Lets advance as fast as possible in the tech tree and put a lot of money onto researching techs. If we research techs we can very soon have the upperhand on all the other civs..

I applaud this group's charter but cannot join. I generally prefer a very low investment into the sciences as it is much cheaper to purchase than to do the work yourself. This frees up cash for military and infrastructure.

It may be cheaper but will we never get ahead of the opponents that way...

Sure we will. My jump ahead is usually with the TOE. At that point I surge forward and go from being a tech buyer to a tech seller. As all through the ancient and iron ages I have been building up forces and infrastructure my internal forces and durability are miles ahead of the civs that have been investing their cash in research. That's a builder game of course, in a hawk's game I don't research ever as it just slows down conquest.

My strat is to research to an Expensive technology... Currency and sell it for every tech available to every different opponent. Mathamatics on the way is a big seller too.

I also love to research exepnsive techs and make money on them, but we must never sell all we have as we need to have an advantage against our opponents, including our allys. I once selled all my techs to my ally. Thye then used those techs to attack me. We cant allow something like that to happen :D

Put me down as a tech freak too.... in a Monarch game, no reason to wait until the TOE to get ahead of the AI - taking a lead in the early middle ages is quite possible.
