View Full Version : Most competitive game ever

I just got finished with what was probably the most competitive game I've ever played. Normally I create my own map, put myself on a decent sized continent with good terrain and resources, and then it's just build units and conquer without much trouble. But this time for some reason there were three other civs who were significant contenders. I usually play with a lot of civs, which makes them small and weak since they all have to share the land, but this time three of them really spread out nicely. Of course, since I was the most powerful the others hated me, so I was at war with most of them all the time, and they were actually all strong. Because of that, it took way too long to destroy the first one, and then by the time I had wiped out the second one the third was way ahead of me in technology and was leading in the space race. Luckily after I defeated rival #2 I was able to send all the tanks from that assault against #3 and I captured their capital and destroyed their spaceship before they could beat me. This was probably the closest I've ever come to losing, though, since I usually control things to my advantage. It was really intense though and I think I'll try to design things in this manner in the future. Perhaps fewer civs on a large map would be very difficult. Incidentally, this game took me almost 28 hours, which is a lot more than it usually takes. I also had 16 armies by the end, so you can see how much fighting I had to do. It was a pretty great game, and my mouse hand is still recovering.

If this was the most competitive as you say, maybe it is an idea to try a random map for a change. There is no shame in losing, as long as you learn and get better. Creating a nice environment before you actually start may assure you of victory, but you will never learn from it.

If you're looking for a competitive game, this is probably not the best way to find it. ;) Those interested in hearing about a truly "competitive" game vis a vis the AI civs might be interested in reading about my latest Always War (http://www.kalikokottage.com/civ3/sullla/Epic27.html) game. :)
