I propose that for DG3, it should be required to name all files in the following way:


For Demogame III files

DG3_<game year>_<discriptor>.jpg
or
DG3_<discriptor>.jpg


For RPG files

RP3_<game year>_<discriptor>.jpg
or
RP3_<discriptor>.jpg


DG3 - This is to denote that all files are from Demogame 3. Why? We have 2 demogames already, and some demogame files are in the uploads4 directory. This is to prevent any duplicates, and accidently showing an image from DG2.

<game year> - This is so we can group the game year. If we were to look through the file directory for some reason, we could easily find them.

<discriptor> - This tells the file info, such as province_plan1, province_plan2, wm_sm.

It would look something like this:

DG3_AD0250_OperationZealousZulu.jpg
DG3_BC4000_cityscreen.jpg
DG3_BC4000_Province1.jpg
DG3_BC4000_start.jpg
DG3_BC4000_wm.jpg
RP3_VolcanoThread_Volcano.jpg
RP3_Despot_Palace.jpg

Tis a good idea, although I'd prefer to have it as an official recommendation rather than a concrete rule. Sometimes it's nice be able to give files exotic or amusing (to me) names on a whim :mischief:

I like the Idea. Could the discription be used if there are more than one kind of save?

Looks good to me. We can avoid file loss when TF cleans up the server too as he'll know which ones are for the demogame.

Actually, thinking about this some more, I think that if we go ahead with this the game year should be in the format "BC4000" rather than "4000BC" so as to keep BC and AD saves, etc... from mingling on people's hard drives. Small matter, but worth taking into consideration if we're looking to draw up a convention :)

That's exactly my thinking. ;)

We should also stick to 4 digit year values, so that 250AD would become "AD0250". Again just to make browsing lists of files easier.

Same here. My HD on my Computer is almost cluttered with other Civ3 Saves

and also: this should be a standard rather than a law. so it should be implemented in the COS by the new administration...

I agree. This will save us a headache when looking for the files.

One more thing. Make any uploaded RPG files have the prefix RP3_ instead of DG3_.
