View Full Version : what's your shortest game ever
RussiaWarMachin May 02, 2003, 10:24 PM I think my shortest game ever was the time I anihalated the Indians in 35 turns. But it was more a thing of luck than anything else. It was on a Tiny Pangea world with only 1 AI player, I was the Russians of course.
First I started on an ideal location, I had 3 weat grasslands a river and ivory all in the square adacent to my starting location. By the time I was ready to build a Settler, I noticed (with my scout) the the Indians were only 10 or so turns away from me. I managed to blocade them in by building cities on there border. On about the 10th turn or so I had some military units and moved in on there 2 only cities. The progress was slow going but with my superiority in cities I was able to vanquish them by the time I had my first technology advance.
Erik Mesoy May 03, 2003, 02:26 AM Tiny Pangea, 80% water, Aztecs, Emperor. I scored 19.8k points for victory in 1950 BC.
thebignastyone May 06, 2003, 08:29 AM i Played for a half hour once and was BEATEN on diety before i even got into the 2nd age. Sad but true.
ChrTh May 06, 2003, 10:15 AM Can we include the all mountain 1-turn win exploit? :band:
kittenOFchaos May 06, 2003, 01:45 PM Nope.
I can include a 4 turn victory 1 vs 1 against another human player who can remain nameless hehe.
Bouchehog May 08, 2003, 02:51 PM I've had a couple of games at higher levels where I've gone for a warrior gambit and lost them. The loss of production and expansion is crippling and if they chose to go to war before you recover you're so fecked! I've lost within thirty turns before that way. :(
Bacon King May 08, 2003, 10:11 PM I won a Monarch game (by conquest) on the 20 by 20 earth map in about 20 turns.
I know, i'm so good:p :D
NKorea_Nuke May 10, 2003, 09:10 PM I think I won in about 2900 BC on warlord as Aztecs once with Jaguar Warrior rush.

JAILEM May 28, 2003, 02:04 PM Started game on and surrounded by Jungle. Moved worker north, still in jungle. Moved settler SE, exposed Barbarian directly east. Barbarian attacked, I'm dead.
Suffered Military defeat in 4000BC.
Elapsed time, 30 sec!
amirsan May 31, 2003, 02:35 PM What about the longest???
Inter4 Jun 01, 2003, 08:49 PM @amirsan: 24 hours, 35 minutes Pangea/Regent/Huge/Ottomans/Diplomatic Win
Beanzy Jun 09, 2003, 12:42 AM I once arbitrarily desided that I didn't like the game and disbanded my settler. Hehe, I lost pretty badly.

OK, that's pretty funny. Not a heck of a lot you could have done about it either. I've never had my original settler get killed. It shoulda let you keep playing. Maybe your worker would pop a settler from a goody hut:).
My shortest game (that I played to near conclusion) was probably 2000BC. Great start location, started pumping out settlers and had 4 cities up in short order. England was blocking me in though and I had little more room to expand. England suddenly demanded something from me, and I refused. They came at me with a warrior and spearman against my spearman/warrior defender in my capital. Two attacks later, my capital was gone
Still, I figured there was hope. I attacked with swords and warriors, he with warriors and spears. After about 10 attacks, he had captured 3 of my 4 cities, and I had lost 50% of my counterattacks. It was hopeless at that point, since every city except my capital was burned the ground and I had only one city remaining with one defender, and England wasn't speaking. I quit.
spanna88 Jun 11, 2003, 02:04 AM Monarch, Standard, 8 AI Civs, Space Race Victory at 1100AD.
:p Could Have won earlier but I wanted to get the Ottomans and The Arabians of MY Continent.
That said I have suffered some truly embarassing defeats:cry:
Junzi Nicuzn Jul 03, 2003, 10:42 AM It was my first monarch game.
Huge Pangea Map, 8 Other Civies
I was Rome, founded my city, built an archer and started exploring. After a few turns I found out the Aztec capital was close to mine, so I started producing archers for a rush.
I sent 4 archers to attack their capital. Unfortunately they had Jaguar Warriors and I made the mistake of attacking over a river.
So my archers fail, and I'm at war with the Aztecs. They send 5 Jaguar Warriors down to my capital (which was my only city because of the rush). Rome was on a plains square next to a lake but no river (in other words, my archers got no defense bonus)
My archers (3 of them) amazingly held of and killed 4 Jaguar Warriors (I lost 2 archers and the third was in the red), but the fifth Jaguar kills the archer and captured my capital.
I lost before I had even made one technology advance (was working on bronze working)
-My pathetic first attempt at monarchy game-

Azale Jul 04, 2003, 08:57 PM I had a 56 hour game as rome (my very first real game) on a huge pangea map.
Won a culture victory (cheiftan)
Bamspeedy Jul 08, 2003, 09:57 PM Longest game-
I had a GOTM take 85 hours. I know other games have taken me longer, especially on the huge maps when they were bigger than they are now, but that was before PTW (to know exactly how many hours I spent). I'm guessing my HoF game took 200 hours or more.
Shortest game-
Don't remember the dates or time, but was sneak attacked by the Germans on a tiny map and by the English on a huge map (both deity level), and when I had only my capital.
Fanatix Jul 10, 2003, 07:14 AM My shortest game was the Zulu against the romans, tiny, raging barbarians, archipelago, 80%, cool, normal, 5 billion, chieftain.
The Romans were 4 turns away from my capital and unprotected, so I traded for bronze-working, and sent one impi into Rome.
The game was over in 3350 B.C. :king:

In my first PTW game I had 73 hours, 28 minutes, 44 seconds/Continents/Regent/Carthage/Space Race Victory (I still could have killed everyone, but it was when they were gettin ICBM's.
vbraun Jul 15, 2003, 01:42 PM My little brother won an elimination game in a little over 15 min in regent...
His High Score is still at the top to this very day...
I tried many time to mimic him but I can not beat it in under 15. :wallbash:

CaptainCivFreak Oct 26, 2003, 02:08 PM 10 Minutes. America (me) vs. France; I killed Paris with a warrior. Regent. Tiny world.
Eastern Knight Nov 02, 2003, 05:26 AM shortest: mentioned in the "first game" thread, a few minutes, score: 28.
longest: 10 hours, still not finished, but i've got tired of it, havn't played it ever since october 16th.
OneFastWarrior Nov 07, 2003, 12:33 PM I just recemtly won a tiny map on Chieftan vs. 3 civs and won in 2500BC conquest score about 4400 (IIRC)
Just was seeing how fast I could win.
Kuningas Nov 07, 2003, 12:57 PM Longest:
over 120 hours. I played on modded huge world map with 31 civs. I used to read a book while interturns.
Shortest:
tiny map vs 3 civs. Won by Jaguar rush 3000bc.
NewWaver Nov 10, 2003, 07:12 AM I think my shortest game was when I was playing on one of Marla Singer's Earth maps, which was "possibly" only supported by CivIII and not PTW. I wanted to play a regicide game...can you guess what happened? No? Here goes:
It wasn't a PTW-supported map, therefore regicide didn't work, meaning I started off with no king units. So what happened after I built my first city? It got destroyed because I had no living king!
Talk about a case of bad luck. :crazyeye:
Smellincoffee Nov 10, 2003, 02:14 PM Started a tiny pangea with one opposing civ. I played as Russia. The Indians were right next to me. I got four warriors, walked over, and took the city. I edited it out of the HOF because I didn't consider it a real win.
CivEmperor Nov 22, 2003, 03:25 PM shortest game tiny pangea around 7 min it was my first diety game and i was the romans and the indians destroyed me with 20 wariors:confused:
Xi 12 Nov 23, 2003, 10:13 AM My first game was about 20 minutes. I was fighting a war with the Zulu (I was America). I saw the retire button, and wanting to see what it did...
You can guess what happened next.
china444 Nov 23, 2003, 01:18 PM You can still play the game after you retire, just save it before you do retire ;)
jodox Jan 04, 2004, 10:34 AM During my first game when i declared war on everyone i met........
Lost in like 15 minutes

My shortes game was in Regicide. I tend to use the King as an Explorer to enlarge my knowledge of the world untill first Warrior is out to continu. Encountered an horde of evil Barbarians ::wallbash:
How could I knew? :P Didn't explore with the King upon restart :P
Nick014 Jan 05, 2004, 08:51 PM It wasn't me, but in one game of C3C the AI iroquois were destroyed on the fifth turn. It wasn't until later that I saw a ruin lying right next to a volcano that I figured out what had happened :)
EBFan2000 Jan 18, 2004, 06:07 PM Well, I know how to beat the Napoleonic Europe Conquest in two turns. Does that count?
Bud2998 Jan 19, 2004, 12:47 AM One time I was playing an elimination game (I didn't know I had that feature turned on) and I was expanding. Now when I expand, I usually do not escort my settlers (unless there's lots of barbarians around or it's near another civ's borders). Then I saw the Germans wandering around with their warrior. I figured it was just the AI doing some exploring, so I shrugged. Then they suddenly declared war with me (even though I had about 20 swordsmen ready to attack the Koreans, easily able to switch and go for them) and took that city. I suppose the elimination had one city = your entire civ collapses. Sort of made me mad. The game lasted for no more than 6 minutes.
Doc Tsiolkovski Jan 20, 2004, 04:14 AM Longest game - DyP on huge World Map, retired after 135 hours in 1904AD, still 30 turns away from a (sure) 100k culture victory, the fastest possible victory in this game - SS was far away, Diplo  ....
Shortest victorious game (not counting the Conquests) - about 17h, Arabs, Monarch, Standard Pangea. Never ever played Small or Tiny or Aztecs :p
How the heck are you all able to win standard+ games in less then 10 hours at all?
Smellincoffee Jan 20, 2004, 10:28 AM Edit: Silly me, already posted....
Affirmative Jan 21, 2004, 07:08 PM 4 turns. 1v1. I was Babylon, AI was Persia. On settling I popped a warrior. I sent the warrior east to scout and stumble upon an ungarrisoned persian capital. Good stuff indeed. Second deity win ever. :p Not really a win I suppose.
redux Jan 26, 2004, 11:52 PM ok, what's the quickest victory on a *huge* map with 16 players?
DBear Jan 27, 2004, 05:26 PM My shortest game was with vanilla CIV3. I was playing as the Americans and I was stuck on a peninsula behind a mountain range. I discover early I have no iron. I found out that India, across a bay, had some, so I tried to take it. EVERY other civ in the game declared war on me and soon it became lose a couple cities, give up a couple more in peace talks, then get attacked again. Horrible game.
Dr. Yoshi Feb 07, 2004, 07:55 AM My shortest game was 58 seconds.
I started in the middle of a Jungle, not a very ideal building spot so I move my settler east and two squares away lies a barbarian.
I attempted to flee but my finger slipped and I moved towards the barbarian instead of away from it.
Bluemofia Feb 13, 2004, 08:33 PM This is my longest game. it is on the TETkurman map.
Chieftess Feb 19, 2004, 01:38 PM Can you upload the save for that one! :D
Anyway, my shortest was starting next to a volcano in C3C. Volcano erupted on my only city. Game "won".
Bluemofia Feb 19, 2004, 03:23 PM Can't, too huge.
It is 1,197,473 bytes. the limit is 1,024,000 bytes.
If i use a zip file, it is 1,106,200 bytes.

Did you use any extra units in this scenario? I'm getting a "ERROR READING FILE" message (anim_name_workers). And yes, I have the TETurkhan mod from PTW. Just to be sure, I completely reinstalled the TETurkhan mod (good thing I have cable now! :D 100 megs!), and it does seem units were added. So, I'm tediously adding temporary units while my computer runs slower and slower...
edit: Finally got it to work with a few temp units. Where's that last Songhai stronghold??? :)
Bluemofia Feb 20, 2004, 03:16 PM in teh middle of the atlantic, near southern africa, near the northern rainforest area. or where all of my tactical nukes are.
Gogf Feb 22, 2004, 10:28 AM So you were the Chinese?
 Wow is that a long game!
Bluemofia Feb 22, 2004, 10:46 AM yep.
the only thing i messed with on TET's map was the cost to the aircraft carrier. i thought it was too expensive. still, i got about 28 leaders or something.
Gogf Feb 22, 2004, 10:49 AM What difficulty was this?
Bluemofia Feb 22, 2004, 10:51 AM cheftin. the reason was i started this game near when i first got PTW.
Gogf Feb 22, 2004, 01:28 PM And you've been playing it ever since I asumme :crazyeye:.
Bluemofia Feb 22, 2004, 07:48 PM yep :)
jm chen Feb 24, 2004, 11:43 AM I've won in half an hour (tiny Pangaea epic) and lost in 42 seconds (Sengoku Conquest... Daimyo encountered one too many Ainu barbarians), both on Regent.

I think Sengoku is the source of MANY short games for agressive players. I once attacked the first barb I saw with my Daimyo. It lost. (turn 2)
