Below is a list of options where to found our city. We can found several places around the lake, or in our current spot.

Since we're on plains, we have to irragate immediately. The wines acts as sort of a psuedo-bonus grassland tile, which we could mine.

I don't know if we can afford to lose a turn at the beginning. But if it is to be done, then I would go for Cyan site.

I suggest the hill where the worker is sitting as a city site. It will allow the city to function better as a settler factory from the beginning, because of the added food from having two wine tiles in the radius.

I agree

I was also thinking about the hill a bit too. It doesn't look like terrain that we can get the most out of until indutrialization (rails). We'll only be able to use 2 hills at the most - even with the plains irragated.

Cyan. Because of the seven hills, which is just the right number.

And the wines, of course. We need something to offer to the Gods.

I agree on the hill. And Watergate, instead of posting twice, try editing the first one to contain more info. It's okay, but just so you know.

If we are to waste a turn by moving the Settler, then the hill would be the best choice for a city location. This would free up the plains tile it now stands on for irrigation, get us both wines and the village.

Hehe, I remember when curufinwe used to post twice... :)

The hill is a good idea. I was remembering something CT said about Legionaries. We Fortify one on a 6+ city with walls, you need some infantry to dislodge it.

Ok, so it looks like the options so far are:

Current spot
Cyan Start
Red Start
The Hill where the worker is. (purple)

Remember - the plains-wines can't be irragated until after despotism.

Let's go for a hill start. We would have wines, a lake start, and it would add a defensive bonus comparable to having walls around our capital. BTW, I was thinking, wouldn't it be embarrassing if our capital was captured undefended by a foreign warrior in 3500 BC? We would have to explain to TF that we had lost our game already and that we needed Demogame IV forums!

Our current location is fine. We have fresh water and wines. Remember that we won't get over 12 tiles used until well into the industrial age. A turn's difference is important right now and there's no great benefit to moving from where we are.

I tend to agree. Wine bonus not available under despo - 3rd food lost. Moving to the hill does not loose desert tiles, either.

Even our current location would have the desert, but we won't be able to use it until after hospitals. Remember DG1? That had a semi-harsh start.

i would go for the hill. I think that it will give us the best bonus with the defense and the lake.
