I was wondering how long it goes without a person making a move before Smash presumes they quit and you get a win by default? Plus, I was wondering if these games are even being kept up with anymore. If not, then I figure why bother playing?

Your call.
There doesn't seem to be much interest in records and what not.Its hard to organize anything as this format takes a long time to play.A tournament, for instance, could take years.People may die before completion http://forums.civfanatics.com/ubb/wink.gif
Suggestions?

Sure, let's start a league. The league games would have certain guidelines to speed them up with Smash being the judge for discrepancies. I suggest that once your opponent makes a move you should make your move within 24 hours being a rule for league games. Smash could allow for extra time if someone needs it (like if they are going out of town, for instance) But THIS WOULD NEED TO BE ARRANGED AHEAD OF TIME. Now of course unforeseen emergencies may come up too, so that would be taken up with Smash when you can get back. Smash could declare a winner if their opponent hasn't made a move or emailed Smash within 3 or 4 days.
People who don't want to go by these guidelines can choose to play a non-league game. This way those who have interest in playing this format but don't want to have to wait around forever not knowing if their opponent is going to make a move or not can have some reassurance that everything is under control.
These are just suggestions. Take what you like and leave the rest.

How about a ladder not a league? You can challenge the person 1 or 2 above you. If the challenger loses, no change. If the challenger wins, he takes the loser's place, and the loser (and the person in the middle if there is one) moves down one. Start off in rough strength order.
Your day per move is desirable, but what happens when someone goes on holiday for a week or two?

The ladder sounds like a the best idea! It would allow players who likes to play a lot to play all they want and vise versa.
