OK - now I have finally found a chess game, so that I can keep track of a game, so I would like to play against somebody - but I'm not all that good at chess.

Your move and let's do it simple, since I don't understand the short version that everybody els seems to use.....

And Stormerne - while I play Civ2 somewhat good - that can't be said about chess. All the patients that I have in Civ2 is lacking in chess, so I tend to overlook to much and loose most of the time.

Stormerne, although I'm not as good as MacOS X in multitasking http://forums.civfanatics.com/ubb/biggrin.gif I think I'm more stable than Win98, even though I can sometimes act strangely, especially for my last moves in our current games. Well, this game started out as Bird's defence to the Ruy Lopez. But "the bird has flown" and the Viking longships have been put to sea ready to loot and plunder.

On the whole I prefer the Danish raiders' side. So far...

Explanations:
The "Ruy Lopez" is characterised by 3.Bb5 and named after a mediaeval chess-playing bishop!
Bird's Defence is 3...Nd4 as is quite unusual.
"The bird has flown" meant that you had by that time deviated from the normal course of Bird's Defence.
"The Danish longboats put to sea" were the pawns coming in your direction! Shadowdale's f4 was a healthy stab at preparing the e5 pawn-fork. Other ways of doing the same thing included moving his rook to e1.

The problem move for you GK was Bd6. In my humble opinion, that bishop has no business blocking the queen pawn as it will make development of your c8 bishop very difficult. It also sets up the the pawn-fork (which Shadowdale has now made) because the obvious and best place for your g8 knight is on f6.

Oh, and the final definition:
KIBITZER = "one who looks on and often offers unwanted advice or comment especially at a card game; broadly : one who offers opinions" (Merriam-Webster's Online Dictionary).

OK so you're wondering what the 6 moves are huh? I'll not give the whole analysis, just the longest line. Any deviations from these moves by Black and it's less than 6 moves! http://forums.civfanatics.com/ubb/lol.gif

The threatened mate revolves around White getting his a1 rook upto e7 and threatening mate with the queen at h7. It turns out this mate is unstoppable. The best black can do is delay things by sacrificing his queen!

Eventually I might give him a game when I'm not too busy. It's a shame Anand has not posted for a month - he's by far the strongest rated player here - though Smash did beat him. Maybe that's why he's gone...
