View Full Version : The Despot Thread
Chieftess May 01, 2003, 08:52 PM Out from the wilderness, tribal leaders gather around one man. The man speaks of leadership, of conquest of their enemies - the barbarian raiders that constantly rain down upon the villages, and acquiring wealth. This is the NPC Despot, Markus Viviano (OOC: I sure hope we have Rome or something. ;)).
Character Name: Markus Viviano
Character Gender: Male
Character Stat: dead
Character Health: no vital signs
Character Age: 29
Caste: (NPC Character)
Agility - 5
Discipline - 20
Charisma - 20
Constitution - 5
Intelligence - 15
Belligerent, Intellectual, Tracking
Markus is a ripe young leader, from a roving militia family that have fought off Barbarians. Having had his father taken away by Barbs, and his uncle turn on his village, he trusts no one, not even his advisors. He also likes wealth and has plenty of possessions from his hunting activities.
Civanator May 01, 2003, 09:01 PM Hmmm..... 5 agility? hehe. Oh nothing.
Chieftess May 01, 2003, 09:02 PM Markus Viviano: [Address to the militia family] My colleagues! Once again, the barbarians are being sent in from the north! Assemble our axemen and men with wooden spears! The encampment is just beyond the light forest about a day's walk (OOC: 8 miles) from here.
Little did they know, that the despot had planned a 2nd barbarian invasion from the east. The people were restless, but still didn't believe their lives were in any great danger. "People only react in fear" was the despot's motto, and he knew that this would be a motivation. The ONLY motivation to get what the despot wanted:
There were sightings of plentiful deer and other game to the east. Not in mass quantities, but enough to sustain a small village. There were also brilliant colored stones and rocks that the despot wanted as their palace. There was a hostile tribe in that direction that the people refused to confront. The despot had actually hired some mercinaries to 'scare' the poplace. Still, the despot doesn't trust them 100%...
Immortal May 01, 2003, 09:29 PM John Moretti walks along the grass path on his way to work, he grumbles about the barbarians, about Monica's loud mouth, when he suddenly sees the leader himself, Markus Viviano. Surrounded by his entourage, he approaches John, peculiar, he thinks
Markus: You, I've noticed you before, you are the runner correct? He stares at John, John keeps his head down, for fear of insulting his most sovreign leader
John: That's right, is there anything I can do for you? John looks up
Markus: I'm always seeking to expand the territories, do you not agree this is a worthy goal?
John: Absolutely, we may need more food in the future.
Markus: HA! Food, it may be a decent idea to look into that afterward, but for now, I need you to serve me. Will you? or must I look to someone else to help our people?
John: Oh no, I wouldn't think of turning down an offer like this, what can I do for you? Anything, just ask, Ill do it.
Markus: Good, you can serve me well, I need you to head past the deer hunting grounds to the east, and look to see what lies beyond. Wealth, or doom, your return will be the only indicator of which.
John: I have a companion, may she accompany me as well?
Markus: If you so desire.
and with that, Markus turned and left, one of his men pushes john into the mud as he follows behind his master, toward his personal living space
Chieftess May 01, 2003, 09:38 PM The despot then returns to his quarters, and lights a fire. This is his signal...
(OOC: and the last post I will make for the despot. Any future despots can continue in this thread.)
Immortal May 01, 2003, 10:12 PM 2 hours later, as night descends on the land, John, Monica, and a few other villagers who desired to join them begin to pack in for the night, in the distance, they see a small plume of smoke rising from above the palace.
John: That sure has been burning for a while, I wonder what's going on...
Monica: maybe a feast for our safe return? she gives him a shove, then goes back to warming her hands with the campfire in front of them
John: Its a nice place, our lands, this will make a beautiful land to live in one day, when there are happier times. john shifts on the dirt, getting comfortable so he can try to sleep. Monica lays down next to him, they warm each other with their hands
Suddenly, a thundering is heard over the horizone, slow at first, however, it is slowly getting louder.....louder...faster.....Yelling is noticed from inside the thunder, john sits up
John: BARBARIANS! John runs toward the cart loaded with food and a handful sharpened poles he recieved from a friend in town. He hands them off to the others, including monica, and picks up a rock
Small pieces of wood, twigs almost, fly over the horizon and land all around john, as he runs toward the thunder, what strange weapons are these? he wonders. He looks to the left and sees a man, a stranger, younger then he, be penetrated by one of the flying sticks, he goes limp.
John is stopped for a moment as he sees what has happened, in that instant, a quiet whistle screeches toward him and imbeds into his shoulder, he screams and falls
Monica: (running toward him) are you okay? John nodds
Monica and the others run toward the approaching barbarians, their largest are in the front, not many of them, but they have superior weapons. Monica kneels down, holds her spear up as the enemy run by, ignoring her, one runs straight into the spear. She sees the look of horror on his face as she drops the spear and runs toward a fallen comrade to pick up his spear.
the battle ensues, when it is over, 5 barbarians passed through the scout group, leaving 8 of their fallen in the same field where 6 villagers lie dead,. 3 injured, including john.
Wasting no time, the remaining villagers, including john, still with the stick in his shoulder run toward the now engulfed villiage.
The scout group return to the villiage to find it damaged, luckily another group, a much better armed group was there to stop the barbarians, John returns to his and Monica's hut as she runs to the palace to check on the wellbeing of Markus
Monica: Sir! e did what we could, are you unharmed?
Markus: Quite actually, another group of mercenaries were present to stop the barbarians, how did they perform?
Monica: (out of breath) they looked like they had suffered many casualties, but their leader is surveying the damage outside
Markus: and the man I met with earlier today? (feigning interest)
Monica: he's hurt, but hell be okay, we lost 6 villiagers though, a few of them scouts and hunters. If there is nothing further sir Id like to check on john.
Markus: By all means, tke your leave.
Monica runs out the door, as markus takes a sip of his drink.
CivGeneral May 01, 2003, 11:01 PM Brashin Jade: Men!!!! This is an Axe, it will help you in the Fight against the barbarians
Soon in Noval Gontsky's Tent
Mara Jade II: We have a problem
Noval Gontsky: What is it?
Mara Jade II: We are being attacked by the Barbarians
Zarn: Our only hope is that our men knows what to do. Mara, I recomend that you stay behind and Take care of the Children/
Mara Jade II: Will do
Noval Gontsky looks out the Tent with his Father's Flint Dager. Brashin Jade leads his 10 Men and Col. Zarn marches his 10 Men.
The Battle raged on for hours. Crag Ors has hammered down 3 Barbarian Warriors.
Crag Ors: Oh this will be pleasurable
The battle raged on, The Group emerged victorious. Even tough The Jade Commandos has lost Half of there men. The men returned to camp
Noval Gontsky: Are you alright Zarn.
Zarn: yes, I just hope that Sky II made it through
Brashin Jade: He did, he has proven himself and he awiats you in your tent.
Noval Gontsky enters his tent
Plexus May 01, 2003, 11:16 PM Sage Atrous "Sir Markus!"
Markus "Sage Atrous. How hast the faired?"
SA "Quite good, my leige."
M "Oh, cut the crap, Sage... What brings you here?"
SA "My men are gathering, the Rouge are ready to help any way we can."
M "Good, carry on, sage."
SA "That I will, Markus..."
Chieftess May 01, 2003, 11:19 PM Plexus - your troops can't amass yet until Warrior Code. Amass sounds like an organized troop movement. "Gathering" would be a better term.
Plexus May 01, 2003, 11:19 PM Lol, ok, CT. :)
Civanator May 02, 2003, 07:05 AM Anthony and Nicole walk out of their hut
Anthony: Nicole, we must go and scout the land to the east and let everyone know of our findings. We must travel lightly, so bring this sharp stick, and I will bring this thing called an axe.
Nicole: But Anthony, what if you are injured? Or even captured? I won't leave without you.
Anthony: If I am wounded or captured you are to run as fast as you can to the village and find Noval Gontsky. Now come, the east awaits...
Anthony and Nicole walk off toward the east, a daring adventure into unknown lands...
ScorpiusAP May 02, 2003, 09:49 AM *Scorpio enters into a large clearing from the wood with Julia close behind. There are many huts here and the villagers appear to be arming them selves, some are returning from battle. Scorpio makes his way to the biggest hut which has a few armed men outside.*
Scorpio: I come to lend my services to Markus Viviano. I seek an audience.
Guard: And the girl? Does she have uses?
Scorpio: The girl is with me and is none of your concern. I seek an audience with Markus Viviano, not with his intrusive guard. Go get him.
*One guard enters the hut.*
Immortal May 02, 2003, 01:17 PM Monica enters her hut to see the belongings gathered and John bandaged
Monica: Whats going on?
John: Were leaving he picks up a deerskin bag
Monica: Where are we going to go?
John: anywhere but here. Were going to head west, the barbarians havent come from that direction.
and with that the left, what became of them, would never be clear...or would it?
Civanator May 02, 2003, 04:15 PM Nicole stumbles and falls. Anthony catches her before she hits the ground (she was infront of him).
Anthony: Getting tired Nikki?
Nicole: No, I'm fine. Can we rest though?
Anthony: Sure. This land is amazing. There are alot of deer here.
Nicole: I think we should turn back, it is getting dark.
Anthony: You're right, let's go back.
They start heading back when a barbarian jumps out at them. The barbarian stabs Anthony in the leg and tries to catch Nicole. But she is to fast and runs. Anthony throws his axe at the barbarian and it gets lodged in its skull, the barb falls to the ground. Nicole runs as fast as she can to the village, Anthony's life depends on it...
IceEye May 02, 2003, 04:41 PM Randu and Emma suddenly cathes a girl running past them in the direction of the village. They stop her and ask her for her name and why she is running so fast. When they hear that her partner, Anthony, is wounded they begin to run to the place where he is.
They find him and bring him back to the village where the witch doctor takes care about Anthonys wounds.
Stuck_as_a_Mac May 02, 2003, 04:53 PM The four friends are walking to the camp, eager to get home after a long days hunt
Jenna: SaaM... God you're a wimp
SaaM: What? Is it my fault I listen to the elders tell the stories instead of go and roll round rocks?
Jenna: Uh.. yea. And you, Jackie. All you do is blow into those dam logs.
Jackie: Hey, they sound nice. Okay?
Bob: What about me? Arent you going to insult my near-insane prohpetic visions?
Jenna rolls her eyes
SaaM: If it makes you happy, Ill go join one of those military groups. Now, come on. Lets get home. I've heard reports of Barbarians.
Jenna: Well, thats what these axes are for. Borowed them from Mara Jade II. And, watch this.
She picks up the axes from their sheep-gut holding case. Holding one in each hand, she spins them around wildly, like a madwoman
Jenna: Ha!
The friends finnaly make it out of the forest and into the towns. Hearing that there are barbarians located nearby, they rereat to their homes. SaaM goes to visit the Jade Commandos to help with his lack of military training, taking Jenna with him
maxell May 02, 2003, 06:20 PM Marxis emerges from a cluster of tree's
What land is this? a land of pride no doubt, and of trouble. I shall aide this wandering fools in their quest for sovereignty from a fledging barbarian invasion. Although, what first to mind, is, what shall hey give in return for my services? Bah, it of no matter, for now. If this despot belivieves I will answer to him, then he has surely lost his min. However, if I were to be compensated for my troubles, that may persuade me to do otherwise...
Civanator May 02, 2003, 06:29 PM Anthony was taken to Niven's Hut in the woods. There he lies on a bed.
Anthony: Thank you Randu and Emma, I wish there was a way I could repay you? And also, thank you Niven for your hospitality.
Randu: We must all help each other to live in this harsh environment. No need to repay us.
Niven: Aye, Randu is wise. We must stay together for now.
Nicole: Thank you. Niven, if it isn't too much, may I stay with Anthony for tonight?
Niven: Yes, please stay.
Anthony and Nicole thank Randu and Emma again before they leave.
Anthony: Niven, do you think the village doctor treated my wound correctly?
Niven: I do not know. I will check if you want.
Nicole: Please do.
Niven checks the wound. He finds a small smear off bee venom.
Niven: That doctor was out to get you! He put bee venom in your wound. This won't be a problme, but it will puff and cause a great pain. All you can do is rest and drink this tea.
Anthony: Thank you Niven.
Nicole (as Niven was talking): How horrible! I will get even with that doctor!
She storms out after Niven is finished, before Anthony can stop her.
OOC: IceEye, is that alright?
ScorpiusAP May 03, 2003, 10:17 PM *Scorpio was eventually led inside. After much unheard conversation, Scorpio was given the job of one of the despot's many armed hirelings. In return Scorpio received a minimal amount of food and shettle for himself and Julia. Scorpio's prowess in battle was mighty though and his loyalty strong.*
Bootstoots May 04, 2003, 07:43 AM John W. Boots meets with Markus as he is recovering from his arrow wound
Boots: How are you doing, Markus?
Markus: Just fine. The arrow wound's almost healed.
Boots: You know, we could achieve greatness together, if you make me your deputy.
Markus: I am the despot! I would never do that!
Boots: Fine, then. I will achieve greatness myself!
Boots storms off to his hut
Chieftess May 04, 2003, 08:35 AM Everyone! Please look in the event thread (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?s=&postid=959015#post959015) to see if your character has died or not. 13 turns have passed in the demogame.
Bootstoots May 04, 2003, 05:53 PM Stuk Aza Peesea walks up to the hut of Markus Vivano and enters it
Aza: Hello, Markus. I was too young to remember when I saw you last.
Markus: Yes, I remember you. You were the toddler we picked up upon dispersing a barbarian encampment.
Aza: I was just wondering if you'd accept this petition.
Aza hands Markus a petition requesting more time to hunt rather than work in mines and farms for the whole day
Markus: I don't think I can do this. We need you to...
Markus never got to finish his sentence. As he read the petition, Aza pulls out the flint knife that was once a possession of John W. Boots. With a quick jabbing motion, Aza stabs Markus in the heart with the knife.
Markus: Aaah! I'm dying!
Markus drops to the ground, dead.
Aza: With the frail old despot dead, I hereby proclaim myself the new despot of our fair nation! I am promoting myself to High Gentry, and I will be our leader from this point forward!
Chieftess May 04, 2003, 05:58 PM Narration: And so the powerstruggle begins. There was infact, a 2nd character who claimed that he already struck the fatal blow before Aza killed the despot... The vacuum begins...
Strider May 04, 2003, 06:01 PM *Vincent is sitting inside of his house when he hear the news of the the despot*
Vincent: Yet another...
Darci: There is not much we can do about it though, but try to make the best of it!!
Vincent: Yes... I know... I know... but... argh.... I'm a military strategists!! If only I had troops to led!! I could overthrow the despot....
Darci: That would be a very un-wise move though. What if you fail?
Vincent: I don't care... I'm just tired of this lifestyle.... I could care less what happens... If even the despot hires me to work for him. I just want something to change about this.
Darci: Yes, I know, but what about everyone else? All our friends?
Vincent: Screw them... Let's worry about ourselves now.
Darci: How can you say that??!!
Vincent: We have to worry about ourselves... and the baby.
*Vincent watchs as Darci storms away in anger*
Civanator May 04, 2003, 06:15 PM Antonius is there...
Antonius: I was the one who killed the despot! I fled the scene because I heard someone coming, and the someone was Aza! I had a posion covered knife, and thought to stab him in the heart, but found his stomach. By the time Aza stabed him, the posion would have started taking effect, the despot was dead before he died! and I have proof!
Antonius shows a stab wound in the former despot's stomach. Everyon gasps.
Antonius: I should be the rightful despot! So I challenge you, Aza, to a duel to the death, and victor becomes despot!
OOC: Conflict manager, you take over if Aza accepts the challenge. I think it should be by stats...
Noldodan May 04, 2003, 06:21 PM (Nambanoldo takes to the soapbox for the last time...)
(The scene is the Noshuret square, Nambanoldo standing on the podium formerly used by Markus. Stuck is standing in the assembled crowd, bodyguards, little more than thugs, surrounding him.)
Namba: People of Noshuret! Our Despot, Stuck aza Peesea, has recently claimed to have killed Markus Viviano, and earned his place as Despot! But I have this to say to you! What you do not know is that my son, Poldohtar Taurnaina, landed the true killing blow, an arrow into Markus' back! So HE should be the true Despot! I implore you, ---- Ack! (Gurgling noises, then he slumps over, three arrows protruding from his chest. Stuck takes the podium...)
Stuck: People of Noshuret! I am your Despot! These are lies! Now! Get back to your work, and stop this petty bickering over your leader!
(Back at Namba's hut...)
Poldo: Mom dead this winter... Dad dead now... And it's all Stuck's fault! Stuck must die...
EDIT: Ack! Simul-post! Can I get the credit since I posted the information about the death first, in my thread? Or did it have to be here?
Plexus May 04, 2003, 07:02 PM Sage Atrous: Noshuretians! These fools who claim the seat of power are no more deserving of the position than a mule. I am the rightful despot, I am the rightful ruler!
*A group of Sages dart out of the corners, weapons trained at the false despots*

Good thing Poldohtar's back at the hut.
ScorpiusAP May 04, 2003, 07:29 PM Jason: Now let's try to stay calm. Now we don't nessesarily need to have a huge brawl. We all know how great I am and that I would win. I propose we end all of this fighting with a race. The fastest among us will become the despot. Oh and by the way, I should be the despot, because I'm the greateset person here.
Bootstoots May 04, 2003, 07:32 PM Aza: The claims of Antonius are completely unfounded! The old dictator was alive and talking when I stabbed him, and he had no such wound in his stomach. That stab wound was made after the killing, and there is no way he could have been dead before I arrived! I accept your challenge to a duel, just to prove that it is I and not this miserable pretender that can lay claim to the position of despot in our fair country! Atrous, you have completely false claims, you can't even substantiate them, and I refuse to give even give you the opportunity to fight me! Antonius, let's go! As for Poldohtar, I will remain on guard and will repel any attack by him.
Stuk Aza Peesea pulls out his knife and prepares to duel
EDIT: CT, you might want to change Markus' character status. One thing we can all agree on is that he's dead.
EDIT#2: Included Poldohtar.
Noldodan May 04, 2003, 08:10 PM I seem to have been bypassed... :(
Bootstoots May 04, 2003, 08:50 PM Chieftess, we need permission to kill each other in this duel, which will be determined by the Conflict Manager (unless the Game Manager determines duels).
Shaitan May 04, 2003, 09:04 PM OOC
A poisoned knife in the belly, a knife in the heart and an arrow in the back. That's a bad day.
This would all be avoided if you passed your intent to kill the despot to the Conflict Manager before writing it here. The Conflict Manager would then decide who won what and then the players can do their stories.
Bootstoots May 04, 2003, 10:06 PM It's more fun if there's some anarchy! We do have to get permission to kill, don't we? Or, can duels be decided by the Conflict Manager alone?
Octavian X May 05, 2003, 01:36 AM Yes, next time you have the urge to kill, fight, etc. notify me in the conflict thread.
So far, from what I can tell, the emperor is indeed dead. He who takes his place, however, must be determined by the players. As no line of sucession was left by the previous ruler, people will now have to start invoking old loyalties and taking out enemies to see who gets the throne.
However, so far as I can tell, the only person really in the lead is Sage Atrous. Unless I'm very much mistaken, the other people vying for power are not more than 15, while Sage Atrous is in his 20's.
By the way, I didn't tell you, but rumors from a nearby village suggest that it's powerful leader is growing jealous of Fanatica*, and may use his military 'might' to take the nation for himself...
Bootstoots May 05, 2003, 06:29 AM We need you to resolve our duel.
Civanator May 05, 2003, 02:09 PM OOC: I had permission from CT in the chatroom, but you beat me to it, so for a twist, I added my part.
Civanator May 05, 2003, 02:52 PM A stunningly beautiful girl, Aurelia, comes running trhough the crowds.
Aurelia: WAIT!!!!!! STOP!!! DON'T FIGHT!!! (She runs on to the podium, where Antonius and Aza are). I won't let you duel. Not for something as silly as this. Look at you two. You must stop now. Haven't you heard? A neighboring village is trying to conquer us, and there are barbarians to the north. What about that barbarian who is pure? Are you going to find them? No. You two are going to fight over the throne of the village, and plunge it into more anarchy!
Antonius: I guess that is a good point...
OOC: bootstoots, waiting for you...
Bootstoots May 05, 2003, 03:05 PM Aza: Okay, Aurelia, I see your point. It would be pointless to continue the fight. I will offer Antonius this compromise: We will not fight each other and will be at peace, not trying to kill each other. I will make you my second-in-command, as you clearly show leadership capabilities. Do you accept?
Octavian X May 05, 2003, 05:01 PM Just as the action has appearently come to an end, an villager, Octavian II, steps up to the stage. He was generally respected as an intelligent peasent, as was reknowned for his peaceful ways in this violent era.
"This touching alliance of two people will do nothing to end the conflict for the throne. There are still many other parties vying for a chance to rule the nation, while external enemies present a thread from abroad. Only a strong person should lead this nation, so I suggest that those who wish to claim the throne participate in a tournament to decide who is the strongest, and who will win the throne."
Conflict Manager taking over: All those interested in participating to gain the throne, post here in the next 24 hours. After that time period, fights will begin, with outcomes based on a formula based on a character's stats.
Bootstoots May 05, 2003, 05:14 PM Aza: As the rightful current despot, I claim the throne for myself and my second-in-command will be Antonius. Antonius is hereby promoted to high gentry unless he rejects our compromise.
Civanator May 05, 2003, 07:38 PM Antonius: Aza, I accept your compromise. (turns to Aurelia.) I would like to know, Aurelia, If you will be my mate throughout our lives.
Aurelia: Yes. Yes Antonius I will.
Antonius (turning to Aza): Will you accept this proposal?
Aza: Yes, I will.
Antonius: Thank you. And now that we are on the same side, we must portect the throne. My agility and intellect, your strength and knowledge of the world can stop anyone from conquering us. But we must be wary of our enemies.
Cheetah May 05, 2003, 07:45 PM A man comes out of the crowd. He is recognised as Sargon, and is well armed, with spear, bow and a few knives. Though many people feel uneasy around him, he is still respected for his fighting and hunting skills.
Sargon: I'd hate to interupt in this little quareling of yours, but I bring bad news. As I was hunting two days ago, I saw fires in the horizon. The barbarians are on their way, so so you all better go for a leader fast, and arange the proper defense of the village. Oh, and would someone here be interested in trading a leather armour for a few of these pelts?
Bootstoots May 05, 2003, 08:30 PM Aza walks up to a stand in the center of the village
Aza: To all citizens of our nation: Sargon has brought us troubling news. The barbarians are near here, and will probably attack within a few days. We shall build up a force to defend us. I will call on the Jade Commandos to assist us to repel them. We must end our petty quarrels and accept myself as the new Despot and Antonius as second-in-command. All able-bodied men and women are also called on to come to arms and help defend our city!
Aza walks back to his hut to discuss strategy and available weaponry with Antonius and Noval Gontsky.
Civanator May 05, 2003, 09:25 PM Aza, Noval Gontsky, and Antonius are discussing their strategy.
Antonius: Maybe we can have the mercenaries around to help us. We need all of the men we can get. Also, there is an omen. There is a pure barbarian. (Antonius turns to a servant.) Go find Marvcus, he will know the omen.
OOC: someone can take it from here.
Plexus May 05, 2003, 09:37 PM Atrous: No! You must not take these inept children as your rulers! I am the most wise and eldest of the prospects. Who was defending our nation whence the first barbairians attacked? I was among those on the front lines, my leadership potential is not to be questioned.
Bootstoots May 05, 2003, 10:29 PM Aza emerges from the hut to talk with Atrous
Aza: But, Atrous, you are as old as the previous despot, who was 29. You will be dead of old age soon. I am an adept, strong young ruler, who will serve this nation for many more years. I would be willing to make you my advisor, as you clearly have many years of experience and wisdom. You may join the three of us in the hut if you accept my offer.
Aza goes back into the hut, to talk of more plans.
Aza: (to Antonius) Yes, I have plans to hire the Jade Commandos. I believe that we should find the pure barbarian with great haste, as he may prove to be of much help. (to Noval) Will you agree to join us with your commandos, Noval Gontsky?
Aza awaits Noval's response
Plexus May 05, 2003, 10:50 PM Atrous: My dear Aza, please do not attempt to know the future, I still have many a good year left in me. Now, I am willing to make you my advisor, perhaps even my heir. But at this point in time, I am the better man for the job. I know the will of the people, they trust me. Ask a random villager off the street. I am adamant in my position that I am the rightful emperor. You are a good man, that shows much potential, but I will rule this land.
Sheep May 06, 2003, 02:21 AM Futher down the track.
My dear Atrous: I indeed back your claim for the throne. In return I would like the Ginakis line to be raised into the upper classes. We have the power of words and learning and indeed we need to use this as much as axes and clubs in order to rule our great nation. Aza is indeed a good candidate too, but you have the xperience that years can only bring. Indeed name him as the Despotic heir, the Ginakis family will too support and guide him in his endevours.
disorganizer May 06, 2003, 02:30 AM Elenora: My dearest friend Atrous, i will surely stand by your side! Noone else shall claim the throne! These false rulers shall get what fate had planned for them... Arony, the godess of waters, is with us!
Elenora takes her weaponry and stands ready to fight together with Atrous. There seems to be more into this relation than can be seen from the outside
Noldodan May 06, 2003, 05:53 AM (Poldohtar Taurnaina, filled with rage against Stuck asa Pessea, comes storming out of his tent into the milling crowd, armed with his trusty sling and axe.)
Poldo: Where is Stuck! Ah! There he is! (He shoves his way through the crowd to Stuck) You killed my father! Now I must kill you...
Stuck, with fear: Whoah. Wait a second here buddy. The Barbarians are closing in on the city, and the last thing we need right now is a power struggle. So will you kill me here, or help to fight the Brabarians.
Poldo, staring at the crowd: Well... We'll settle this when the Barbarians are dead! Now where are we asseembling?
Cheetah May 06, 2003, 06:45 AM Sargon: Are there noone who will trade a leatherarmour for some of this game? Well then. I will shortly head back to the wilderness to continue the hunting. I hope you are succesfull in fending of the barbarians.
Bootstoots May 06, 2003, 06:47 AM Aza walks back to the hut, where Antonius is staying
Aza: Antonius, it appears that we have a problem. Atrous is claiming the throne for himself, and he has many other supporters. We must relinquish our postion of power, with conditions. Aza tells Antonius his plan.
Aza walks back to the center of the town
Aza: I will make you the despot, Atrous, but I have four conditions that you must follow for me to adbicate in favor of you:
1. I will be your second-in-command and heir, and I will inherit the despotism upon your death.
2. Antonius will be your third-in-command.
3. Antonius and I will retain our promotions to high gentry.
4. You will protect me against any potential assassins, such as Poldohtar.
This deal will become effective upon your approval.
Aza awaits Atrous's response
ScorpiusAP May 06, 2003, 08:41 AM Jason: Has every one forgotten how great I am? I should be the despot! I say we fight in this tournament that was proposed.
Shaitan May 06, 2003, 01:22 PM * Marvcus and Germanicus enter Noshuret heading north. Both carry packs and the huge Goth also pulls a travois loaded with supplies. As always when the Karbala enters the town people begin following him to see what rites he will perform. This time they hang back quite a bit, cowed by Germanicus' impressive stature and questionable mein. The pair walk quickly and pass the Stone of Rites and then the Pool of Rites. When they also pass by the cairn of the Fire of Rites the townsfolk mutter. Surely the Karbala does not mean to use the Cliff of Rites, the place of purity for rites of the air? When the pair also passes by the trail to the cliff the people express their dismay. *
Townie: Karbala! Great one! Do you mean to pass us by? Great danger has surfaced and our leaders are in turmoil.
Marvcus: I follow an augur, one more powerful than than the omens of Noshuret. I go north and when I return I shall have with me another who is pure and loved by the spirits. What tales could I tell you children that would weigh more heavily than that on the balance of my soul?
Second Townie: (kneeling in the companions' path) Oh, please! We beseech thee. We need your guidance for without it we are certainly doomed!
* Marvcus stops walking and turns to face the following townfolk. *
Marvcus: Very well. I will tell you what I have seen for Noshuret though I would have preferred to save you the pain of knowing.
* Marvcus breaths deeply and his eyes roll back into his head. He begins swaying rythmically and the wooden hoops pierced all over his body click against each other like dried bones. *
Marvcus: The great wolf of the hill pack grew weak and was slain by his kin. As the steam rose from his rended flesh, the three brothers, with blood hot in their maws did circle each other. They were well matched and none knew which would prevail. In a flash they attacked, tearing at each other, ripping, rending. They battled mightily and none were cowed. At the same moment they broke apart, each nursing his own wounds and limping away. Perhaps they would all have fought another day but Aranna, that mischevous spirit of the air, had brought the smell of the great wolf's death to another pack nearby. Emboldened by the smell of their rival's blood they attacked the hill pack. None of the brothers had the strength left to fight. Their mates and cubs were slain in front of them and the brothers died under the fangs of their enemies, the cracking of their own bones their last sense of the living world.
* Marvcus swoons and falls but Germanicus is their to catch him. He supports the Karbala until Marvcus comes back to himself and stands on his own. *
Marvcus: And so is the fate of Noshuret. As you act like spoiled children tugging at a prize while your gravest doom approaches. Come, Germanicus, we have far to walk this day.
* Germanicus picks up the travois and the two continue on their way, leaving the stunned townfolk behind. *
Civanator May 06, 2003, 02:33 PM Antonius: Have you people forgotten? The barbarians will attack us!
Faint horns are heard in the distance.
Antonius: See? They are already coming! We will settle any matters when we repel them. TO ARMS!
Bootstoots May 06, 2003, 03:11 PM Aza grabs his knife
Aza: We must repel these barbarians! Everybody must take whatever weapons they can and come to arms! Accept Atrous as your leader and myself as his heir and come to fight these barbarians! Germanicus and Marvcus have abandoned us! We are on our own now, and must fend for ourselves!
Battle cries are heard very near Noshuret.
Aza: Quick, they are but minutes away!
Antonius: We must be armed now!
An arrow shoots out of the woods, missing Antonius by inches and striking the ground near Aza's hut
Aza: We are under attack! We must come out and meet these barbarians!
A group of townspeople emerge from the hut with an assortment of weapons.
Antonius: Come, all who want to defend our city!
A second arrow shoots from the woods, striking a townie who had begged for Germanicus' and Marvcus' companionship. The townie was struck in the stomach, and is writhing around on the ground. A horde of more than 20 screaming barbarians emerges, running into Noshuret and shooting arrows.
Cheetah May 06, 2003, 03:22 PM Suddenly the three first barbarians fall to the ground - hit by arrows from somewhere. Then Sargon shows himself by one of the huts, holding a bow in his arms.
Sargon: And I who was supposed to have left by now. I'll guess I'll join you in the fight afterall.
Civanator May 06, 2003, 03:35 PM Antonius arms his bow and shoots 2 arrows into the raging horde.
Antonius: Fight people, fight! We have everything to lose!!!
He loads 2 more arrows and shoots
Bootstoots May 06, 2003, 04:06 PM A barbarian approaches the hut where Aza is staying, carrying a bow and a quiver full of arrows. Aza waits until he is near and attacks him with his knife, slitting his throat and taking his bow and arrows.
Aza: I have a bow and arrows!
Aza takes his bow and fires an arrow into the horde of barbarians. One barbarian screams and falls to the ground. He prepares to fire another arrow when a barbarian arrow strikes him in the left arm. No arteries are pierced, and it is a superficial wound. Aza rips the arrow out of his arm and fires a second arrow at what seems to be a barbarian in a long robe. The barbarian screams and falls, an arrow protruding from his chest.
Aza: Yes! I got another one!
Atrous: Aaah! I'm hit!
Aza runs over to Atrous and sees that he had accidentially fired an arrow into the new despot Atrous' chest.
Aza: Atrous! I am terribly sorry; I did not mean to hit you. I thought you were a barbarian! Please don't die!
Atrous: I am gravely wounded. The arrow did not pierce my heart, but it did strike my right lung. I am losing blood rapidly, and I will probably die. Take me to your hut, Aza, so that I may be in peace.
As the battle rages around him, Aza carries the gravely wounded Atrous to his hut
Octavian X May 06, 2003, 04:14 PM Conflict Manager: Good try, boots. You can't kill off Atrous just like that. You'll find that that lies in my jurisdiction.
Boots' last addtition to the storyline is ruled invalid.
Stuck_as_a_Mac May 06, 2003, 04:28 PM A shot is fired from behind a tree. It is an arrow made of pure Jade. A second arrow follows. Both pierce barbarians, directly in the heart.
Aza: What a spectacular shot! Who here is such a marksman?
Lauren (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?postid=961745#post961745) : Markswoman.
Aza: But thats impossible! Youre a girl!
Lauren: Really.. Then you wouldnt mind me aiming at.. oh, say your head...
Aza: Nevermind...
Lauren: Good. Now, I am a Jade Commando. With me I bring my assistant, William. Say hello, William.
William: Hi.. Please dont leave her alone with me...
Lauren: Be quiet! Dont mind him.. Hes just afriad of women who wear pants. Well, we must run now. Say goodbye, William
William: Help!
Lauren: Good boy. Ta ta
Bootstoots May 06, 2003, 04:34 PM Aza: Hello, William and Lauren, and thank you for helping us fight the battle.
OOC: Sorry, I didn't know it was illegal to cause serious injury to someone.
Civanator May 06, 2003, 04:44 PM OOC: only to your own characters.
Antonius sees that the battle is almost over and inspects everyone. 8 villagers dead, 3 wounded.
Antonius: A glorius day for Fanatica, but not for those who have fallen.
Bootstoots May 06, 2003, 04:47 PM Anita Bath comes back to Aza's hut with a strange potion
Anita: Here's a potion, my master, that should heal you.
Atrous drinks the potion
Atrous: I am feeling better now.
15 minutes later, Atrous' wounds are healed miraculously. He leaves the hut and goes to fight.
OOC: This is the way I will repair my illegal actions.
Plexus May 06, 2003, 04:52 PM 1. I will be your second-in-command and heir, and I will inherit the despotism upon your death.
2. Antonius will be your third-in-command.
3. Antonius and I will retain our promotions to high gentry.
4. You will protect me against any potential assassins, such as Poldohtar.

These I will do, but know that with your and Antonius's passing, the Atrouian line will reinherit the despotism, and your line will be highly ranked among the ruling classes.
Bootstoots May 06, 2003, 04:54 PM Aza: Then we are agreed. We have a battle to fight!
Ehecatl Atzin May 06, 2003, 05:00 PM Izcoatl-- the wounded shall need care, where is the witch doctor?-
Izcoatl walks towards Atrous and wispers to him- do not worry old friend, I shall also back up your claim to power, no one else is better suited- Izcoatl and Atrous leave the rest of the people and go off somewhere else, more secluted, a bit affar from the battle lands, under a tree atop one of the hills overlooking the village. It is dusk and puffs of smoke can be seen rising from the lands where the dead are being buried in pires
Izcoatl- these barbarians.. no mere coincidence..their attack I mean...
Atrous- What do you mean Izcoatl?
Izcoatl- surely you know the last despot used a barbarian tribe to gain control of your people, who's to say the move was not copied by someone else...
Atrous- Do you mean, Aza?... he couldn't...
Izcoatl- I'm not sure, but I did meet these barbarians before, on my travels to the south, they had no interest in our lands, they spoke of another visitor, before me
Atrous- Do you think it could have been Aza? the visitor I mean.
Izcoatl- I don't know..- Izcoatl looks to the north, into the far off waters and sighs- I'm old Atrous...I may not look it, my knowledge of plants here have kept me young, in apperance at least.. I need to make one more travel before I'm certain.. there is another barbarian tribe to the west of here, they had ties with those that recently attacked us, maybe they know something we don't. I need to see them.
Atrous- but you may not make it
Izcoatl- I know, but if I don't remember that Aza must not reach power... he musn't!-
With this, Izcoatl descended the hill and made his way off to the west, as Atrous looked on his old friend with a sense of gratitude and worry.
ScorpiusAP May 06, 2003, 05:09 PM Jason: Ah, what a glorious battle! I was great, wasn't I? But as a great person I also recognize the greatness of Atrous. I support our new despot and pledge my services. You will find that I'm very fast and have many uses.
Plexus May 06, 2003, 05:14 PM Atrous: Yes, your actions were truly great and valient, Jason. You are among the bravest of warriors. Yet, there will still be many a battle to wage, our position is still a precarious one.
Cheetah May 06, 2003, 06:09 PM Sargon: Now that the battle is over, I'll say goodbye for now.
Sargon turn around and walk out into the wilderness, stepping over several dead barbarian corpses.
Cyc May 07, 2003, 10:12 AM Briefus sees Sage Atrous coming down the hill, and quickly escorts him to the Palace. Once inside, Briefus posts men at the entrance way and secures the Palace. He then has Katra, his pregnant wife, tend to the new Despot's wound.
"Sage Atrous, you must set up your new government immediately. Time is short and in these troubled times, your health and safety is my prime concern."
Briefus checks the area visually while he pours some Noshuret wine for the Great Leader. He then returns, handing the wine to Atrous.
"You must speak to the people as a group, when your health returns. Tell them of the news and your plans for them. Talk to them of the future and explain the plans of inheiritance. We do not have much time. The people await you. "
ScorpiusAP May 07, 2003, 12:37 PM *Jason takes his place outside the palace doors, awaiting the despot's comands.*
CivGeneral May 07, 2003, 04:46 PM Maximilian Gontsky II walks infront of the Despots grand hut. He noticed that there are several guards in place
Atrous: Are you here to see the Despot?
Maximilian Gontsky II: Yes I am, My father is soon to exchange the Jade Commandos to my control
Atrous: Wait here
Soon Atrous enters the great hut
OOC: I was not sure what the name of the place where the Despot reside
Stuck_as_a_Mac May 07, 2003, 07:17 PM A side note:
Lauren DiSaaMuel is pleased to announce the marriage of her to a theologian/godless merchant, Pinky. Lauren could not be reached for comment, but Pinky was quoted as saying, "Narf!" Lauren is also pregnant and the babies are due any day now.
William Roberts married Julia (OCC: Sorry. Couldnt resist using that name), a local girl. Their children are due shortly as well.
That is all for a short note.
Ehecatl Atzin May 09, 2003, 01:54 AM As Atrous begins to settle his bussiness for the day in his hut, he hears a rumbling of leaves outside, being crushed by footsteps... murmurs...people talking, he cannot discern who. Sudenly a flas of light comes into the hut as the skins blocking the entrance are flung aside and a man enters, Atrous recognizes the figure imediatly, Izcoatl. He has returned from the west and he hopes, with good news.
Atrous-- Izcoatl! what a good time for you to arrive...
Izcoatl-- Atrous, it is good to see you, friend. I see you have taken leadership of your people, that is comforting to know.
Atrous-- but tell me, what of the barbarian tribe to the west?
Izcoatl-- alas my search has been for naught, their huts lie in ashes and coal, nothing but burnt bones lie among their fields...
Atrous-- attacked? by whom?
Izcoatl-- I do not know, there are many tribes around us, why just during my returned I viewed a group of people in the distance, surely another group searching for a home. As to whom, we may never know, it could have been Aza's people, it could have been something else entirely, but now that you have leadership, I hope we have nothing to worry about...--Izcoatl begins staring at the ground and turns around...
Atrous-- what is it Izcoatl?...what is it now
Izcoatl-- nothing, nothing... have you chosen a succesor? we aren't exactly young, old friend.
As Atrous is about to answer, Jason interrupts the discusion, entering abruptly into the hut...
Atrous-- what is it, Jason?
Jason-- terrible news....
ScorpiusAP May 09, 2003, 08:25 AM Jason: The strom has passed but not before taking one of our people. Acilius Gontskius Andrew is dead.
Atrous: No. . .
Jason: His house as struck by lightning and his house collapsed on him. It is surely a horrible loss, but now there are rumors spreading that the your house is cursed sir.
Izcoatl: What shall we do sir?
Stuck_as_a_Mac May 09, 2003, 03:15 PM Brian comes to the door of the despot
Brian: Can Helen come outside?
Bootstoots May 09, 2003, 04:10 PM Aza: Atrous, I have a request: Will you please grant me some land? I don't need much, a tile or two that produces at least one shield should do, but I would like to raise a group of bodyguards for me, to protect me from assassination. I will not, of course, use them to start an uprising, I would just want to be able to defend myself rather than have to rely on your guards to protect me.
Stuck_as_a_Mac May 10, 2003, 09:41 AM Brian aproaches Atrous
Brian: Oh Nobel Atrous, I, Brian DiSaaMuel, son of Lauren DiSaaMuel, ask only for your daughers hand in marriage
naervod May 10, 2003, 03:10 PM OOC: Does anyone's character have a son? *wink wink, nudge nudge*
Also, how does the despot decide who to promote, because I have a yearning to get out of this Lower Gentry class.
IC:
Sage Romana walks along a path through the forest. She bumps into Atrous and Izcoatl returning to their hut.
Romana: Good day, noble Sages.
Izcoatl: Good day, young Sage.
Atrous: Good day Sage Romana, what news of your cats?
Romana: Not good I am afraid. Two of my cats have not returned from hunting down Poldothar and his gang. Also, rumor has it that two more people have joined his group of rebels.
Atrous: This is not good, but we are still the stronger side. I want you to continue your effort to track down the assasins. Always be persistent, try and hit them as much as possible to keep them afraid.
Romana: Very good sir, good day to you.
Bootstoots May 10, 2003, 06:22 PM OOC: Atrous has declined our deal discussed in a private chat, whereby Aza would get domain over a plains square and the opportunity to build a warrior in return for relinquishing the position of heir to Atrous. However, he has given Aza command over a warrior unit, and Aza has taken an oath that he will not betray Atrous. If he breaks this oath, he will be executed.
Plexus, does Octavian need to grant approval of the raising of troops, or are the troops already raised automatically?
Plexus May 10, 2003, 06:44 PM Atrous: Aza, this deal is good for no one but your self. I decline.

Do you still know the secret place where we hided us from my brother?
Cyc May 11, 2003, 03:00 AM Ah, Helena, thank you. But it is I who is about to marry the jewel of Fanatica. I can not wait until your tender fragrance feels our home in Gorina. Soon we will have children of our own to play in the gardens.
And speaking of your question,...your childhood memory was always better than mine. If I were to make a guess about a secret hiding place, I would say the grand old tree. We used to lounge in its branches on summer afternoons, although I wasn't aware we were hiding from Tasius (the bold). I had other motives in mind...
Thank you Brian and Sentana. Please enjoy the best of what our wedding has to offer our guests. We shall see you there. Be aware that the entire Plaza will be heavily guarded, as safety will be a main concern.

Octavian X May 12, 2003, 10:50 PM Conflict Manager: Just beyond the hills of Gorina lies the small town of Regia Flavia. The town and it's surrounding territory is controlled by one Nero Viviano, a distant relative of the old emperor, Markus Viviano. From his seat of power, he has watched the smaller village of his younger cousin grow to a new flourishing country ruled by an old enemy of his family rivaling the power of his town.
He grows jealous and angry of the prosperity of Atrous and Fanatica. He had planned an immeadate attack, but his advisors have succesfully persuaded him to not attack for 5-10 years, convincing him that by then the new empire will collapse. All the same, he has sent messengers throughout the Fanatican Empire, telling the citizenry that if they swear loyalty to him, they will gain much power after his invasion...
OOC: Summary: Fanatica will be attacked after the next turn chat, on Thursday. If you think that it'll be succesful, you can post here or PM me to swear loyalty to Nero...
Sir John May 13, 2003, 02:15 AM Why should you be sucsesfull? Do you even have any troops??
disorganizer May 13, 2003, 05:36 AM Helena:
Hy daddy, it is strange to communicate with you from the distance, but i just wanted to bring you good news:
ITS A BOY AND A GIRL!
you are finally a grandpa!
Praeditus Lifespanius Maximus has much of his father, but Diutia Lifespanius Bellona goes more into my kind :-)
You must visit us soon to see them play!
Diutius and us are now living in Gorina, but we are very concerned about the recent rumors that we will not live in peace there. I would really like to see some of your troops to protect us, as we are not able to raise troops at the moment ...
Yours loving,
Helena
OOC:
this is obviously an event. so no player action, but an ingame event which occurs from time to time :-) its not one of octavians characters, and as such we will be attacked by foreigners :-)
Bootstoots May 13, 2003, 06:38 AM Aza: I will swear loyalty to Atrous in this attack. However, as we will both die soon, I ask that control of my warrior unit be passed to my son Honorius upon my death, so that he may fight Nero Viviano.
disorganizer May 13, 2003, 06:42 AM i would like to state that the warrior controlled by helena will be stationed to protect her family. also, the controll will be given to her daughter upon her death and on the daughter's death reverts to her helenas brother.
Sir John May 13, 2003, 07:59 AM Janus Nero: Me and My brother will give you full support, Atrous. We will defend you with our lives. We can assure you that we will not listen to the fools that the enemy sends to lure our fellow countrymen into betraying you...
Stuck_as_a_Mac May 13, 2003, 09:38 AM Lauren: Ahh.. To go down fighting... That is my dream! I hereby support Atrous, as I allways have. This will indeed be a war, and I lend my full support to it. Walter will stay behind for personal reasons and to watch over Katie .
Noldodan May 13, 2003, 02:42 PM OOC: Noldodan whistles aimlessly, waiting for the results of Laitatan's execution
Civanator May 13, 2003, 03:59 PM Antonius and Justinius are talking
Antonius: Justinius, even though you are a great warrior, you must stay and help me protect Aurelia and Antony in case the enemy attack is succesful. But, since we have time, I want you to kill all the enemy's messengers that are spreading propaganda. On the first sign of attack, rush back to the palace, Aurelia and I will be waiting.
Justinius leaves the hut to track down the messengers
OOC: Oct, maybe you can have an x number of messengers, and Justinius tracks one at a time?
Bootstoots May 13, 2003, 04:35 PM A warrior comes toward Laitatan, wielding a large stone axe.
Warrior: It is time for your execution.
The warrior lays Laitatan on the floor, with two assistants holding him down. The warrior swings the axe, hitting Laitatan's neck and severing his head in one blow. Laitatan's head is presented to Atrous.
OOC: This was determined by Oct, I am just posting it. He may confirm it.

No problem, no need for confirmation. I accept Laitatan's death with... resignation. Now to find a way to continue the story...

"There goes a silence that feels lilke several eternitys before she answers with a gentle voice:"
"Yes"
I am proud to announce the marriage of Cesar (last name?) to Sentana Decimus. The ceremony shall be held in Noshuret (with Atrous's permission). I also invite all citizens and nobles who can come to attend. I feel this is an upbeat change from the scene we observed at Laitatan's execution.
Sir John May 14, 2003, 01:56 AM Nero, Ceasar Nero :D
Stuck_as_a_Mac May 16, 2003, 06:50 AM Katie- Good Helena, I ask you for a simple request today. I wish for administrative powers of the fair city of Penguinadua. I wish to make it a nursery of the arts, a center of learning.
Cyc May 18, 2003, 08:48 AM Word is put out to the people of Fanatica that there is to be a speech of major importance by the Royalty today. The word is spread by soldiers, workers, all types of government people.
Soon, the nation is abuzz with the news of the speech in Gorina. Some people travel the sort distance from Noshuret to Gorina to listen. Has the War begun? Has the Despot died? What is this news? People everywhere talk of the speech.
Sir John May 18, 2003, 12:21 PM I have a suggestion for the great despot X (dont know his name yet). I think that you should in your greatness reward all noble houses that swear to protect you and your family one single piece of land each so that they can protect you even better. I am sure that evry noble house in Fanatica would swear loyality to you and use this land singelhandey to protect you.
BTW: This would also be a good thing if corruption is put on lands... Since we dont have a large amount of land yet, You could do it later, if you want to do it all. :D
Cyc May 18, 2003, 03:51 PM As the huge crowds gather outside of the Palace of Gorina, carpenters are just finishing up a large wooden stage. People start to climb the soft hills and knolls around the stage that seem to be carved out in a shell shape around it. The hills have been terra-planed slightly to produced small graduated levels, good for sitting on. As Diutius looks out from the Palace he estimates 1000 people. It is time.
Diutius steps out onto the stage accompanied by his close family, other Noblemen, and a contingent of high ranking Jade Warriors. There is a hush over the huge crowd.
Diutius throws his arms out to the crowds and then lets them fall to his side."People of Fanatica. I come to you this day in May of 1550bc with a message of Hope. Although we have been set adrift by the death of the great Sage Atrous, I intend to put us back on course with today's procession. Warriors raise your weapons, farmers lay down your tools, and workers cease building roads, for today will be a national day of rest. For we truly have cause to rest."
"Tasius (the Bold) brought his father to Gorina just before the great Sage Atrous passed on. After his father's death, we have not heard one word from him. He may have set off into the hills on a sabatical, but none the less, we as a nation have no sign of a Despot. We know Tasius married Princess Kaesa Atrous Aquilla, but no words have been heard from the Princess either."
"Therefore, as the highest ranking member of the Royal family, I Diutius Lifespanius, do hereby claim the title of Despot. I now have command of Fanatica's military might, and will preserve the core responsibilities of the ruling family. We are all countrymen of Fanatica, but there is only one Despot." At this point the increasingly noisy crowd comes to an overwhelming cheer. Again, Diutius raises his arms and shouts, "I am that man, and from this day forward, Fanatica will be ruled by the Lifespanius family!" The crowd which had quieted to hear the last statement again rises to its feet and cheers in a deafening acceptance of the new Despot.
Diutius bows to the crowds, then turns to his family and friends. After a few words with his wife, and then the military, he leads the way back to the Palace.
Bootstoots May 18, 2003, 04:02 PM Julius (upon hearing the speech): As stated earlier, I swear loyalty to the rightful new despot, Diutius. I think that he will be the best despot we can have. I will commit my troops (who are now back up to full strength after Honorius's attack) to Diutius's side in any battle that may occur from his accession to the throne. I do have one request, however, in return for my services to you: Will you make me the Prince of Penguinudua and the surrounding area, as you were made Prince of Gorina?
Cyc May 18, 2003, 04:09 PM Messengers are sent out to all the houses of Fanatica stating that the new Despot will make a proclamation of land distribution later. There are many duties of the title that must be handled first, and the Despot must attend to them. He did also say that upon his death, his son Maximus would inherit the throne.
Stuck_as_a_Mac May 18, 2003, 04:16 PM Diutius: Do you still want to get married (this is reagrdless of the fact you just grabbed the throne...)
Cyc May 18, 2003, 04:26 PM Katie, my dear, as you well know, I have been married to Helena for many years, she is my Queen. Praeditus Lifespanius Maximus has just been named bachelor of the decade. I would suggest you look in that direction. We can talk more later. :D
Stuck_as_a_Mac May 18, 2003, 04:30 PM OCC- Then why the heck did you use Concubine in the matchmaker post?
disorganizer May 18, 2003, 04:33 PM Helena:
Dearest Diutius... what are those rumors about a concubine which i hear from our citizens?
Stuck_as_a_Mac May 18, 2003, 04:37 PM Right here:
Character: Diutius Lifespanius
Whew! What a relief. I had so wanted to make Katie my Concubine. After I despose of this trivial assasination attempt, we should have a quiet conversation
http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?postid=987092#post987092
Stuck_as_a_Mac May 18, 2003, 04:39 PM Also- Can I be Princess of Penguinadua (ill drop the Concubine charges :) )
And thus, blackmail was born
Cyc May 18, 2003, 05:38 PM @ Stuck - Not only blackmail, but I smell the first wiffs of the Republican Party :).
@ Helena - Fear not, my love. The above statement was made in jest. You remember Katie. She's the one Lauren always called a spoiled brat. Pay no attention to her.
disorganizer May 18, 2003, 05:44 PM helena@diutius:
if i only could see a proove of your love, my dear... for so long i only could see you work... this makes women think in those directions, you know.
Stuck_as_a_Mac May 18, 2003, 05:52 PM Hey, at least I wasnt as bad as my aunt. Grandma had to go and kil.. make her leavr (yeah, thats the ticket!)
Besides, If she hated me so much, She wouldnt have given me the title and the bow and arrow.
BTW- OCC: Im a democrat. But if need br, i can start the Republicans along with the _________ (insert my religion name here)
Civanator May 18, 2003, 06:10 PM Antony: Salutations Despot Diutius. I would like to know if I may continue to be a personal advisor to the Despot. And my brother Achilles is willing to be your personal bodyguard. My wife is a skilled public speaker, and can help with your speeches. Achilles wife is almost the same, but she is a naturalist, and knows how to stop any poison that any soldier is wounded by.
Stuck_as_a_Mac May 18, 2003, 06:12 PM Katie: Well, all is forgiven Diutius. I am here with my two children to pledge absoulte loyalty to you.
Plexus May 18, 2003, 07:22 PM Tasius: Well, what exactly is going on here?
Cyc May 18, 2003, 08:09 PM "Tasius! You have returned from the wildernes. We have not heard from you for so long. It has been at least a dog's age since we heard from you or your wife." Diutius motions the guards to come a little closer.
"You look bewildered, confused. Are you in control of your senses?" asks the Despot from his throne.
"Of course I am in control of my senses! It's you people who have lost it!" shout Tasius (the bold). "I was promised the throne. It is I who should be ruling Fanatica."
Seeing the crazed look in the eyes of Tasius and noticing the "God complex" and the personality reversal (like it's US who have lost it :) ) Diutius says, "Of course, Tasius. Tell me, how long have you been living in the hills? Never mind. Guards, please escort Prince Tasius to the pools where he may bathe and regain his composure. Try to remain calm, Tasius. It will be much better for you." Diutius signals the guards to procede.
Bootstoots May 18, 2003, 08:42 PM Julius: I assume you will support my warrior unit as Atrous and Tasius did, until I receive land so that I can support it in my own right. Also, what things must be accomplished before land is granted? I think that you could be considered to have nearly complete control of the throne, as Tasius won't prove to be much of a problem, as he doesn't have supporters of his own. However, I will ask Tasius this question: Tasius, do you renounce your claim to the throne (you have no supporters)? I am calling on you to do so.
Sir John May 19, 2003, 02:10 AM Janus Nero: As the Head of The Nerano House, I will announce that me and my whole house swear loyality to you, Diutius, under any circumstances.... We are proud to protect you with our lives..
OOC: See trough the proposal I put up a few posts up. Iy just says despot x since I didnt know who were going to be depsot when I posted it... Tell me if you like it :D
Cyc May 19, 2003, 02:54 AM Yes, Janus. I am working on a list of land grants and promotions now. I was going with September Nero, as that named popped up recently, but if Janus is the head of the household, I will go with him to include the direct family. Others in volved in this list will be worthy citizens like Katie, Julius, and Antony. The available family lines are not being kept up by the citizens or the managment. I'm doing the best I can.
Cyc May 19, 2003, 04:13 AM In furthering the evolvement of our great nation, I have put forth this proclamation that shall be affect immediately. Changes may occur within this document as time moves on, but we need a starting point, and this is it.
First things first. This may come as a shock to you, but I believe it is the best for the nation. Because of its central location and its future growth potential, Gorina is hereby proclaimed the Capital City of Fanatica (just in the RPG). Our working Palace is located in Gorina, as is our family. Our knowledge of the area is more extensive and the opportunities for our citizens are more bountiful here. Good, now onto Land Grants and promotions. :)
As you know Queen Helena owns the land in and around Gorina. At present, these lands, except for the city, fall under a proposal of the queens for distribution under a new system. More on that later. The land Helena owns is outlined in blue on the map.
Beyond these lands, I have granted land use by some of our best citizens. These citizens will recieve a promotion to Nobility, either a Baron or Baroness, until such time as they are worthy of another promotion. At the present time, we are mustering Legions in each of the tiles to be used by the Nobility in charge of the tile, in service of the Despot. These troops will be used for protection of the tile, its citizens and assets. The Nobility will not bear the cost of the Legion in its tile, but the upkeep of the Legion will be their responsibility. Upkeep per Legion is 1 food and 1 shield. Income above and beyond the upkeep will be the possesion of the Baron(ess) in charge of the tile. This is subject to change as one's relationship with the Despot may change in the future or/and taxes may be applied. The map below shows colored tiles that have been granted for us by the person shown on the tile.
Pink - Katie - Given the title Baroness and use of a good land tile.
Maroon - Desmond Nevelis - Given the title Baron and the use of a good land tile.
Orange - Janus Nero - Given the title Baron and the use of a good tile.
Green - Julius, son of Aggripina - Given the title of Baron and the use of a good tile. Julius, your Legion will protect the city of Nar Shadda and the tile assigned to you. Any movement of your troops from your tile must be posted as per the troop movement rules. (This actually applies to all Nobles).
Yellow - Anthony - Given the title of Baron and the use of a good tile.
More to come later.

Shaitan May 19, 2003, 05:30 AM OOC: One concern - we don't have a ready source of iron for units yet. As we can't build legions in the game, we shouldn't be able to build them in the RPG. As we have the knowledge of ironworking individual characters could have iron weapons but we don't yet have the facilities to arm and equip full units with such items.
Stuck_as_a_Mac May 19, 2003, 06:04 AM Thank you, oh nobelest of despots. The DiSaaMuel family will treasure this peace of land.
Now which one of the kids gets it....
disorganizer May 19, 2003, 06:35 AM OOC:
shaitan: we considered iron to be available as soon as discovered in the last rpg. thats why we assumed it to be like that in this game. would propably make things easier... the rpg till now is not resource reglemented, but more or less tech reglemented.
as such, the units can be created as soon as the tech is there. if we dont do it that we we should also only allow businesses or people to create iron things if they walk up to the iron and build it there. or at least connect their business location with a road to the iron :-P
Bootstoots May 19, 2003, 07:02 AM Thank you for the grant of land, oh great despot Diutius. I will use that tile to supply my warrior unit with food and shields. I am right now moving myself and my unit to Nar Shaddaa to protect it.
Cyc May 19, 2003, 07:27 AM I'm going to have to agree heavily with Dis on that one, Shaitan. We are holding back many things because of the tech level of the DG. Now when we have discovered Iron, which is the tech need for the Legionary, you say we have to have an easily accessable source. We waited for the tech, slappin' us down until we satisfy a newly made rule is not a good thing to do. Dis is right, the RPG is Tech based.
Shaitan May 19, 2003, 07:51 AM I'm okay with either way, so long as we're consistant.
disorganizer May 19, 2003, 08:04 AM ooc@game management:
so maybe a clarifying sentence in the ruleset would do us good, ct :-)
Sir John May 19, 2003, 08:23 AM Janus Nero: My house are very greatfull for this trust you have shown us in granting us usage of this land... We will not betray your trust in our family... :D
OOC: Janus is the leader of the house untill he dies and then it wil be alexander, his son. September is Januses daughter. Im glad that you listened to my proposal to give out land to the noble familys. :D
Bootstoots May 19, 2003, 03:24 PM OOC: I assume that Julius's warrior unit was automatically upgraded to legion at the cost of the Despot, and that Julius will now support the upkeep costs with the food and shield produced by his tile. I also have a question: Do all of the nobles granted land now have a legionary unit, supplied by the Despot?
Cyc May 19, 2003, 03:54 PM Boots - In answer to your last question, yes. I have given all the Nobles the use of 1 military unit to protect the tile (you are also stationed to protect the city of Nar Shadda). I have covered the cost of the unit, the Noble will cover the upkeep (1 food, 1 shield) per turn (or as a whole, per t/c).
In reference to the begining, I assumed at the time of the writing that the Conflict Manager's ruling was correct. Octavian X claimed that you lost control of you last unit, so I gave you another. The tile you are caring for only has the resource to cover the upkeep for one unit. Therefore, if it is ruled that you still have your last one, your new one will be taken back and your tile (my tile) will cover the upkeep of your unit. (BTW Octavian, if it unfolds this way, I will only require 39 Legions, not 40.)
Cyc May 19, 2003, 04:38 PM Emperor Diutius asks the Captain of the Guard about Tasius, "I would definitely like to speak to the Prince. Do you know of his whereabouts?"
The legionary puts one hand on his sword and brings the other to his chest in a fist, "Aye, my Leige. After Prince Tasius bathed he disappeared. No report of him recently, though I will double check now."
Plexus May 19, 2003, 04:50 PM "I am here, Diutius... Surely you do not need to keep tabs on me whereever I go. I was mearly visiting family and I took a trip to Noshuret."
disorganizer May 19, 2003, 05:11 PM Helena enters the room:
"Ah, hello my love" and goes over to Diutius to give him a kiss... then she sees her brother and looks surprised...
"Tasius? Is it you? Oh my god! We thought you got killed by the babarians or whatever! We heard nothing about your whereabouts! Did you already hear about father?"
She then runs over to her brother and hugs him... tars in her eyes...
Cyc May 19, 2003, 05:16 PM Diutius smiles. Tsk, tsk, Helena enough with the tears and the emotions. I'm sure Tasius is aware of all that has gone on here.
Tasius, my friend, it is good to see you again. Tell me, what are your plans and is there anything I can do for you in my short time as Despot?
Cyc May 19, 2003, 05:53 PM Upon my death, Praeditus Lifespanius Maximus will succeed to Despot. He shall remain as Despot until his death. Any new lands that come into our nation will then be his to determine the use of. Also, any balance of resources shall be transferred over to him. To this day, only two parcels of land are owned by people other than the Despot. Those would be the 13 tiles owned by Helena and the three tile owned by Marcus (three hills between Noshuret and Gorina), both of which were given by the great Sage Atrous.
All current Land Grants (see last proclamation) will carry over indefinitely, but may be increased (in responsibility or rank) or decreased, even ended if need be. Servitude would go to Maximus. I ask that Maximus carry on the works of Land Grants to worthy citizens.
All of the troops within my lands shall then come under Maximus' command. New troops and upgrades shall be at his discretion.
More to come.
Cyc May 19, 2003, 06:02 PM Praeditus Lifespanius Maximus beems with pride as he reads the proclamtion. Being only 14 years of age, this is a heavy responsibilty, but Maximus has learned alot in his lifetime and is ready for the challenge.
Civanator May 19, 2003, 08:52 PM Antony: Thank you Despot Diutius.
OOC: I was pronounce Marquis by Plexus before... Oh well. I have land :).
Cyc May 19, 2003, 10:21 PM As we, the nation of Fanatica, look back on our history, one figure stands tall in the not-too-distant past. That man is Sage Atrous. Yes, the figure whose image was cast to create the Bronze staue in front of the Palace here in Gorina. We all knew him well. That statue is a constant reminder of what a true, noble leader the man was.
He son, Tasius (the Bold) is now with us as a citizen of Fanatica, but has no evidence of his stature as the great leader he is. I will therefore rectify that situation by granting ownership of three land tiles SE of Noshuret. These would be the three plains tiles starting with the roaded one SE of the Lake and extending 2 tiles to the NE.
May Tasius live in harmony with the land there, and may his days be fruitful.
Cyc May 19, 2003, 10:24 PM My mistake, Antony. Yes, you will keep your current title plus be granted the land use.
Plexus May 19, 2003, 10:24 PM Tasius: Thank you, Diutius, you show great wisdom through your actions. While not the Despotism that I deserve, it is still something. Thus, I thank you.
Plexus May 19, 2003, 10:30 PM I, Prince Amulius Atrous Tasius, proclaim the land given to me by Despot Diutius: soverign. The new nation of Atrouia shall be formed, South East of Noshuret. I am the despot of Atrouia, and my wife, Alexia, Despotess.

So be it, young Tasius. You shall live and learn. I shall not trample you under foot (for now). Atrouia shall exist inside Fanatica as its own entity. You have borders now. Make sure any troops you raise stay well within them.
Tsk, Tsk. Now I fully understand why they call you Tasius the Bold.

Stuck_as_a_Mac May 20, 2003, 05:41 PM Thomas Anderson approaches the hut of the Despot.
Oh noble Diutius. I am but a poor man, but I am a man with skills. Please, I come with a request. There are now many nations of Fanatican birth that are no longer part of mother Fanatica. Permit me to serve as your ambassador to these nations. I ask for nothing in return, other then perhaps a piece of land adjacent to my home with the DiSaaMuels. I ask not for a title or a promotion, just to serve my despot.
As Thomas is making his plea, Smith DiSaaMuel aproaches him
Smith: Ah, Mr. Anderson. Mother is looking for you. Why are you bothering approaching the great Diutius. He does not have time for commoners like you. Its survival of the fitests. This is our time. Our society. To you, it is soley "Me, me, me, me" Well you know what? Me too! We all have urges to fufil. Now, if you'll excuse me, I have some laps to run.

Ive renamed it to Little Italy
Grandmaster May 20, 2003, 07:49 PM Character: Sparticus Atticus
Sparticus approaches the Despot peacefully and with a look of admiration in his otherwise cold, near-black eyes. His intentions are non-violent, but he carries his 12-inch iron dagger under his cloak where he reach it at a moment's notice.
Sparticus: Oh Great and Glorious Emperor Lifespanius, I approach ye today as one of your common citizens who wishes to better serve his lord and liege. I beseach of you that you grant me a small parcel of land upon which I can build an army to serve you, my King and Almighty. In return I will pledge to you allegiance against the hostile rebel provinces that are appearing in defiance of your devine right to rule. I pledge to use any troops I raise in defense of King and Country against all invaders, foreign and domestic, who might His or Its undoing. Please, sire, I am but a peasant, but one skilled in the arts of war. I am a born leader of men. I beg it, please let me serve you, my lord.
Stuck_as_a_Mac May 20, 2003, 07:52 PM Anderson: My lord, I beg of you. Now is the time for Diplomacy. My adopted sister and I (Fortuna) are willing to serve as intermeidaries between you and all others. My adopted brother, though... He may be a different story. He seems to be a renegade. Who knows?
Cyc May 20, 2003, 08:10 PM @Sparticus Atticus - Had I known of your existance, I would have granted you a land tile and a legion. I respect your fighting ability and welcome your support. But...
All of this is meaningless, as the conflict manager has not granted you any troops. The Despot is the only one who can afford troops at this point in time, so you are not able to take a city. You can claim your own Nation, but it is meaningless also. I could walk in with tropps and take it away.
Please stop this foolishness until we get word from from the appropriate managers.
Grandmaster May 20, 2003, 08:14 PM OOC: Cyc, I will gladly wait for word from the proper Manager. However....
IC:
M'lord, if I cannot yet raise troops to serve you, than let my land parcel exist in name only, and let me serve you with word and deed until the time that I can raise a sword to fight for my Emperor.
CivGeneral May 20, 2003, 08:28 PM Ceaser Jade: Emperor Diutius Lifespanius, I have heard about the rebelion. I would like to have the Jade Commandos take down Little Italy. I would like a small parcel of land in exchange for my Family's Loyalty to you. I will rase an Army to take down Little Italy and to serve the King and Country. Please let me prove my Family's Loyalty.
Cyc May 20, 2003, 11:30 PM All Land Grants have been revoked as of this moment. All Nobility promotions given by me are revoked as of this moment. Any promotions received from other Despots may stay, but you still lose your Land Grant. Land Tiles given to Helena and Tasius will remain theirs. These are to be the only exceptions.
Signed,
The Despot

Know that Atrouia supports the motherland in this time of turmoil. Please do not compare Atrouia with the rogue states of Nar Shaddaland or Little Italy.

From: Ceaser Jade
I would lke to reasure you that the Jade Commandos would like to remain loyal to your servace. I would like to be the Commander of my own troops that would serve with the Jade Commandos and the Despot. Please, Diutius, could you let me and the Jade Commandos command a unit of 15 Military units. In return I will pledge to you allegiance against the hostile rebel provinces that are appearing in defiance of your devine right to rule. I if land grants have been revoked, I would like to request the Despot to create 10 Units of Legonares placed under the Jade Commando's command.
Commander of the Jade Commandos,
Ceaser Jade

Well, Least I'm still a Contessa....
Bye single tile of land which I had no control over the production of...
disorganizer May 21, 2003, 01:49 PM Dearest Diutius
[OOC: i still have to check if im still alive, if not im talking as bellona here :-)]
the lands i own and controll have troops as royal guard. they will protect the capitol, the family and all things we own.
at this moment of time, i am only giving you moral support and will stay in the background of the process. Of course you will have my good words with you on your way to crush the rebels and my pledge to stand behind you. I will keep your back clean to allow you a grand fight, as i know you have enough troops and abilities.
Cyc May 21, 2003, 06:02 PM Unhappy with the Despot's last proclomation, as it stated that he no longer owned the three hill tiles between Noshuret and Gorina, Marcus Lifespanius rebels and claims that he is Despot. He not only claims the three hills he was given by Sage Atrous, but he claims the three tiles to the Northeast of them (the lake and 2 tiles to the NW). His Nation shall be Marconia, and he shall declare himself Despot over these lands and raise troops. The six tiles have a resource value of 5s/7f/4g.
Cyc May 21, 2003, 06:23 PM Unhappy that she is not the Despot, Mellita Roberts beaks away from the tyranical rule of her brother and claims all the lands of Penquinadua, except of course for the one tile owned by Helena. She is calling this nation mellita, (What else?) and will be the Despot. Total resource output for her new nation is 9s/14f/3g.
Civanator May 21, 2003, 09:08 PM OOC: :lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol: Everyone is making new nations aren't they?
Bootstoots May 21, 2003, 10:08 PM OOC: Is the only tile under the Despot's control the city of Gorina?
Cyc May 21, 2003, 10:23 PM Be aware Civanator that you have claimed 3 tiles that I have already claimed for Marcus. You will not be allowed to use the resources for those tiles.
Cyc May 22, 2003, 05:24 AM Diutius stands at the balcony of the Gorina Palace. A tear in his eye. He sees before him the Family he has gathered and the troops he has raised. He raises his eyes to the heavens and murmurs that the Gods have gone insane. They have ignored his pleas for guidance and turned the whole world upside down.
He has gathered his family and convinced them to travel with him to distant lands, where maybe there are different Gods. His benevolent rule over Fanatica seems to have been in vain. It has turned into a pointless exercise in futility. Helena and her brother will stay behind to take matters into their own hands, but for now, Diutius will take the ones he controls and the 15 troops he has raised and move on to new lands.
He has packed up all his belongings onto large wagons and attached horses to them. He has had his troops round up enough Horses to carry all the troops and the Royal family off into the sunset. (Yes, as the leader of this nation, I was smart enough to figure out how to tame horses and ride them. I don't give a *BLEEP* about the rules.)
As the sun starts to rise again over the Gorina Hills, the Lifespanius family rides off into a brand new day, never to be heard from again.
disorganizer May 22, 2003, 05:59 AM HELENA:
Dear Husband,
i will stay here with bellona and our new children (OOC: which seem to be delivered though i dont have notice of them yet) to continue to hold the glory of our lands in our hand.
as folowup to the old despot in the inheritage line, i herewith announce that i give the rights of the despot to my daughter bellona together with all ownings and troops. even those of the emperor.
bellona will propably be married to a member of the datrous family to keep the rule in the family.
nevertheless, we decline all acceptance of the lands which were claimed outside the rules (so which were not conquered by existing troops according to the landrules or conflict ruleset).

Bootstoots May 22, 2003, 06:30 AM OOC: Dis, there ie no rule prohibiting people from claiming land they don't own.
Sir John May 22, 2003, 06:54 AM @Booty: Get on the chat if you can.
disorganizer May 22, 2003, 10:42 AM boot: and there is no rule claiming it back is prohibited:
ANNOUNCEMENT:
the fanatican populace is revolting against their illegal despots in the defected lands. from this very moment on, couter-revolutionary troops of civil peasants armed with forks and shovels gather at the housing of the illegal despots and claim their fanatican identity back. all tiles not occupied by troops at this moment will revert back. all tiles for which no ownership was posted (e.g. civanators tiles) automatically revert back to me, the despotess.
the illegal despots are driven out of the nation, and as such will from now on be known as "banned" and "non-individuals". they will be tracked and hunted down by specialized commandoes. they will be caught upon sight and put into the dungeon to be executed the day after their capture. this will also be true for all their relatives and decessors as well as all people who supported them.
despotess bellona lifespania
OOC:
this will at the moment(!) only be done for proclaimed ownership tiles and illegaly proclaimed nations.
any person having ownership of tiles being granted by this or any former despot are NOT illegal. they are legal. they will be conquered back or being left alone as the despot wishes.
so afaik, only diutius and bootstoots character have legally founded nations, but i dont know which tiles were legally transferred or not. i would like to stop all activity until somebody can draw a clear map of which tiles belong to whom now. otherwise i will have to fight down all nations instead of letting them live!
