I was wondering what search engine all of you use. Do you have a favorite that you highly recommend to others? Do you like certain features with certain engines?

I always use Google, and it is PC Magazine's Editor's Choice. I especially like its image search feature.

Of course Google.
I didn't even know that there are so many of them.

I use Google the most often.

I tried using alltheweb and it did give me better results, but didn't check the spelling in my search. So it's back to Google.

Well, Google's the most popular, as I expected, but I didn't know it was going to be such a landslide... I was sure that there might be at least a few Yahoo, AlltheWeb, and AOL users...

Well, used most often. All of us might have used Alltheweb, or Yahoo, or AOL once in a while, but never all the time...

Well, the poll is in a way it has to give these results. Maybe a multiple-choice one might have been better. :mischief:

Usually Google, more than sometimes Yahoo, escpecially because I want directory hits first there and rarely a German one.

I started with Webcrawler, then Excite, Lycos and Yahoo. After Yahoo did not feature the "Search More: Google Excite ..." links at the end of the page, I completely turned to Google. :yeah:

Oh, and of course I pretty often use the search engines on Astalavista. :mischief:
:D

There. . . did it. Voted for Yahoo. I use the Yahoo Companion, and it has the search thingy right there on top of explorer. Sometimes I use google when using NC, but for the most part, yahoo. I think they go through google, as I get a bunch of the same results. . .

Yahoo is not powered by Google anymore, IIRC. I think it was powered by Overture a while ago, then Inktomi. I'm not exactly sure, though...Originally posted by Lucky

I like Google, they have special search-bars, and a googe-labs page with some real cool things, maybe all you google users should check it out!

I don't know the URL, but type Google Labs into the google search engine and it'll appear in the list.

Google wasn't around forever, while I've used Yahoo for many years. However, Yahoo really IS powered by Google, and they produce the same search results.

Still... I use Yahoo more, because it's a habit. You know, I've been typing that address whenever I need to find something for the last 7 years, so...

I started with altavista when I first went online and also Yahoo. Then I used Lycos quite often. Since 4 or 5 years it's only Google for me though...

Years ago, Google was recommended by the Wall Street Journal. I've been hooked ever since. It's even my homepage. How sad. ;-)

Currently Google is definitely my favorite search engine. Some years ago (in the pre-Google era) I used to use AskJeeves a lot, but then they decided to change the way it works. Can't remember exactly what it was but it was in the same period as Google was starting so I gave that a try and was convinced immediately:D

Likewise, but i turned to google when i got more "comfortable" with the internet. It's also alot easier to type in the address bar than any other search engine (thats the reason i use it) :)

Nope, still powered by Google. I use Yahoo for regular searches, but Google for that nice image thingy.

Well, I have so failed. Rare but it happens...

When that happens, I go to The MetaMonk (http://www.metamonk.de)

It's not a search engine in itself, but it lets you use many search engines with the same search pattern. It's also multilingual.

Dead handy (if a pain to cut and paste from - maybe I should work out how to do this more easily).
