Rise of the Alliance
By Pritom Das

Note: This is based off a save file from the game Civilization III, but put into a story form. Also, all opinions of this story have nothing to do with the real world.

All was quiet at first. Nothing rang through the world. There were no noises, no nothing…anywhere. Appeared on the horizon were 8 people, who would soon rise to power and attempt to be the wondrous civilization of the world. There names were: Osman I of the Ottomans, Joan of Arc of the French, Abe Lincoln of the Americans, Gandhi of the Indians, Cleopatra of the Egyptians, Hammurabi of the Babylonians, Brennus of the Celts, and Queen Isabella of the Spaniards. God had granted each of these future leaders with great power to control. Bands of settlers and workers were also to guide these leaders to their ultimate goal. These leaders were granted great intelligence, and knew vital tactics for cities to prevail. Each of these leaders had settled their first cities, and the race for the world had begun.
Osman glandered at the dank air.
"The land here is arable, my lord," Reported a leader of settlers.
"Good. Build our city hear, and make it quick," ordered Osman.
Osman observed as time passes as this city was built. It was Istanbul, the central city of the future nation of Turkey, owned by the Ottomans. Years had passed, as Osman ordered his settlers to build cities southward, and workers to establish trade routes, and improve the land around Osman's empire. After the south of Istanbul was well developed, Osman ordered a troop of warriors north aiding some settlers. Hostility was to the north, as Seljuk, Mauryan, and Goth barbarian tribes lay to the north. These cities were ransacked by these warriors, and it was safe to built north. But soon, Osman had other matters to tend to: his settlers had met the territory of the Americans, under the leadership of Abe Lincoln.
"Hopefully these people are at least decent in their ways of life," Osman wished.
It turns out that the Americans were far advanced than the Ottomans, and considered them infidels. Osman scoffed, as he knew that the Americans would be an arrogant neighbor, and something would have to be done…not now though…in the near future would be the best, thought Osman.
Soon, the Ottomans had exchanged maps with the Americans, and they had learned about the French people lying to the north of the Americans. The French were also advanced, but proved to be much more polite about it, offering trades for the new technologies they owned. A trade route was immediately set up by Osman, knowing that the Ivory and Incense the French had would be wanted by the peoples of his nation, in exchange for glamorous silks, and a grand amount of gold. The French turned out to be very gracious to the Ottomans, while the Americans appeared to be quaint and cautious towards the Ottomans. Osman enjoyed diplomatic meetings with tea, dinner, and more when meeting with Joan of Arc. Abe Lincoln, however, only would want to talk about deals in diplomatic meetings…no pleasant manners or events, such as a welcoming party, dinner, or grand show. The Ottomans greatly disliked the Americans now.
The French knew that the Ottomans felt angry towards the Americans, and the Americans have acted like pigs to the French also. The French thought that this had to end, so therefore, they declared war on the Americans. The people of Istanbul and the rest of the Ottoman cities rejoiced, as the evil Americans were going to have trouble. Osman wanted to go to war, but the senate of his newly established republic did not vow for war, as they had trade routes for a vital source of Horses, used to create horsemen and such. The French had captured the city of horses from the Americans, and the Ottomans knew it was time to strike. However, the French signed a peace treaty with the Americans, so Osman decided to just trade for horses with the French, and leave the Americans alone.
The colonization of the continent was complete. All the areas of cultural influence had reached their max power. There was no more suitable land to settle for the Ottomans, the French, or the Americans. The Ottomans, French, and Americans thought it as time to expand all of their borders, and boat building quickly became a rising industry. Many galleys and caravels were made. The Ottomans were the first to find land to the west, but were shocked to discover all of the land was taken over. There were two islands: one, home to Brennus of the Celts, Gandhi of the Indians, and Isabella of the Spanish. The other island was home to the weak, small, but highly advanced nation of Babylon, ruled by Hammurabi. The Egyptians, under the rule of Cleopatra, ruled many great cities, and had an empire the size of Turkey and France put together.
Time had passed. Trade routes had been established. Treaties were signed. Expansion became a thing of the past, as all the land was settled upon by all these advanced nations. The Ottomans trudged behind in technology. The people felt angry, and mobs swept through the empire. Osman quickly fixed this by hiring gypsies, dancers, and entertainers to make his citizens happy. Turkey thrived, along with the other countries. The Ottomans caught up with the world in technology, as the wonder of the Great Library created many advances and opened the door to many Turkish scientists. Time had now reached what we would know today as the 'Civil War' era. Common in every city would you find riflemen with square caps, or offensive horse riders with great rifles. For the cavalry troops, the Ottomans differed. They had discovered gunpowder much earlier, and thus had much testing time. Instead of standard cavalry, they used the Sipahi, which were advanced attackers and had stronger weapons. Osman knew, being the intelligent man he was, that it was time to rise to power, as these great Sipahi would soon be useless with newer inventions.
France had recently declared war with the Americans once again, as they had violated trade routes. The Celts had decided to help the French, as they were great friends after the marriage of Brennus' son, and Joan of Arc's daughter. Osman still knew Joan very well, and trade routes were still thriving. France and the Celts had invited the Osmans into this great war, and thus, the Alliance of these 3 powerful nations was created. Osman had already considered crushing the Spaniards, but knew it would hurt his reputation as a great leader very much. The Celts were unable to help in this matter, though, as they were on a completely different continent. In this case, the war was still easy. The French pushed hard from the north, while the Ottomans pushed from the south, and further east. The French took 3 highly populated cities near the French border, while the Ottomans pushed like madmen with their powerful Sipahi westward. The American empire had come to and end, and the Ottomans entered a Golden Age. A certain battalion of Sipahi were great warriors, and were known as al-Conquista. They were named because of their American conquest, as both words of conquest and America is included in the name of this battalion. Every other troop was noted as a number, such as the 105th, and therefore, having a name was great honor, and showed skill as an army. The new, democratic nation of Turkey rejoiced with grand celebrations in name of Osman, because of the crushing of the weak but noble Americans.
Egypt, the power of the world, thought that the Ottomans would be a threat, and decided to begin a conquest against the Ottomans. This plan would be foiled, as Osman was now also a great general with tactics of war. This war would prove no gain for either nation, however. This would only spark World War I, as every nation was either in an alliance against Egypt, or had a trade embargo. The Egyptians and Spaniards had a trade embargo against Turkey, while every country except India was fighting the Egyptians. The Turks knew that Cleopatra would try to persuade Gandhi to stop trading with them, so Osman quickly drew up a trade plan, to cease any embargos. The French also persuaded Isabella to end the trade embargo against Osman, and attack the evil Egyptians, and Isabella agreed. After these agreements were made, years were passed, as troops would need to assemble. Sipahi from all corners of Turkey assembled on grand transports to Egypt. Transported to a small continent, holding only 3 cities, the Turks pushed to take two cities, while leaving the others for anyone else. This war, however, would end soon. The Turks knew that they would only be wasting troops, because the discovery of replaceable parts would allow defensive forces able to overpower any Sipahi battalion, even al-Conquista. Osman sat down with Cleopatra, and peace was signed. Cleopatra signed for peace with all the other countries, and the worlds first world war had ended, but not with the costs. The glorious civilization of the Babylonians were too weak to repel Egyptian forces, and Babylon was wiped out. Celebrations littered the world of the peace. All was good in the world, and was hoped to plan this way. Who knows what will happen in the future?
