BTW, I would normally write this simply as

As you can see from my 1-start settler icon, I'm fairly new to this site. I don't know the people here yet, so tell me a little about yourself. I can see you're from Sweden, and I'm probably the only native English speaker registered here that knows how to pronounce your home town correctly!

That's an unusual opening Håkan. Does it have a name? I guess I just have to take the pawn you're offering me...

I don't use ICQ and I'm not very good at chat groups. The reasons are that I have to sneak time on the computer when I can, and I can't type fast enough for chat!

I'm 48. I played chess a lot 10 years ago but not much since then. I probably play Civ better than I do chess http://forums.civfanatics.com/ubb/smile.gif I live about 60km north east of London.

Well done on winning that competition! That's something I've never done. Does that mean you have (or had) a rating? What rating system do you use in Sweden anyway?

And I remember what this opening is called now. I think it's the "Omega Gambit" or "Arafat Gambit". A pawn for a tempo or something...

I think your missing king pawn potentially gives you a little more open play, though may also bring weaknesses. On the other hand you've effectively lost your extra tempo so I thinks it's just like being a pawn down. But the game's only just started...

So far I think we have always predicted each other castling. You must have prepared your e5 in the other game when you predicted my 0-0-0. Similarly for me in this game.

The graphic was very lifelike and I thought at first you'd got a digital camera for your birthday. If you put it into a program like PaintShopPro you could save it as a lower quality jpg. It would still look great on screen, and the same size, but it would take only 10%-20% of the filespace and be much faster to load.
