It is the Chekhover variation of the Sicilian Defence, so called because it was first played in a serious tournament by International Master Vitaly Chekhover (1908-1965) in a game against Lisitsin in Leningrad in 1938. It is characterised by 4. Qxd4 although, unlike your game, it is usually followed (after 4...Nc6) by 5. Bb5.

well....Shadowdale is racking me at this point but its tight.I think he could have held the pawn if he captured Qxb7 but I would get a ton of compensation for the pawn so he wisely declined.a4 is good because it prepares c4 which I beleive is destined to be occupied by a white knight.Makes b5 less attractive although that was not in my thinking so far.
I beleive I should have played more forcefully after Qc4.Gotta be a reason why its not played.Its not a terribly aggressive play but seems to work in an odd way.

I don't know how I am assumed to be good.I beat Stellar and his over aggressiveness.Had a tough draw against Martin.A decent game against anand then a blunder by Algernon.Not exactly dominating.

This is an odd game! You've got clandestine Ruy Lopez style maneouvring in a Sicilian, and the opening is only just finishing.

I don't know the "official" answer to this one. I have to say I was rather surprised by your rather passive 6... Bd7. I think I would have smacked the white queen around some more. This is the kind of line that is just <u>begging</u> for Be6 + fianchetto of the other bishop at g7 + a full scale traditional Dragon style attack down the half-open c-file.

Just my two cents! Now back to my coffin...

Yes white is busted here.The rook will go for the advanced pawn so I would be a full piece and pawn up.

Things started to turn with move 10.Then the 2nd(move23) exchange left me with 2 Bs and lots of room.I was very surprised at that.It was still drawish until Rd2.That was a bit of a grunter.Once I play d5,there is no way for black to lose.

A cautious game by both.I think Chekover is bad but its not as bad as it looks.Just seems too passive for white.Seems to aim at longterm positional play or a violent attempt to refute.I think black is wise too ignore the queen to a certain extent

yes Stormerne,I was looking at a dragon set-up.I decided to be conservative in this format, was wisest.It was very tempting though...it looked like a very dynamic set-up.But maybe for white!...I kinda muddled thru the opening.Not the "best" line I'm sure.

Now for some rating calculations.I'm not real happy with my system.I'm going game by game,adjusting after every outcome.It would be easy if players played 1 at a time but....I should use ratings at game start,but then its gets a litle harder.I don't have time or ability to run a full blown chess league http://forums.civfanatics.com/ubb/frown.gif
