In the turnchat our civilization was revealed... Rome! Now we need to decide what to name our nation. In the turnchat the name "Fanaticum" was proposed, which I fully support. If you have any other suggestions, simply post them here, or express you support for "Fanaticum."

No, Fanaticum should be element 666. No, wait, that's evilium!

And we're not an 100% unstable element. Grrrr.

Got an idea. Basileus [name of the president]. This way, the president can call himself the "lord of everything" and still look authentically roman, bisantine or early russian.

As for the people's name, what about the AIcides. Or the Shaitaneans. Or maybe the proposition of "fanalatins" (by amirsan) is better? I would have realy liked better to be the greeks, as i'm better in hellenistic nomenclature.

My apologies for the implied vulgarity, but let's add an "I" to Fanaticum so we don't become an unwitting punchline for CivButtheads everywhere.

Ya, why is there such opposition to a name like one we used before? obviously we liked it the first time. I still think it is the best choice (Fanatica, it sounds like a real name to me) but since it seems there are many objections to a 'used' name it looks like it won't succeed.

I can deal with Fanaticus, although it sounds too much like someone's name: Augustus, Brutus, Spartacus, Plexus...... :D

I was playing around with the Latin-Enlish dictionary and came up with this this one:

Infragilis: meaning unbreakable, strong

Let us choose a name whose meaning we must forever strive to uphold. Vivo Infragilis!

Watergate
May 04, 2003, 06:45 AM
Again: 'Romantica' (Because 'romance' is derived from 'roman' - and because SPQR looks so much better thann SPQF -
- and because E. A. Poe is a romantic and the author of the tales of mystery and imagination - and mystery and imagination are the things we're dealing with here.)

But of course: Fanatica (with a 'c') would work pretty good (much better than 'Fanaticus' or 'Fanaticum' or something similar.)

It is perfectly within our rights not to like a name. I think that is a better reason for not liking a name than "I just don't", or "We used that before".

Feel free to put it in the poll, if it is elected thats fine with me. I just don't like it. Don't get so upset just because some people don't like the name you chose, you'll have a tough time in life if you do.

I'd do it as mulit-choice and have people select all names that they can live with. The top selections would then go into a single elimination poll.

I was planning on doing that. I'll make the thread in a bit.

Peri

Since the poll is now up I would like to take this opportunity to argue why we should call our nation Fanatica in Demogame III.

1).
In DG I we were know as Phoenatica and in DG II we were known as Fanatika so there is some logic in calling ourselves Fanatica this time. Some people say 'not again' but since we are fanatics our homeland really should be Fanatica.

2).
The civ we play has had a bearing on the spelling of our name but we have always been Fanatica in pronunciation. We are now Romans and this too should influence our choice of name. In Latin countries were feminine and ended in an 'a' Africa, Brittania, Caledonia, Germania for instance. Fanatica fits that perfectly. Fanatica also sounds so much better than other choices too.

In conclusion when you vote for your nation, VOTE FANATICA and vote for a glorious future

Cyc

Sad is right, Immortal. I felt the same way when someone denounced a flag for the nation because it had a Roman numeral 3 on it. How's that for perverse?

And Panzer, don't worry about Nolodan. I can tell by the way he interjects brilliantly that he is indeed rightous, he is more mature than most who post here. But he will never be credited for his brilliance. That's life.

the beautiful yellow and red one? thats a shame :(

It might not matter now, but I think that was a wonderful flag, a great show of talent. :goodjob:

panzer: if that was directed at me (and I have a distinct feeling it was) I must say I have never said any nation name wasn't good because of any of the reasons you mentioned. My reasoning for saying what i did earlier was that in the chat room during the creation, when i proposed the name, most, if not all (im sure a few people had different ideas) liked the name. When I opened this thread and saw that the same name was being denounced simply because the word "cum" has pornographic and sexually explicit meaning tied to it, for some strange reason.

So thats all, i dont think you should make it a point to knock my maturity though, some have expressed a lot less then I have in this thread.
