post 21 for a re-done version]
Odin (http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads4/SLH-OdinBR.zip)
Doesn’t have any distinction for who he really is, for all I know it might be a comic book guy.
Actually it looks like it came from a game, no idea what one.

Pope Urban the II (http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads4/SLH-Urban_the_2nd.zip)
Not really admirable, but he did start the Crusades, first, second, or third, I can’t be sure.

If anyone is not getting the right stuff in the file LET ME KNOW Same with a switched link.
Sa~Craig Jul 02, 2003, 06:45 PM just for your information that is Seth a little short and fat but thats him;)
mrtn Jul 02, 2003, 07:41 PM That pic of Odin (which I suppose should be the old nordic god) is one of the worst pics I've seen of him. Assuming it isn't that game you want to make a SLH for, I'd say: don't bother. You might want to try this one instead. It at least has all the facts right: an old man with only one eye.
PCHighway Jul 02, 2003, 07:51 PM Check the 'various gods' download for that leaderhead of Odin. Good point Sa~Craig, I probably should re-do him. I did him waaay back (with the other gods), but just fixed the transparency problem now.
If you see anymore leaderheads that look squished you would be doing me a favor to let me know, I had to work in volume here! It was crazy, at one point I had 55 files on my Desktop, all the folder, .pcx files, .jpg's and FLC's.
PCHighway Jul 02, 2003, 08:09 PM A more realistic Seth, edges couldn't really be helped, didn't have a texture anywhere similar to it.
Seth Revamped (http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads4/SLH-Set2.zip)
Also, the JRR Tolkien one was the wrong size, It's fixed now, didn't really expect anyone to use it anyway, then mrtn came and it got me thinking;).
Sa~Craig Jul 03, 2003, 02:12 PM and straight into my egyptian mod it goes
PCHighway Jul 03, 2003, 02:18 PM I hate to be the one to break it to you, but theres no evidence of Seth being a real ruler ;). Is your mod based more on the Mythology aspect of Egypt?
Sa~Craig Jul 03, 2003, 02:49 PM yes it is sort of about gaining religous dominence in Egypt using cult centers as capitals.
tjedge1 Aug 16, 2003, 06:39 PM AH! Leaderheads. Just what I needed to spice up my games! Any chance anyone has any elf, dwarf or orcish ones? Or any other fantasy oriented ones?

There's been some fantasy leaderheads posted, most by Sween32: check his homepage (http://casperfusion.com/civ3/leaderheads/fantasy/), for example.

Besides, I made a few building conversions, but mostly been helping out in the Lord of the Rings mod, before it became so chic! Chic in a way nerdy-ness has never been before, I might add;).
Been there for the last seven months, as it has been so eloquently pointed out to me;).

We've drifted off topic...so how about the PCX files for these static leaderheads? Or failing that, how about teaching the rest of us how to do it? Yes I would imagine monkey’s on crack are slightly off-topic;). I realize now that my post might sound a little offensive to those who don’t really know me. I would like to assure Calgacus that it was meant with all possible jest, I get disagreeable and mildly embarrassed when it comes to my low post count;).
As for the .pcx files, -
PCHighway on Dec 06-
Thanks for the interest, I will try and make some diplomacy .pcx's within a couple of weeks. I would be glad to ‘teach’ someone how to use (notice I say use, not make) it, but unfortunately I am not the best teacher. There are, from my understanding two mainstream ways of making .pcx files, using Adobe Photoshop or Paint-shop Pro(PSP). I use the former, so I can’t tell you much about PSP. I do know, however, that PSP comes with Animation Shop which allows the creation of .FLCs. I would imagine it would give you more bang for your buck, as Adobe Photoshop does not come cheap, running along the lines of 150-700 USD.
http://www.adobe.com/products/photoshop/main.html
If you do have Adobe Photoshop, then I would be more than willing to point you in the direction of a wonderful, freeware utility (as long as not used commercially) which allows you to convert JPEG’s and .PCX files into animated .FLC files.

Odin is god of war.
And here another foto.
http://www.vinlandtraders.com/images/odin.jpg
Scandinavian Mythology
The Scandinavian legends and myths about ancient heroes, gods, and the creation and destruction of the universe developed out of the original common mythology of the Germanic peoples and constitute the primary source of knowledge about ancient German mythology. Because Scandinavian mythology was transmitted and altered by medieval Christian historians, the original pagan religious beliefs, attitudes, and practices cannot be determined with certainty. Clearly, however, Scandinavian mythology developed slowly, and the relative importance of different gods and heroes varied at different times and places. Thus, the cult of Odin, chief of the gods, may have spread from western Germany to Scandinavia not long before the myths were recorded; minor gods—including Ull, the fertility god Njord, and Heimdall—may represent older deities who lost strength and popularity as Odin became more important. Odin, a god of war, was also associated with learning, wisdom, poetry, and magic.
Most information about Scandinavian mythology is preserved in the Old Norse literature, in the Eddas and later sagas; other material appears in commentaries by the Danish historian Saxo Grammaticus and the German writer Adam of Bremen (flourished about 1075). Fragments of legends are sometimes preserved in old inscriptions and in later folklore.
Besides Odin, the major deities of Scandinavian mythology were his wife, Frigg, goddess of the home; Thor, god of thunder, who protected humans and the other gods from the giants and who was especially popular among the Scandinavian peasantry; Frey, a god of prosperity; and Freya, sister of Frey, a fertility goddess. Other, lesser gods were Balder, Hermod, Tyr, Bragi, and Forseti; Idun, Nanna, and Sif were among the goddesses. The principle of evil among the gods was represented by the trickster Loki.
Many ancient mythological heroes, some of whom may have been derived from real persons, were believed to be descendants of the gods; among them were Sigurd the Dragon-slayer; Helgi Thrice-Born, Harald Wartooth, Hadding, Starkad, and the Valkyries. The Valkyries, a band of warrior-maidens that included Svava and Brunhild, served Odin as choosers of slain warriors, who were taken to reside in Valhalla. There the warriors would spend their days fighting and nights feasting until Ragnarok, the day of the final world battle, in which the old gods would perish and a new reign of peace and love would be instituted. Ordinary individuals were received after death by the goddess Hel in a cheerless underground world.
Scandinavian mythology included dwarves; elves; and the Norns, who distributed fates to mortals. The ancient Scandinavians also believed in personal spirits, such as the fylgja and the hamingja, which in some respects resembled the Christian idea of the soul. The gods were originally conceived as a confederation of two formerly warring divine tribes, the Aesir and the Vanir. Odin was originally the leader of the Aesir, which consisted of at least 12 gods. Together all the gods lived in Asgard.
