As I have understood, this unit has been awaited for a long time. It's quite large, but so it is in the real life too :)

Download (http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads4/B29.zip)

All files except bomberbomb.flc and bomberbomb.wav are edited.

Edit: here's a correct Ini-file (the one in the zip was incorrect)

You're wellcome ;)

Oops, I notice atleast one mistake in the cocpit. there are too many window holes :blush:

Starting from the lowest row on the sides, there should be 4, 3 and 2 windows. Now there's 4, 3 and 3 windows. I hope this is okay with you (since this is a mod of the original B29 ;) )

aaglo, what programs are you using to make these units and the animations for them?

aaglo
May 08, 2003, 06:23 AM
I use:

-Pov-Ray (www.povray.org) to make all the frames and models.
-FLICster (download from the utilites-forum) to make flc's.
-StoryBoardBuilder (SBB, download from the utilities-forum) to make the pcx-storyboards (required to make the animations with FLICster).
-Gimp, PaintBrush & some other various gfx-programs for some miscellaneous minor jobs.

Hey aaglo could you PM me a step by step instruction on how you use/build units with these progs? That is the process that you use, from beginning to final.

aaglo
May 08, 2003, 07:30 AM
Hmmm... that would be some 25 000 step instructions...
I think I won't.

Besides, the pov-ray has a great tutorial in the help-section

Just go through all of them, and you'll know all about the basics. ;)

AWESOME!!! Can you consider doing a German Ar 234 jet bomber which would be for the same era and maybe a variant for a ww2 german heavy bomber?

There was a thing on the History Channel about the B-29's Last Mission in World War II when the bombed an Oil Refinery in Japan in the closing hours of World War II just hours before the Japanese surrendered.
Hmm, I have SM's Tri-Bomber, and the B-52. Thanks aaglo, this unit would fit nicely to fill in the Heavy Bomber Line in between a WWI and a Modern Heavy Bomber :).

That's what I was afraid too... :undecide:

But hopefully this is okay, since none of the unit's in the game are 'in scale' ;)

As you said, none of the units are in scale. On closer exam, this is just about the same size as my B-52, the proportions are different so it looks 'thicker.'

However, I think you may have placed it too high. The Fireaxis air units are all positioned so the top point of the tile is inside the body of the plane. I tried to do this with the B-52. Bebro's planes are a little lower, same for my F-4. Your B-29 is above the tile, complete outside its own tile (except the props).

IMHO you should lower it to line up with the top apex of the tile.

I would also shrink it maybe 10%, but that might be because it would leave my B-52 the largest air unit. :D

And probably matters even less with air units as they aren't generally in those face to face situations with other units.

Not like you will have a B-52 and a B-29 dueling it out on the high planes. ;)

Keep the B29 the size it is, the bigger the better!

It illustrates the zenith of prop-driven bombers!
I can live with the B-52 being a similar size.

Let's face it, infantry units are not as big as cities either.
But they are in CIV3!

Could someone do a Bear Bomber?

Just a suggestion ... if you think it is too big, call it a B-36 :cool:

Yep, it's quite high above the ground, but so it is in real life... ;)

well, everybody can edit this unit according to their wishes.

I realy like it, Its definately going in my scenario as the "super heavy bomber". I especialy like how the military emblems make it look quite generic, so It can be used for many nations.

Would you consider making the tupolev as stated previously?

aaglo
May 14, 2003, 02:29 AM
tupolev? What tupolev?

A superbomber of the russians?

aaglo
May 16, 2003, 04:47 AM

Excellent job! A couple of questions...
1) Suggested stats?
2) I enjoy the bomber and the construction of the warrior in the image preview...but the spearman in the corner looks different. Like an Immortal with a shield and a spear. Is it different, or am I losing my mind?

aaglo
May 19, 2003, 01:25 AM
1# Stats:
Range = 14
Attack = 2
Defence = 4
Bombard = 10
Rateoffire = 3

? ;)

2# You see correctly. It's a modded Immortal, downloaded from this site. ;)

I just noticed, that the B29Large.pcx have wrong background colour index (255) which makes it transparent, and thus MAGENTA in the civilopedia. Here are the new ones ;)

The same problem is also atleast in the Me-110's, Bristol Beaufighter, He-111 bomber and Turtleship. And propably in the Gloster gladiator too... :(

Here is the new pcx-file ;)
