Since Stellar Converter is so damned good , I'll start a new game with anybody who wants. Stormerne? Have you finished up your games? No? Anybody else so.

1. Nc3

OK you're on! I'll play you.

My 2 games with Håkan... well he suggested we award ourselevs one win each, which is probably fair. He was just ahead in one and I was well ahead in the other. I don't think his brief return will resuccitate the games.

Do you want to play two games simultaneously, one with each colour? If yes, then I'll make the first move on another thread.

Either way, let me consider my first move(s) at lunch time. (I've just barged in here to make sure I get the game!)

All right Stormerne. As you wish. I've just one brain, and especially one neurone alive http://forums.civfanatics.com/ubb/biggrin.gif but I'll try 2 games at the time. Go on.

BTW, HEY STELLAR!!! You edited my post! http://forums.civfanatics.com/ubb/spanking.gif I know that. http://forums.civfanatics.com/ubb/smile.gif I originally posted something else than "Stellar is damned good" right? Wasn't it the truth what I posted? http://forums.civfanatics.com/ubb/smile.gif But after all, you're the moderator you have the power http://forums.civfanatics.com/ubb/wink.gif

For other people (and hoping he won't edit that thread again) I originally just said SC was *a bit slow* in replying for the chess game. Didn't say something offending? http://forums.civfanatics.com/ubb/smile.gif Anyway.

OK. To summarise then:
GenghisK v. Stormerne
1. Nc3 e5
2. d3 d5
3. e4 d4
4. Bd2 d4xNc3
5. ...

stormerne
Apr 24, 2001, 12:24 AM
Are you sure you want to do that???
If you play Bd2 I will just play d4xNc3.
Which is fine by me of course, but it'll just make the game much shorter. http://forums.civfanatics.com/ubb/smile.gif

GenghisK
Apr 24, 2001, 12:56 AM
I think so. I've never had great use of Knights. And I think it should be ok. Thanks for reminding me that http://forums.civfanatics.com/ubb/smile.gif

stormerne
Apr 24, 2001, 04:29 PM
Right! Actually I looked at this one on the train home tonight for quite a while. You have some surprising resources so I musn't become complacent. I still have to play exactly.

1. Nc3 e5
2. d3 d5
3. e4 d4
4. Bd2 d4xNc3
5. Bxc3 Nc6
6. ...

GenghisK
Apr 25, 2001, 12:44 AM
Think you've guessed my move now, right?

1. Nc3 e5
2. d3 d5
3. e4 d4
4. Bd2 d4xNc3
5. Bxc3 ...

------------------
Genghis K.

GenghisK
Apr 25, 2001, 08:26 AM
1. Nc3 e5
2. d3 d5
3. e4 d4
4. Bd2 d4xNc3
5. Bxc3 Nc6
6. Nf3...

BTW, you're thinking at that on the train? Well, I should better take more time to compute my moves, so. I only spend 15 minutes per move every day... Not because I'm busy but it's exactly like in a normal game. So don't expect me to be a too hard opponent! http://forums.civfanatics.com/ubb/smile.gif I'll try to do my best to give you a fun(ny?) game, though.

------------------
Genghis K.

stormerne
Apr 25, 2001, 08:57 AM
15 minutes a move is quite a long time! I probably spent less on this last night. I expected your 6th move but I needed to be careful about my own 6th. The natural continuation (Bd6) may be better but it's unnecessarily risky in my view. So I'm doing something else instead. And since I worked it out last night, I can play it straightaway today!

1. Nc3 e5
2. d3 d5
3. e4 d4
4. Bd2 d4xNc3
5. Bxc3 Nc6
6. Nf3 Bg4
7. ...

GenghisK
Apr 25, 2001, 01:06 PM
My moves are surely too predictable for you but anyway I'm playing what you expected:

7. Be2 ...

7. Be2 BxNf3

And, to speed things up, if you now play

then I will reply

(Please remember I am away on holiday Friday and Monday.)

GenghisK

Mine too. Well, honestly, if you remember our last friday bar, you told me that some people used a special technic: they block all the enemy units and slowly move their king to checkmate. The same is happening here. I would like to resign. Even though I've 2 rooks left, I can't stand the challenge any more. Nevertheless, perhaps I'll go on, for 2 main reasons:
_ 1st, I'll have experience playing with a professsional like you http://forums.civfanatics.com/ubb/wink.gif
_ 2nd, I play chess for fun. So I want fun until my head lies down the floor http://forums.civfanatics.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

OK. I accept your resignation!

You may be interested to know that when I played my 11th move 11. ... a5, I was planning to force Nd4 eventually. I needed to get your c3 pawn out of the way as it was guarding d4. The point of 11...a5 was to ensure that if you played b4, I could go ab and if you responded cb I would have my d4 square. Then I needed to play b5, so that if you didn't play b4 yourself, I could play b4 and attack your c3 pawn. Hence when you played a4, attacking the empty b5 square, I needed to play Rb8 first before pushing the b pawn. I figured the worst I could get was pressure down the b file with doubled rooks (which I eventually got).

What was the point of all this you say? I figured when I made my 11th move that if I could play Nd4 at some stage I would have a won game. Little did I know that the game would actually be over on the same move that I eventually played Nd4!

Stormerne it's incredible I can merely imagine such a tactic sense. You can see everything, the smallest leak in my defense! Amazing. Never seen such a deep analyse. And... thanks for that fun game. I've learned some diabolic tactics from you

It's not so much a tactical sense as a strategic sense. The tactics are what make the strategy happen.

I need a rest from chess for a few days! I may play someone after the 12th of June, but I've got a conference talk to organise first.

Thank you for the game. I'm not up to full speed again yet at chess so I'm glad we both learnt something from it.
