View Full Version : Special 2 Figure units: Spanish Tercio & Escorted Bomber
Kryten May 05, 2003, 06:11 PM Some people dislike multi-figure units. Nontheless, there are some units that just can't be made without having two figures in them.
One of these is Pike & Shot formations as used in the 16th & 17th centuries....
(The shadows and smoke can't been seen in this preview, but they can in the game)

(Please note that I have not included any sound waves with this unit.
I suggest copying the existing Musketman ones into this folder, or creating your own links in the attached ini.file)
Another two figure unit is the American B-17 "Escorted Bomber" of WW2....

(The Mustang escort fighter was created by hot rod, and has been slightly altered and adapted)
Suggested Stats For The Escorted Bomber
------------------------------------------
The same as a normal Civ3 bomber, but with a defence slightly larger than the attack factor of a Civ3 Fighter.
This reflects the problems enemy fighters had: not only must they dogfight the escorts, but the bomber's own machine guns as well.
Additionaly, I suggest that this unit does not replace the standard bomber, but is instead a later upgrade.
There is also a 4 figure version (with two bombers & two fighters) in the Multi-Figure Units Forum.
(I wasn't sure if these two really count as 'new units'.
But the multi-figure version of the Tercio, when I finish it, will have 8 figures....4 pikemen & 4 musketmen....and the MF version of the Escorted Bomber has 4 aircraft.
So two figure units are somewhere in between) :crazyeye:

Later Edit:

Wyrmshadow has requested that I also post the silver B17 looking bomber all on it's own, without the escort.
Rather than start a new thread, I have posted it here, along with some civilopeadia pictures. :)

Kal-el May 05, 2003, 06:19 PM Nice Job, Kryten.
Klyde182 May 05, 2003, 06:59 PM Kryten Really nice job:goodjob:
However I have a question about the Tercio Munit, will it work with/in an Army unit?
Klyde182 May 05, 2003, 07:06 PM P.S.... Request, do you think you could do a Hurrican or Moskilto night fighter / Lancastor Munit for the English. Then maybe an Me-109/He-111 or Me-110 Munit for the Germans....please.[dance]
Thanks Klyde

No problem whatsoever. :D
What happens is this:-
A Civ3 Army shows an ordinary unit in the centre of the tile (be it single-figure, two-figure or multi-figure), BUT IN ADDITION, it also adds a 'standard bearer' or 'flag carrier' in the EASTERN edge of the tile.....and always on the eastern edge, no matter which way the unit/army is facing. :)
(BTW, I don't realy class two-figure units as 'multi-figure'....not when their true MF counterpart has 8 figures! )
Later edit:-
----------
Oops, you posted just as I did!
More MF German aircraft units.....are you trying to get me into trouble?
I would LOVE to convert EVERY player created unit into an MF version.....but I only have two typing fingers, and some people have been waiting for six months for some of those "Alex the Great " units....not to mention the actual scenario itself!
I was hoping that more people would get into multi-figure creation (it is very, very easy with Steph's SBB utility).
Each unit request I agree to delays my own ancient new unit projects even further...... :crazyeye:
(If no-one takes up the challange, then I'll try.....but don't tell anyone!) ;)
Klyde182 May 05, 2003, 08:20 PM Well If you were to send me a step by step directions I'd love to learn how...:jump:
kemal69 May 05, 2003, 08:21 PM Very nice work, I don't like the idea of multi units for the sake of just cramming units together in formations, but I love the idea of multi units with purpose. I'm certain to make use of these great additions ;) Thanks Kryten
aaglo May 06, 2003, 01:52 AM These look nice.
About the tercio munit: what if the pikeman died first, and as he turns around in his dying agony, his halberd would impale the musketman?
:goodjob:
kemal69 May 06, 2003, 06:32 AM I guess thats why they call it friendly fire? or rather friendly pike? :)
Ville May 06, 2003, 08:13 AM Nice unit:goodjob:
joespaniel May 06, 2003, 04:47 PM Brilliant. :yeah:
xghost May 06, 2003, 05:09 PM I can't seem to see anything? Am I just blind, is my computer buggy, did Kryten (god forbid) mess up somehow, or is it something completely different?
Kal-el May 06, 2003, 07:00 PM I think its you, xghost. unless we are all "seeing" the emperor's new clothes.
xghost May 06, 2003, 07:19 PM Ahem: 'I can see clearly now, the rain is gone....I can see all things on Civ Fanatics now...Ooooo...I can see clearly now the rain is gone....it's going to a bright (bright) bright (bright) sunshiney day!'
Whatever the problem was, it's fixed! And now that I can see, I must compliment Kryten on his latest work of genius. Good work Kryten, keep 'em coming!:goodjob: :goodjob: The escorted Bomber is an especially good idea. BTW, has anybody made a multi-figure plane squadron yet?
Kryten May 06, 2003, 09:06 PM Thanks for all the compliments xghost and everybody else, but the truth is....
....I am NOT a unit creator.
I have NEVER 'created' a new unit in my life, and I doubt that I ever will.
I am just a 'cut-'n-paster'....a poacher....a parasite....someone who takes an existing unit and just changes the colour, or adds a different shield, or alters a helmet....nothing more.
The TRUE geniuses are the people who use 3D software to create something brand new, from scratch, entirely from their own imagination (something I can never do).
It is they who are the real creators. :goodjob:
Nonetheless, it is amazing how even simple changes can result in new animations, and there is almost an infinite number of simple changes still to be made.
So come on all you potential 'cut-'n-pasters'....we have LOTS of work still to do!

(BTW, I too am an old 25mm minature wargames player & model maker....back in the old days, when men were men and women were grateful....)
Klyde182 May 06, 2003, 10:35 PM Love to be the Hoard and I've got a project in mind to start with and would be will to give me a hand with doing it? :)
Costa e Silva May 07, 2003, 03:42 PM Amazing units Kryten.
What do you think about make some versions with a diferent symbol in the wings? For who wanna use this like a not specific civ unit...
Nazist - Comunist - Arab...
Kryten Jun 07, 2003, 08:54 AM Wyrmshadow has requested that I post the silver B17 looking bomber on it's own, without any escort.
So I have attacked the zip file to the first post in this thread.
To Costa e Silva,
I don't think I will make another version with different symbols, partly because I am far too busy at the moment, and secondly because it's already hard to tell if the symbols are 'stars' or 'crosses', as you can see..... :)

Hi Kryten,
Belated 'Many Thanks!' for the Tercio -- it's the ONLY munit I use ...
... Which reminds me of a certain dialogue in the munits forum a few months ago  -- Why don't you post these fine figures there?
Best,
Oz

Because of what I said in the first post....

But the multi-figure version of the Tercio, when I finish it, will have 8 figures....4 pikemen & 4 musketmen....and the MF version of the Escorted Bomber has 4 aircraft.
So two figure units are somewhere in between....not quite 'multi-figure' and not quite 'single-figure'.
I still plan to make half a dozen pike & bow/musket MF combinations....
....but at the moment "Alex the Great" is taking up all my time.
(I need to be cloned..... )

-O. Chieftess sent zulu on a vacation for a week. He might be back with a vengeance. :)
Steph Jun 08, 2003, 12:30 PM Hello Kryten,
You could perhaps also make a new version using the Spanish musketeer and the generic pikemen from Cossacks, they would ahve a more Spanish look for Tercios
Kryten Jun 08, 2003, 01:10 PM Good idea Steph. :)
I do plan on doing so....but only after "Alex the Great" is out of the way first.
Steph Jun 08, 2003, 02:41 PM So we can wait the new tercio for early july... 2006 ;) ?
snsfro Jun 14, 2003, 12:39 PM can you make escorted modern bomber (B-2, B1-B, B-52, etc.)
Kryten Jun 15, 2003, 05:51 PM Eventually, snsfro, eventually....
